Hello anyone ?,
can you please tell me what a Game Launch Error 1 is and what might be bringing this problem about ?
Chronology of events are below :

Platform Win XP - 64 Home
Nvidia 8800 GTS recent driver

Silent Hunter 5 I have installed this game twice now :

1/ Installed Game.
2/ At the end of the installation the installer asked for my temp drive to continue installation, seemed odd. I clicked OK. My temp drive is F:/Temp
and the file name looked like an uninstaller folder name in the request to be OKed.
The platform was accepted as compatible for game execution in all respects.

3/ Aside from this, the installer seemed to work OK.
I then started the game - the autopatch indicated that a 285 byte file was found - I clicked YES to allow the install.

4/ After several moments an installer started, during this time an error message was issued : Ubisoft Game lancher(sic) Game Load Error : 1

5/The installer continued and indicated the the game would be updated from V1.00.000 to V1.0.1. To continue click next - which I did.

6/The installer and game then disappears from the system - there are no error or termination messages.

7/Restarting the game without accepting the autopatch also results in the Game Launch Error : 1 crash.

I'm Running Silent Hunter 4 without trouble on this very same machine.

Thanks,
JH

Thanks gents,
I found that the error was because of the temp folder had filled and had no more space on the drive -- I moved it from F: to C: and re installed the game. This worked. This particular problem was not related to steam or any other vendor, just hardware space.
Thanks all the same for your help.
