I found that by setting priority to realtime, I have smoothed out my frame rates a bit, with less stuttering now.
Here's how to adjust it. After launching SH5, press control/alt delete buttons on your keyboard. This minimizes the game. Now click on the Processes tab, and look for SH5. Right click on it and set Set Priority to realtime.
You will need to repeat these steps each time you start SH5. Hope this helps all of you out there who are getting poor frame rates. :arrgh!:

Didn't help with the mouse lag for me. I think it also introduced some kind of sound stuttering :-? it cuts out every 5-10 seconds or so..
Go to your SH5 shortcut...
Open its properties.
on the target line add this before the entry that is there....
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c start /realtime ""
Should now look like this. (at work dont have the exact path)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c start /realtime "" "C:\Ubisoft\Sh5\Sh5.exe"
must have the "" after realtime and a space before the next set of quote for this to work, but it will always start SH5 in realtime mode.

wow, setting it to realtime freaked my pc out but high worked well
IT GOT RID OF THE EXPLOSION ISSUES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still testing but thanks!
If you want to do it via shortcut to High just add that to the target instead of Realtime

will this work the same way with xp 64bit?
I think it made the game smoother .. less mouse lag too. I couldn't set "realtime', it let me set "high" only, still good trick when needed I guess
Vista Ultimate 64-bit here, 8GB RAM, 8800GTX, C2D 2.4GHz

I went to the icon shortcut on my desktop clicked it and then properties. I found the target line but it won't let me edit it at all?
Suggestions?

Actually, the exact shortcut path would be (with quotes):
"C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\sh5.exe" /c start /realtime "" "C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\Sh5.exe"
Thanks for the tip, emtguf. :sunny:

Are you guys running a "DRM free" version? The target line for the shortcut on my desktop is:
"C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\Support\GameUpdater\gu.exe"

Perhaps, but that cannot be talked about here. :dead:
worked for me too!
Thanks! :D
Edit: make a shortcut on your desktop to sh5.exe from the game's folder

didn't work for me ...
my sluggishness/stutter on outside views seems heavy related to sea state ...
it seems it could be related to the "spray" which seems to cause a lag/juddering effect ..

My target line says this
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Silent Hunter V\sh5.exe"
Where would I put the c/ start/realtime" "" "
This is what I wrote
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Silent Hunter V\sh5.exe"/c start/realtime "" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Silent Hunter V\sh5.exe"
It says invalid path?
Any suggestions?

Hmmmm... you must be runnin vista or 7
I'm still using xp although I just recently bought a copy of 7 and another hdd so gonna set it up this weekend. Unfortunately that means I have little experience with vista or 7.
This is a copy/paste of mine:
"F:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\sh5.exe" /c start /realtime "" "F:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\sh5.exe"
As you can see I have installed on my F drive; you'll need to change yours accordingly.

Made another shortcut manually. Noticed definite improvement. Explosions and bow wakes now run smooth! :salute:
I think we should sticky this one.
You dont have to run it with the game updater path.
You can run straight to the SH5.exe but will have to runt he updater whenever you want to patch.
Also when I posted the link earlier I was at work and guessing the path mine actually loads the Gameupdater on my shortcut.

Does this shortcut also work with the Steam Version?
By doing this, it tells me it can only switch to HIGH and then my system went into a black screen crash, and i had to switch PC off and on again.
Any ideas?
Just built a new PC this weekend. Running SH5 smoothly all frame rates above 50 in all views.

Settings maxed
Shadows maxed
AA slider in the middle

you tease us!! :-)
Noticed a slight improvement with this. I do however still suffer very low FPS inside the boat. Especially just forward of the control room, outside the sonar and radio station. The game slows to an absolute crawl when I try to move past that section. I have no problems when looking through the scope at large convoys, during explosions or when being on the bridge. Only when moving around inside, especially at that specific location. I've set shadows, AA to lowest settings, only have 3D ship damage ticked, but no dice.

Me too, that exact location is by far the most problematic.

I have noticed a performance problem in the aft torpedo room and engine room area. Other areas of the boat and outside on the bridge have no problem, but when I move to the aft of the interior, the graphics stutter pretty badly. Anyone else run into this and have a solution? I have tried disabling 2 of my 3 cores, but then sound stutters.

Just use antilag , available in the download section .

Wow that smooths things out a treat. was getting 15-60 frames a second in a kind of rythmic stutter. limited to 35fps, still flicks down to 15fps sometimes but overall much much smoother thankyou for posting the link Sober I had missed that one somehow.
Regards,
Sam.
I've only had lag/stutters with one historical mission.... The one in the Med. Aircraft shooting, shooting from German surface vessels and my flak guns, plus the aircraft blowing up from flak. No other stutters or lag at any other time.... just this once. Also no CTDs running SH5, except for a lost internet connection.
I'm still running XP Home but on a new computer.
Intel 2.8 i5 Quadcore with H-50 water cooling. And H-50 or H-70 is the only way to go for CPU cooling. IMO
Zotac 8800GT 1GB GFX card
2/2GB sticks of Matched DDR3 RAM.. with only 3GB being used with XP
Seagate 1TB SATA 2.0 HDD - SH5 installed in Program Files on C drive.
So I tried this and it works for me too. Problem is I can't get it to stick by changing the Target: line as described. Someone tell me what I'm doing wrong here.
I have the game installed on a separate harddrive (not my C drive)
E:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\sh5.exe
The text I put on the target line in the shortcut looks like this: "E:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\sh5.exe" /c start /realtime "" "E:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\sh5.exe"
Is this correct? It doesn't seem to stick and I have to alt-tab out to change it.
