View Full Version : DRM down or Crash

I have been experiencing my game just closing. I would assume it is crashing but it closes so seamlessly, like I hit exit to windows. I am use to a CTD having some in game noticeable chugs and then a black screen for a sec or two, with the computer chugging, then to desktop.

Was wondering if that is the DRM server going down/connection issues versus my computer/game actually messing up.

I'm sorry but I have absolutely no problem with the pirates - even though they are technically responsible for preventing me from playing legally right now.

Why?
Because Ubisoft started it!
Think of it as an exercise in wolfpack tactics:

The unsinkable, impregnable battleship DRM UBISOFT set sail into the English Channel with the clear message that it would and could take on all challengers.
The pirate wolfpack accepted that challenge and has unleashed a torpedo barrage unlike anything DRM UBISOFT was built to withstand.
Now chalk it up to what you will - ignorance, arrogance, negligence, or whatever- but now it's up to the crew of the DRM UBISOFT to put up or shut uo.
And considering her 30 degree list and fires spreading towards the secondary magazines... and this point it's not looking good. But they still have their engines, so maybe they can limp away and live to fight another day...

At this point, the only people who are to blame for the state of the DRM UBISOFT are the people who sent her to sea. And now the pirates have given us ammo to overload Ubisoft customer service hotlines with. We can't play the game we paid for! Raise hell!

I had that happen 4 times yesterday. This was during the DRM outage times and I had previously and later on had again, the "The internet connection experiences problems" error.

However it was also all in the same spot doing the same thing. Plymouth Harbor engaging the Ark Royal, which apparently is part of the Blockade Germany thing.

So, either it was a bug with DRM just killing the client, or a big with the campaign missions when I killed a key ship before I'd been given the mission. Or something totally unrelated.

What were you doing when you crashed? Most of the times for me i was returning to the sub (F4 button) or doing something with the attack scope screen.

Thanks

3 times I was in the attack periscope (one time in an online game with a perfect shot at a DD making a run at another sub. Right before I fired, bam it was gone. I almost cried)

1 time in the UZO

1 time I think just on the bridge, possibly with the nav map up I do not remember.

This is depressing.

Tired of earthquake related activities, I dropped by to see what's happening with you, chaps.

Caramba! Nothing but DRM tales of woe. SH5 with DRM is a disaster comparable to the Chilean earthquake.

Hang on to your wallets as the Ubi ship sinks in the pool of garbage it has created.

More info. It keeps crashing more and more. Is anyone else experiencing this? Does the game tell you when you are disconnected from the server? If it's on my end is there anything I can do? It's frustrating not being able to get through a game.

Why blame them, why not blame UBI's implementation of DRM. :hmmm:

Isn't there a way to check if you have a connection, like pinging their server?

I don't know. When it happens its just gone. It wasn't happening last week, at least one once or twice over tons of hours of play time. How it happens once an hour.

Interesting, I have something similiar goin on.

Now in September 1940, I just sank the Hood, which was part of a Convoy, and return home. Luckily I saved beforehand.

However, everytime while returning home the games gets a CTD whenever I approach Lorient closer then 500 miles. No matter what direction I come in. Return to game, load the save, attempt again..same result. Start the game again, load an earlier save and still, closing Lorient it crashes.

It's more then odd.

Seems to me that Ubisoft have really shot themselves in the foot with this crappy DRM.

Based on the reports i've read, loads of people are having issues playing ACII and SHV because the servers are suffering from DOS attacks.

I'd say either Ubisoft change their ways FAST, or they are going to continue down the very slippery slope they now find themselves on to ruination.

Games that I fervently had my heart set on playing, i'm not so sure i'll buy now as all the issues that WE saw coming with this DRM have occured.

Its your choice Ubisoft.

I have had the same problem, not often, maybe 4 times since I bought the game, it will suddenly stop with no warning and dump you back to deskstop. However, I never had any problems immediately re-logging on and restarting the game. As a precaution, I have also taken the habit of saving my games often.

I often take screenshots and ctrl+alt+delete out of the game to view and save the shot and go back into the game. I thought this was the cause of the sudden end.

I am now wondering if this is caused by a loss of connection to the server which causes you to be booted out back to desktop.

Same thing except it happens all the time now. Driving me nuts when because it always happens right when you are really getting into the game. Better yet RIGHT AFTER A KILL. Makes you want to cry. I should probably just save a lot but I would really like to know the cause.

Only reason I am thinking DRM is to blame as I had few crashes like this until everyone started having their problems logging on. I log on fine but the CTD make it almost unplayable.

There does not appear to be any issue with the servers right now. Any way you can doublecheck if there is a problem with your internet connection? Are you on a wireless network or connected by cable?

Ziggy

Connected to cable. I don't get disconnected from anything else and my modem is fine. If it's my computer I must find the problem! I haven't been playing much lately because of this problem so perhaps it is fine now. Have class today so not likely to test it.

I'm just guessing as well, it might also turn out to be a server issue.

I've had one CTD on Monday, and after it happened I couldn't restart the game - the server was temporarily down. I came here to see others had just made a post about the same event.

So that may have been related to the DRM. Not had any connection problems since, and no CTDs either.

Worked fine today. I am going to blame it on DRM.

apparently some hackers think they're clever. :nope:

Or Ubi blamed hackers because they knew people would accept it as a handwave explanation?

They do have every motivation to lie about it if the problem is actually with their servers and employees. Lying is hardly, er... uncommon... in the business world. It's even less uncommon in the public relations world...
