Aircraft carrier Mission

Cant find any aircraft carrier needed to finish one the first 3 missions, where i have to patrol?

Bienvenido naights! I have found traffic near the northern patrol line, but haven't had any luck finding a carrier either.

short version: lurk just south of plymouth. HMS Ark Royal should turn up soon enough. :yeah:

I found the carrier after about 2 weeks of searching.....

And of course I had no torpedos at the time. It will be in a ring of destroyers, 5 of them I believe with the carrier in the middle.. So if you see a patern outside the normal 4 engine sigs, its most likely the carrier group.

If you press the Blocade of Germany main mission icon (the iron cross), then the map will show the Northern Patrol line, between Scotland and Iceland, and a Carrier Patrol Area, south of Ireland, at the Western Approaches. :yeah:

I found ark royal on the 27th of feb in the south west corner of the patrol circle guarded by 5 destroyers. I launched 4 torpedoes at aprox 8meters depth and she was sunk. The annoying part was that a few days later ark royal was in plymoth!!!??? What the ****!!! I´m getting really ****ing frustrated with sh5. Besides, when i sank ark royal the destroyers didn´t even react... What´s wrong with the AI??? Is sh5 supposed to be a game for children like a shot em up game??

When i reached the carrier objective BDU told me break off the objective and reposition to the newly specified area. Only the map shows no new position and the message doesnt either.

carrier on the other hand is not

it is in plymouth, but it doesn't count if you sink it there it has to be on patrol


I waited outside plynouth saw it, got depth charged by 7 destroyers, 5 carrier escort, 2 arrived from the port cutting off escape, so then I had to start again :shifty:

but from what I have read is that she goes from SE of Plymouth to SSW in carrier patrol area (so basically a diagonal from plymouth down to lower left carrier patrol area)

if you spot a lone aircraft out at sea it can only be from an aircraft carrier 75% of the time lone aircraft= carrier, 2 aircraft= land based

so basically follow the planes they will lead you in the direction of the carrier


I have sunk her now, plot a diagonal line from Plymouth to the bottom left of the carrier patrol area, that is roughly the route she takes, just patrol up and down that line and you will find her eventually

I went thru the same thing looking for the Arc Royal. Tried reverse course of the lone Swordfish figuring it came from a carrier but no luck. Sat in one spot in the sw area hoping BDU would send a contact report but no luck there. Finally I clicked on Plymouth harbor and there she was in-port. Went in sank her and a bunch of escorts, and left. Did this 3 times and no credit for the mission. Lesson leaned... this is a bugger of a mission. :yep: You have to be one lucky sub to find her out in the carrier patrol area. :yep:

I finally gave up and installed OHII and started a new campaign... Happy Times. :smug: Now I am happy. :D LOL

question how many missions need to be completed to 'pass' the campaign?

All that they throw at you. ;) I believe Scapa Flow will be one also to sink a Balttleship.

I estimated that she could be found on a diagonal, from just SE of Portsmouth to bottom right end of carrier patrol line, I used the plotting tools and drew a line, she was almost dead on my estimation

Where she sunk (the grid is labelled degrees North and degrees left, whatever it is labelled in if you go to 7, 49 you will find her, roughly between Lands End and Brest but a bit out to sea)

she was next to a large merchant convoy, I was under water and let the destroyers detecting me pass over, then I went to peri depth and fired a salvo of four torpedoes, then crash dive and reverse

I didn't use the target computer because I don't know how and when it does seem to work it misses anyway

I have sunk the Aircraft carrier as part of the "sink 5 AMC's and one aircraft carrier".

The problem is that my game stops working when I try to leave the area.

After sinking the aircraft carrier I immediately saved the game(so I would not have to wait for the ship to come along again) then resumed the game,thinking that that may work,but it didnt.

Can someone please help me with this,its getting really annoying.
