Hi. Check Six (Steve) reporting for duty. I am into aircraft as the nickname implies (Vice President of Australian Society of WW1 Aero Historians), and got into subs and ASW working as a civilian for the Royal Australian Navy. I was an Inspector of Naval Ordnance (supervised assembly and disassembly of lightweight ship and air launched anti-submarine weapons [Mk 44 and Mk 46] and heavyweight sub launched Mk 48 torpedos), then a weapons assessor for the Trials and Assessing Unit, assessing ASW practice exercises.

How do operate the radio and radar and hydrophone? I can make the devices highlighted, but can't seem to operate devices. Left clicking on them just makes them highlighted, right clicking makes me move around the vessel again.

Also, how does the escort into harbour work? I went ot the radio operator's post, and waited for my XO to report seeing an escort, but was unable to get the "request escort" message when I spoke to him, just small talk.

I have more questions, but I'll start another thread for those.

Check Six out.

Welcome aboard Check Six! To select a mission, look around the UK and there should be some black circles with crosses on. There is one to the East of the UK, one to the NW and one to the SE. Click on it and then select Request Mission and that will be your assigned patrol area. As for not being able to dock, I had that problem - you can be re-assigned to a new home port whilst out on patrol, so you won'tbe able to dock at where you left off (Kiel). Look on the Map for the large blue home port icon, I think by default you are based at Wilhelmshaven for the end of the first proper (non training) mission.

EDIT: Here is a walkthrough for the first part, which you may find useful: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1289938&postcount=4

Thanks Nisgeis, but I edited my post after reading the answer in another thread. I should have read all posts before asking. That's what I thought I'd have to do.

The radar, although it appears installed in the boat, it isn't actually installed until it is available and you request it as an upgrade - it's not available at the start. It was the same way in SH4 and caused much confusion. Hydrophone, I'm not sure, but I think it got broken in the latest patch and Requesting and escort - no idea!

Welcome aboard!!... S!

With the hydrophone...... to rotate it you need you highlight it so sit at the station... then use your mouse wheel to turn the hydrophone head.... it is wrong in the manual.... they have updated the manual apparently on the website... :DL

Hmm...tried that but to no avail. I understand now why the radar won't work, though I only tried it in home port, I won't try it out in open waters away from protection. I suppose I just need to upgrade it after some successes and mission completions.

Nisgeis, the hydrophone not working is not due to a patch (or is it?). I haven't MANUALLY added any patches, though on my initial loading of the sim, it took a while to connect to Ubisoft's server and download patches there (GRR!). I would have thought if they introduced a patch that screwed up the operation of anything, they'd have re-patched it, but every time I subsequently ran the sim, it just briefly looked for any patches, but downloaded nothing (well, nothing large anyway).

I'm still at a loss about requesting an escort, I just drive in to port manually myself anyway, but I guess you might save some time and possible collisions with insane picket ships darting back and forth across the inlet.

Thanks anyway gents.

Happy hunting

The mouse cursor must be in the highlighted area too before the scroll works. And page up/down should work too?
