Hello folks,

I play on 100% realism (no map updates, etc.). And I was wondering if anyone could post a short tutorial on manual targeting.

How do you calculate target speed?

Rockin Robbins has a thread stickied in the SH4 forum..... It's called "subskippers bag of tricks" or something close........He includes several narrated videos in real time which is exactly what you are asking for......
Contact speed is the number of yard traveled in 3 minutes/100........15000yds traveled in 3 minutes = 15kts.
For the metric croud it's a little different.........They may chime in on this...........

I think the targeting interface is sufficiently different for each version of SH that a specific example for SH5 is highly desirable.

I'm assuming that "manual targeting" includes the use of in-game tools, like the stadimeter, which are meant to approximate an authentic experience.

It should be 3 minutes and 15 seconds for the metric crowd. Atleast that's what I've measured with as long as I can remember and I haven't missed a ship yet (atleast not by faulty speed calculations).
