View Full Version : teleport end-game = death?

So I've noticed since I installed GWX3 that if I end mission while on patrol it now says "abandon career" instead of "Return to Base", and if you do it and exit the game, when you come back into the game instead of being in base you are listed as "dead". But in fact you can load the "dead" saved game and while it says "you are dead" (or something like that), in fact you are back in base as you expected.

Is this something the GWX crew did to discourage teleporting home at the end of missions?

:hmmm:

I've always been able to do a Save & Exit and get Return To Base.

IIRC if you try to exit the patrol while submerged it tells you that you can't return to base while submerged, and then you either have to continue or else abandon the mission/career you're playing. Otherwise I can't remember being given only the options of Continue or Abandon when my boat's still good and I haven't already been KIA.

After you hit Esc, are you choosing Exit or Save & Exit? It's possible, I guess, that if you don't hit Save & Exit, the game thinks you are abandoning the career because you're not saving at that point. The game does an autosave at the beginning and end of every patrol, and I'm not sure it matters how the patrol ends. Might be why there's a save there that says you're dead, if the game equates Abandon Career with KIA and autosaves at the end of the patrol where you "died."

Not save and exit, and not while submerged.

I'm talking about being on a mission, running out of torpedoes, hitting escape, and at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen it used to say "Return to base".

Now it says, "Abandon career", and otherwise as I posted above.

Did you sink any hospital ships? Or any neutral or freindly shiping? If you did what you are seeing is the GWX simulation of the BDU killing you for lack of fallowing the regulations of war that govern the U-boat service. Doing any of the above mentiond, particualarly sinking a hospital ship, gives you negitive renown and if you have too much negitive renown you get offed by your government. That would very well explain what you are seeing in game.

I noticed that the 'Return to base' disappeared when I took the step to 100% realism. Don't know which setting did it, cause I did a whole bunch on the same time.
Since that, I've got to sail close to the base and choose 'Dock at XXX'.

Once you went 100% Realism, you gave up your Teleportic Abilities.
You'll have to drive it to within 25 KM of port, then hit Escape.

Ah, thanks guys, totally forgot about that. But it was mentioned in another thread and confirmed. That would be it then.

Well that would be it then. Is this stock SHIII or a GWX addition?

Both.
I think they call that "hardcoded".
