View Full Version : SH3 and LCD monitors - slight shimmering in areas

As some of you may know I recently bought a new 20" widescreen LCD monitor rated at 5ms.Let me just say at this point that the picture quality is excellent and the viewing area is very generous.Yet,sometimes, and I mean sometimes I can see a VERY faint shimmering effect mainly in low light conditions, and it tends to be more visible when looking towards the lower third of the screen, towards the floor etc,and also when on the nav map.In daylight or when the white lighting comes on inside the sub this effect is not seen.
Personally I am thinking it may be an incorrect refresh setting (LCDs dont really use refresh rates, its normally for CRTs),which is set at 60hz and this is the recommended value for my monitor. Also it may be interesting to note that my monitor and AGP card are connected via an analogue connection and not DVI,sadly my monitor doesnt support DVI setups
Has anyone any experience of this?

I've noticed the shimmering all but disappears after a while, maybe the monitor needs a sort of 'burn in' time, after all it IS still new :yep:
