Hey I just downloaded this mod a couple of days ago and I have to say it is kicking my butt. I mean I went from going from just the game fixes only mod to this so I knew it would be hard but still. I just figured instead of just losing over and over again I would ask some questions here.

1. Any advice on aiming in this game , the lack map contacts and sonar lines are screwing me up and I can't use my normal method of constant bearing attack.

2. I got sent on a patrol around the Philippines to engage merchant shipping and could not find one ship. So how big is the area I can patrol and get credited for a kill and any tricks to find merchants or ships when they show up on the make and have no course.

3. The crew looks a little crowed to me and not have a deck gun crew or AA crew at first was a little annoying but I moved some crew and got people there. But during a patrol the AA crew is so low now I can't see it under the dials . So if he gets injured or needs to be moved how can I ? Also I even have trouble getting the deck gun to fire sometimes.

Any help or tips will be greatly appreciated.

If you haven't studied the manual yet, I highly recommend that you do so.

It comes included with the mod, and in case you can't find it here is a direct link for DL: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=429

In there you will find all the answers about crew management, Hogan's Ally etc...

What version of the RFB are you running? The latest version with the patch brings back map contacts.

As for the merchants - on the beginning of each patrol when you're assigned an area to patrol you are also given a radius in which to conduct your patrol. Usually it is 100NM, but it can often go to 200NM from the designated patrol area. I suggest that once you start the patrol - draw a circle around the mission marker so you can accurately plot the search pattern inside it.

Are you using RFB as stand alone or in combination with the RSRDC? In both occasions merchants follow historical routes and there is where you should plot your search patterns in order to find them. Sometimes you will be unlucky and will have hard time finding targets. But this is how it was in real life. Not all skippers were successful. ;)

I had the picture with historical merchant routes somewhere but I can't locate it now. I am sure someone will post it for you. :)

I am running the latest version of RFB and the patch but I think it was updated so I will have to update the patch again anyway. As for my question on map contacts it was basically asking for advice considering how different it is to stock on how to aim now or create a plot, is the only way through sonar now or guessing?

As for the merchants I was wondering how big the patrol plot was and I thought it was 100 nm and in that type of a circle I couldn't find anything so I will see about 200 nm and try again. Also a picture of historical routes would be helpful if anyone out there could link me to it :D.

The latest update fixes the deaf sonar operator. On top of that I recommend that you install Hitman's fog fix. It can be located in the RFB thread. If you can't find it, let me know.

As for the map contacts - they aren't different from stock apart from IIRC they don't show that line which shows their heading. You need to manually obtain the heading by several range observations, or if you're using map contacts on - by placing few markers on their icon on the map and at the same time timing the speed. After you got the time (I usually take two measurements, one after 3 minutes and another after 5 minutes) and distance travelled just draw the line over the nomograph on the right and read the speed in knots. :)

Simple as that. :)

If you have RSRDC or RFB, convoys can be found on these tracks :D.
