Apparently turning off shadows makes a huge difference - I read it posted here:

Try that and see if it helps.

I'm using a quad Xeon class workstation machine with a GTX295. The game ran great with 196.75 (better inside the sub with shadows off) but I didn't feel like setting my card on fire with NVidia's defective drivers. :P
Downgraded to 196.21 and had horrible stuttering performance. Upgraded back to 196.34b and everything was good again.

I run it on lowest details- just to try - so no AA and no shadows already.
So you suggest that it´s a driver problem ? Hmmm...that´s sad cause I ave 9600 GT M /laptop/ and there are no newer drivers that 195.62 - so I guess that´s my problem then...too sad .

Maybe the 9600gt isnt powerful enough to play it without stutters ?

but why is it powerful enaugh to play it with 40 FPS ?
I mean we seem to confuse two problems here - low fps and stutters - strange and ugly jumping of camera.
When I pause the game - and move my camera around - it stutters - and there is defenately no FPS problem in that time.
Plus when I increase time compression to 4times - guess what - the stuttering disappears or at least get less significant.

Wait and see if a fix turns up in an official patch is all i can say then .

How much dedicated video RAM does that card have ?
I've got graphics issues too, my card (ATI Radeon X800XT 256MB) won't support shader 3.0 so the game runs but with a totally screwed up screen, but if you look close enough you can just make out the sub interior and there's no stuttering or mouse lag so I'm gonna source a new card and see if it works then.
I've never had issues with other games before this one so I'm guessing it's just a card problem.
My specs :- Asus m/b 3.4ghz, 4gig ram, win XP, it's actually a dell XPS system but 6 years old. What card would you guy's recommend?

It sounds to me like a texture loading problem (slight pause as textures are swapped in and out of card memory), how much memory does your graphics card have? A couple of things you can try, first defrag the hard disk, second if you have vista or win7 buy a decent usb flashdrive, and use ready boost, it acts as cache memory for commonly used files. Play sh5 a few times and it will cache all its graphics files making access to them much faster than loading them from the hard drive. Even with 1 gig graphics memory and 4 gig system I still use ready boost, it helps smooth out a number of loading hiccups, including start up.
You should note it does shorten the life of the memstick but I have been using my current one for more than 8 months and it is fine.

In sh4 and 3 you solve stuttering this way:
- Turn Vertical Sync ON
- In the profile of the game in the nvidia control panel Turn OFF:
"Threaded optimization"

no the stutters are not video card related otherwise it would be sucky frame rates
18fps wait wait 18fps..... wait 18fps..... and so on
More likely calls for data or some other 'fetch' issue.
I have also tried lowering all the graphic settings to a bare minimum and still get the stutters.
Which is strange because when I first installed the game it ran fine, just recently this started.
I remember getting rid of the CFS 3 stuttering by increasing the resolution. Also some games actually ran smoother the higher I set my driver settings (Anisotropic, Antialiasing) so go figure.

Defragmented, tried to fiddle a little bit with virtual memory file, vert sync ON , other graphic settings low , high, middle you name it I tried it. Nothing.
Stutters. Bad. No DRM, graphic issues will stop me playing. And I don´t want to !! I like the TDC so much :wah:
Try this with your driver settings; Vsync Force off and set Maxi pre-rendered frames to 1 (default is 3 with mine). I remember that helping me with Oblivion.
