View Full Version : Dumb DDs ?
Ok... as far as I'm concerned
there is a "slight" problem for the DDs maybe. I'm playing the campaign in medium difficulty. In my last patrol I decided to attack military ships to clear my path home.
I found on south west of England a little task force of 4 enemy war ships.... aimed and shot to hit. One was directly hit and sank immediatly... the other ones.... well they just ignored the attack and went their way without searching or anything.
:stare:
Also, when DDs tried to search for me after a convoy attack, I heard no pings at all, is that normal ?
EDIT
I am abituated with GWX where a destroyer starts pinging and when this happens your quiet dead meat if in shallow waters.

Yup, DDs are dumb.
Like you said, DDs are completely ignoring you when half of the convois ships are burning.
I made a mission in the editor where a Fletcher DD with the highest difficulty setting "Elite" and late war equipment is approaching my sub which is at periscope depth.
I went ahead flank and fully extended both periscopes. He did only notice me when I was crossing his bow not more than 200m away.
It was so rediculously easy to shake him off again. I dove to 50m and kept going at half speed - no silent running enabled. I heard him only ping me once. Within two minutes he lost contact.
On the second test run I passed him very closely with ahead flank -> he didn't notice me. When I shot a torpedo at him (that only slightly missed), he finally turned and searched for me. I managed to sink him pretty easiliy while he was circling cluelessly around my position. Some depth charges (the ones that he can shoot from both sides) were pretty close, but it looked like he didn't know my exact position because most of them were "aimed" only in my general direction (I always stayed at periscope depth!).
Been reading this a good few times now, if you can’t trust the game what’s the point. Are you sinking ships due to being a sly fox captain or because they are dead with no Ai.
This game gets more and more shocking. “Wow looks fantastic” is all you read and thats all good and well when its nuts and bolts work but this version reads like total mess
So far (April 1940, 500,000+ tons sunk) escorts have provided zero challenge to me when submerged. While they can direct rather nasty fire your way when they catch you on the surface, once you dive they're about as effective for ASuW as a squirrel with a toothpick.
:nope:

Sank 1 of them with G7e, the others gave chase. :hmmm:
Got killed once and chased plenty of times. Nothing wrong as far as I'm concerned. :-?
Getting acquired on active sonar in waters barely deep enough to go to PD tends to ruin your day. :yep:
