View Full Version : The game is getting better with time

After several attempts at this game I finally came to grips with it and had a good run. It took some time to understand how they wanted to do things but all-in-all the is starting to grow on me.

The most impressive thing I can still say is the environment, including the sea. With the larger waves and the boat appears to be tracking them better, the immersion seems twice the factor of SH4.

Having to get my butt down the hatch before diving is going to take some time to get use to, but this is so cool compared to the old way of pressing a button and poof!

Just getting this UI down so cant wait to practice some TDC. Great game Dev's!

!

:yep: Yes, a neat feature.

With the new UI mod, and a few others plus having the radio and gramophone working it is becoming a little easier to work with now.

I have to admit, the whole Point of View aspect of this title, is the only reason i picked the box off the shelf. ( I didn't buy it, but i did pick it out. :haha: )

I acutally like having to get my ass down the hatch when ordering a crash dive. :O:

It only took 8 years to fix SH3, so why wait. Really, its a major jump and I can see some real leaps and bounds.

Now if I can only remember how to disable the UBI save game thing. Help!

SH3 is still not bug free.... but its playable, and enjoyable. (submerged saves, saves near ports etc.) and even more playable and enjoyable with supermods. But its not bug free. If SH5 gets too SH3 amount of bugs then ill def buy it. but the hard coded stuff cant be modded. so Hopefully most bugs are removed by Ubi before they stop surporting SH5.
But im not going to hold my breath... SH4 is still bug-tastic :nope:

Hopefully SH5 is open ended enough to fix what was previously unfixable.

>>SH4 is still bug-tastic

Yeah i can't argue against that, but ya gotta admit, all the modders who worked on it did a bang up job on making that game playable, dare i say.. enjoyable?

... and then donate the rest of the value difference to Subsim.com, thanking the community for the released mods. :salute:
20€ max for Ubi (with promo)... today's retail price is 49.99€... that means 29.99€ for Subsim. :yep:

If Steam puts it soon on a weekend deal, that's what I'll do... although for me there's another important "IF" to be resolved (DRM), but enough of that, that's another issue.

Ducimus created a good number of those mods.

I agree, have had several enjoyable nights now, have the keyboard mod and the dials mod. Yes having to go around the sub is immersive. I Like having an XO. The graphics are great. I have my music moved over now. Just passed 100000 tons sunk.

Some just want to turn SH5 into SH3-4. If you like 3-4 then play them. I didn't want another version of the same and the change here I like.

Been playing for roughly a week now and its really grown on me. I think the crossover from SHIII to SHV takes roughly that long. Also there is a huge amount of work in the mods forum already (you guys rock:rock:)

These mods make the game easier to use and more enjoyable. To be honest I'm really glad I bought it and loving every minute I play it.

I actually like having to get my ass down the hatch when ordering a crash dive. :O:

Me too! I just want to bark out the order first and then head for the hatch so it would work something like this.

Aircraft spotted, order the dive, the crew leaves the bridge but the sub will not dive until you leave it. As it is now, you lose a few seconds getting down the hatch before you can order the dive. I've encountered aircraft numerous times and have never been able to get her down before it's way too late. :o

EDIT: Maybe it should just dive, and if your late.....

I had that problem too. Now when I know there might be trouble - I hide in the conning tower!

Probably not great for crew moral , but we do dive quicker :DL

I think for SH6, this community could nominate 3 Modders to be put forward to Play-test the hell out of it before release. It could all be done online, so no one has to travel. Neal could hold a Poll and the Community vote from a choice of say 15 guys and the top three get the Gig. What do you think?

I think something has to be done to break the cycle of releasing games as unfinished a state as we've had with this series since the beginning.

It will take 12 months to patch it up? Are you being serious? I'd expect ubi to have given up on it right about now. The poor review and the abysmal drm-handling has probably shot sales dead in the water. I'd put the odds at 2:1 that they are just looking for a fast, preferable no-cash way out of this mess and will be running away from Silent Hunters for ever. The last 33% are reserved for humanity's never failing ability to hope for miracles. To hope that Ubi brass says "guys, this is unacceptable. we must do something to win back the respect and love of our customers. Let us fix this thing! Game and drm!"

Yeah, I think SH5 has so many bugs because only 3 people were testing it in the first place! Releasing a demo to 100 people might get better results.
