Hey folks. Think this is my first post but have been reading these forums for a few months now. Anyhow hello. So now my question.

In SH5 when targeting a ship all I get is unknown ship, merchant ship or warship. Never fully identified as what class and such. Is there a way to identify the ships? I am pretty much stumped on this one. Thank you in advance.

You can use the req manual from the TDC in some cases. Or sink it to see what it was.

You can also bind a key to identify target, but I read that it doesn't work. Not sure, haven't tried myself.

Yes you have to turn the TDC on (click the WO picture). Then click on the ship name link.

A really poorly done and small Rec Manual will pop up. Good luck. ;)

Aslo if your using Auto TDC (not manual) make sure you turn TDC back off, for when you turn it on you go to manual mode.

I kinda like the filters, but wish they still had the front and oblique views and not just side on pictures.

Thanks Guys. I will try it and see how things go. Have been doing the Auto TDC to this point. Thanks again

I don't want to open a new thread for this, so I use the most appropiate topic to ask around if is anybody here who can identify the ship from this image:

I failed to find it in the recon manual and also she had some weird floating issues. Found 2 of these in a large convoy just yesterday in the Artic Convoy campaign... Any idea?

Looks like the Middleton Attack Transport, she is British judging by the "red duster" at her foremast.
She may be running light i.e. unloaded which would account for the height of her freeboard (the height of the ship's deck above the water level). Not sure if that is modelled into the sim though, it may just be a glitch.

So what are you sayin' is .. this ship is a "leftover" from SH3 and somehow "surfaced" in SH5? Now, this is a cool bug :P

No, there was nothing like that in SH4, and certainly not in SH3.

Then, why I see it in SH5? Was added with the patch.. or what? Any idea?

No idea at all. Have you checked the museum for it?

you can use a magnifying glass to note the details of both manual and scope image.. I do this all the time and gradually becoming in less need for tuning to the right ship..

The ship has been there since day one of SH5 I first encountered her in the historic mission which I think is called "The River" and I'm sure there is a recognition manual entry for her.

Guys, sometimes I come across a merchant that is not listed in the recognition manual. In fact, I can't even lock it on periscope or UZO!!
It's a red ship with two big lights on it's masts and is always escorted by a costal vessel...
Any idea?:hmmm:

First, this the SH5 forum. SH3 questions should be asked in the SH3 forum.

Second, this thread is four years old. It would have been better to start a new thread - in the SH3 forum.

Third, what you saw was a coastal Light Ship, a sort of floating lighthouse. They are not in regular SH3, but appear in GWX. They are listed as environmental objects just so you can't shoot them. They always have a tugboat beside them so you know how far away they are.

Hello captains!! hehe, im totally new here! but not in game! hehehe.

First, sorry for my poor english, im spanish hehehe.
- Second, i want to say, SH5 have SEVERAL keybinds unactive and those are REALLY useful! for example for auto Identify targets! even with TCD off!!!!

In your "[game root]/data/Cfg" folder, open "Commands.cfg" with notepad and you will see there are A LOT OF USEFUL things with no keybind.
In this case:

[Cmd343]
Name=WP_Identify_target
Contexts=1
MnID=0x3F130002
StringID=1073
HasDelayedExecution=Yes

This mean, no keybind hehehe, so I edited it with:

[Cmd343]
Name=WP_Identify_target
Contexts=1
Key0=0x51,C,"Q"
MnID=0x3F130002
StringID=1073
HasDelayedExecution=Yes

This will add the Q key for identify the target, the only thing you need, is to AIM the ship (UZO or periscopes) and just press it!, you will see the keel depth is updated and also, if you have TDC on, you will can read the Full identification done.

Another 2 intersting keybinds (I personally love them) are:

[Cmd130]
Name=Get_depth_under_sub_keel
Contexts=1,15
Key0=0x58,,"X"
MnID=0x3F250005

And

[Cmd487]
Name=Estimate_range_to_contact
Contexts=1
Key0=0x5A,,"Z"
MnID=0x3F280002
HasDelayedExecution=Yes

This last "Z" key... just aiming with Periscope or Binoculars (red cross) will give you an exact distance to that target. IMPORTANT: ONLY accurate if TDC IS OFF!!!!!! no idea why...

Note: The key itself need the code, for example for "Z" is 0x5A... you can find this values in Windows Character Map if you got it, if not try here (http://www.kbdedit.com/manual/low_level_vk_list.html)

IM LOOKING FOR: in the Identify targets key... i want that full name appearing in the small chat log down/right, but im still missed in how to do that... any idea?

About this... I think is a Troop Armed Merchant but not sure, in SH5 you need to destroy 5 in the German Blockage mission and... some ships appear ONLY in multiplayer mode or Historic missions.

Well... i really love to keep investigating about missed (but existent) features, so I will advise if something interesting hehehehe.

Enjoy! and Merry Xmas to everybody!! :rock::rock::rock:
