Intel core 2 duo, 3g at 3000 mhz
Windows Vista Home 32bit
2x Nvidia Gforce 8600 GTS 258mb in SLI mode
196.21 drivers
3g DDR2
Creative X-FI sound card.

Ok so Im getting less than stellar frame rates even on low settings with shadows off. Gets worse inside the sub especially in sound room and engine room. Noticable choppyness at all times. On the bridge and external views are the smoothest.

Anyone else? And does anyone know a fix?

Cheers

Yes, this is now pretty much a universally-established problem with nvidia cards. Turn the shadows setting slider down to minimum, and you'll see a big improvement.

Hopefully either the next patch can do something, or new nvidia drivers fix this soon.

The minimun/minimorum ( lowest ) graphic card for Silent Hunter 5 is a 8800GT with 512Mb , your 8600GTS is below this minimun , therefore I reccommend to upgrade to 9800GT 8800GT 512Mb

Yeah, but its not all good with ATI either. I have a Core 2 Duo 3,16ghz, 4GB DDR2 and HD5870. Frames are nice with all slider at max but there is often stutters at 100fps (its super smooth when recording with fraps locked at 30 fps for some reason), and the bow spray seems to be running at 10fps in a world of its own. In addition there is some weird flickering on ships. (Not the uboat)

I dont have slow downs inside the sub, though.

I suspect that driver versions is a big deal. I use Catalyst 9.11 with my Radeon 5850 card and it runs great.

Only graphical issue seem to be abit of flickering sometime when using the binoculars, the Uzo or periscope (I don't remember really).

Yeah, I've not really had anything worth mentioning on my 5770. Runs fine, no really serious glitches - although the water spray sprites were always a little wonky in SH. That's just a 'feature' of the engine methinks.

Takk! I will try that driver.

I have a GTX280 and i have the same issue : terrible framerate inside the sub. So, well, his GC can have an influence, but the game crappy optimization is to blame here.

I know not what settings you all are using, but try multisampling instead of supersampling and back off the "AF" anisotropic filtering to no more than "2x". Just try it........
