I got an onboard Realtek 889 audio chip which works perfect with many of my games. Except SH5. System: XP/32 4GB RAM, Core2duo 3Ghz, 9800GTX+.

I have blue screeen crashes when big engagements between naval units take place or large aircraft formations attack, basically when lots of sound is played. I know it's the realtek driver crashing because I ran the debug tools on the dump file XP creates (Reference (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315263)) and it's the audio dll.

I updated my audio drivers but still no go.

If I turn down the Audio Hardware Accelaration to basic, which is one click from none, the game plays but of course without the acceleration, FPS is down to 1-5 !
Also tried turning in-game Sound 3D Channels all the way down, which seems to delay the crash only a few more seconds.

So anybody having audio crashes, any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Hmm, hard to say. Maybe try to use an older (more stable) driver?

Did you check other drivers? For example chipset, motherboard, bios :hmmm:

I upgraded to Windows7 64bit and that fixed all my sound problems.
Don't know what's up with Realtek 889 XP drivers but they constantly crashed the game.

Does this audio chip control onboard sound and audio hdmi properties, too? If so, maybe one of them has to be disabled just for SH5.
