patched the game to the latest version... or rather, it did that on its own, which is a nice welcome change to the series :salute:

So i went out on mission number 2. Patrolling the southwestern approaches i eventually encountered a rather large convoy, heavily escorted... perhaps 8 escorts in total.

Sank three ships, damaged a fourth and waited it out.

the convoy passed by... i wated a little while and surfaced to finish off the straggler.

put about 15-20 deck gun rounds into him and he sank.

but wait, whats this? one of the escorts came racing back at high speed... fog had settled in, so it wasn't anything the watch crew noticed until it was rushing out of the fog.

the Destroyer made a hard turn and began to circle me as the crew secured the deck gun and i madly dashed for the conning tower.

machine gun fire raked across the deck as i stumbled to climb the ladder.

once i made my way up the ladder, i threw open the hatch in time to hear the heavy guns open up.

One round missed... another found its mark into the diesel engine room.

Slamming the hatch over my head i quickly gave the crash dive order.

we submerged to heavy flooding.

"Pressure hull breached."

"Diesel engines damaged"

"Electric engines damaged"

reports began to pour in almost as quickly as the water did.

on a bad note... none of the crew seemed to care, it was "situation normal" to them it seemed to have the boat becoming more and more crippled by damage all around them.

as i descended through 100 meters... well.

Death screen.

It wasnt the instant death screen, but rather this sort of spin out to the sky sort of thing similar to SH4.

and so my first real enemy contact ends in disaster.

Lesson learned.

1. if you have patched your game - you better start respecting DDs

2. you have to be inside the boat to order a crash dive or a dive of any kind... so you dont want to be caught on the forward deck when **** hits the fan.

Nice story!

Could the fog have prevented the spotting of that DD or was it a bug?

Hey uh... how come the captain was down on deck?

Espicially in a combat situation :haha: :salute:

My green horn deck gun crew was aiming too high on their last half dozen shots.

it was one of those "Damnit... let me show you how to do this!" moments.

as far as them not spotting the DD... i think it was fog, they had actually been pretty good about spotting ships and planes since the patch.
