I just don't get it. Seriously. It's a masterpiece considering the artists are amateurs (a family), the proportions of the torso look very realistic. Is that snow-statue in any way a sexual object before? No, but it certainly became so after the family was forced to dress it up.
Ridiculous laws, but mostly a ridiculous neighbour, the one who complained... :nope:

My wife and I got quite a laugh out of this story. It's been in the local papers here a few days ago. This is just a few towns over from us.

Quite impressive sculpture.

Whoever was offended should have seen the snow 'sculptures' that used to adorn the lawns in front of the frats at our alma mater.

As I remember they were depicting positions from the Kama Sutra.:DL

What now? Shutting down museums? Putting boxershorts and bikinis on all those ancient Hellenic marmor sculptures which in general are far more - explicit in the display of certain details?

Boy there are too many dumb retarded idiots, and I even cannot laugh about their folly anymore, because they have started to rule the world, and bring down what is good and noble and relativise it until they can say that their own primitivity is of equal value and nothing makes a difference and it'S all the same anyway. Pfui bah.

If you follow the link to one of the press stories, which I posted, there is also a photo of the snow statue from behind... :03:

I dunno, I can see not having such things in public areas. At least in museums and art galleries you are not forced to see it. But I also think it's over reaction (the old puritan influences never seem to go away in the states). It is funny that violence is perfectly acceptable, yet sex and love are not.

But I can remember a rather controversial work of art set outside a bank or something back when I lived in Montreal. It was a 2D cutout sculpture, metal, painted like a 5 year old would paint, featuring naked girls and boys (adult as they did have 'hair' down there) with genitalia that were similarly drawn. Females had the usual hairy clam thing, and the males were erect. It managed to stay that way for quite a while, but the owners eventually censored it by attached flowers matching the art style over the genitals. No clue if they were forced to though or they were sick of the complaints.

This was in Montreal which I would say is one of the most sexually liberated cities in North America.

The statue of David was required to be dressed when it appeared in Texas at Christmas.

Not sure what you mean by "Hellenic marmor sculptures".

The Herms spring to mind tho. they used to be scattered all over Greece in
houses and at cross roads. As touching the Herm was believed to give
people, especially travelers, good luck.

Personally, I think we should get over our hang-up about nudity.
It's ridiculous the way nudity is fetishised.

I don't know, I think she looks better dressed up. I actually laughed at that image - makes for quite the artistic statement.

We think we're an enlightened society but we , regress back to cavemen on a daily schedule.

Why is it I only see the beauty in that statue and only envy the artists talents.

They don't say yes either, and I wouldn't like to be the one guy caught on camera with the cold-hearted lass.

Absurd.

If that had been my sculpture, after getting it dressed I believe I would have carved the arms and head, and layed them on the ground, with blood red stains all over the place, and see if that was better. People and their hang-ups. What a joke. :nope:

Where on earth do people get these strange hang-ups?

I guess they must be a-little self conciouse about their own looks, without all the fancy dressing.

I don't know. It's going to be hard to explain to the aliens from outer space why everyone is wearing clothes on a hot and humid summer day. Female breasts? It's fine until you're about 2 years old, then it's taboo. Big old man boobs on the beach? No problem.

Brilliant, whoever thought of that. Thanks! :shifty:

Besides if it was hot and everyone was naked walking through the city, just imagine:
Bump, what was that! oh you pig! watch where you point that thing mate! etc
Just imagine all the young men, your sitting on a balcony watching them below, getting aroused: up, down, up, down, every where!!:har:
