View Full Version : Modders to the Rescue! - Have A Look At These Mods

Pablo

Hi!

For those who haven't had the chance to peruse the SH5 Mods forum, you should know that modders are already hard at work trying to mitigate some of the more vexatious "features" of Silent Hunter V. I have attached descriptions and pointers for several useful mods; a complete list is available here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=1286049#post1286049

Thanks to all of you for sharing! :yeah:

Warning: Caveat emptor: some of these mods may interfere with each other.

Yes a massive thanks to all of our talented modders and also thanks to the devs Dan & Mihai who have been on hand for most of what I presume is their day off to offer advice and tips on both the mod tools and modding in general.

It reminds me of the scene in Das Boot where the crew is working on repairs all over the boat, it won't be long until SH5 surfaces again at this rate, great work guys.

Yes, three cheers for the modders and their awesome work.

With barely any time to work in, they've fundamentally changed the SH5 experience for me. Even so far as to work around game crippling bugs (i.e. zero morale)

I'm currently running:

MoraleMod [sailor - you will get off your ass and do what I ask!]
MightyFine Crew Mod [you - get the hell off my UZO! And the next man who points at thin air gets chucked overboard!]
Slower Walking, Faster Running
RemoveLogoIntro
Less Annoying Footsteps
Advanced Shift Keys 1.6 [yay, depth under keel!]
OldStyleControls101 [controls I can actually use to sensibly command by boat!]

:)

And a big thanks to JSGME (http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products-jsgme.html)too!

I have to echo what's already been said. The mod work that's been done in such a short space of time is already outstanding. I have to admit my first impressions of vanilla SH5 were not too great, I find the UI to be horrific. But props to the devs for making the game so mod-friendly, it has enormous potential. The few mods such as listed above make the sim great, in my opinion, and the possibilities for the future are incredible.

Thanks to the devs and the modders, excellent community here.

For the record, here are the mods I'm running currently:
Accurate German Flags
Less Annoying Footsteps
MoraleMod
No Damn Bubbles, No Damn Halo
No crosshair
Old Style SH Controls
Free Cam Tweak
4 Men on Bridge demo
Church's SHV Keyboard Commands
Capthelm's SH5 Audio mod

+ a couple of tweaks by me to remove the orange submerged marker, and remove the annoying sound made when you press the Ctrl key.

Hi!

I think the current approach is workable for now since there is a lot of work that is still on-going, and because JSGME is very good at allowing you to manage new versions of component mods.

I think the point to start considering "merged mods" is when the fixes start over-writing the same files, since the point of a "super mod" is to integrate mods that are otherwise incompatible.

Quite agreed. I was exaggerating, but the mods will be coming fast and furious. There's a lot of work to be done.

The management recommends that we keep the same thread for each mod, rather then a new one for each release. It makes it a lot easier to keep all discussion of a particular mod in one thread rather than spread out over several.

NOTE - when you are starting a mod thread it is recommended that the "version" number should NOT be used as part of thread title but instead please put any mod version number in the first line of the thread text so you can go back anytime and edit or update it as you see fit.

Ok.. The the thing is the amount of mods is increasing very rapidly. So to keep track on all of them you have to open every thread that begins with [REL] just to check that there is nothing new on that release. But if we could see the version in the thread title updated evey time something new has been added it would save loads of time don;t you think so ? I try to keep the track on all the mods I can but I just feel my head will soon gonna explode from sweeping them again and again when somebody makes a new post in the thread :) I honestly hope you get the idea how much it is frustrating for the guy who wants to follow any news on mods like mad :)

I just cannot say enough "thank you's" for the revised keyboard layout. Being able to use arrow keys to move the capn around while focusing boat management on the main keys has made this game MUCH easier to play. When I first installed the game I was looking for a way to remap the keys to this very thing. So again, thank you.

I agree, SOFBear, despite the fact that I'm still getting used to movement being tied to the arrow keys (which I don't necessarily agree with, since I keep my right hand on my mouse and my left hand near the left side of the keyboard, and have to move it every time I want to walk around), it's really turned SH5 upside-down for me. It feels so much more like Silent Hunter III now that all the basic orders are back, and it makes it actually possible to play with map contacts turned off (because you can ask your officers to track targets for you and then jot them down on the map using your marker).

If SH5's players can be seen as sub skippers, then the modders are the trusty mechanics, engineers and scientists keeping the u-boat weapon running and constantly improving upon the technology available for the war effort. The game's barely been released, and you've already done the equivalent of at least one big official patch! Like the others singing praises, I just can't thank you enough:yeah:!

Ubisoft did a half crappy job on the game and I wanted to thank all the modders out there for fixing the game and also adding the details Ubisoft left out. They really dropped the ball on this game. They added the ability to walk around inside the sub and interact with your crew members more and wiped out nearly all essencial functionality. I'm working on a few mods myself which I will release when they are finished.

Thanks Again Everyone for pitching in to fix Ubisoft's many many errors!

Hi!

These mods should be installable with with JSGME, but they may not be compatible with each other. JSGME should tell you if a mod that you are installing is going to overwrite files from a mod that you have already installed.

If you have different mods altering the same files then you will have to reconcile the mods yourself (a "home-brew" version) or see if the mod authors are willing or able to make adjustments.

Your best bet is to go to the discussion threads for the mods that you have downloaded and seek guidance there. The first post of this thread has links to the discussion threads. Your best bet for installing them is to use the JSGME tool.

There is a tutorial for JSGME located here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=163447

Hope this helps!

I wanted the morale mod and the multiple UI mod.

So wierd...how do these darn things work?

1st thing to do is put a COPY of JSME in the main dir of SH5 ( C:\\ubisoft\sh5\ or something like that)

2nd in SH5 directory there will be a folder called MODS so it will be something like C:\\udisoft\SH5\MODS this is where you put ALL the MODS you download after you unZIP or 7z

3rd look in the folder MODS there youll find your MODS look in to the files you will see more folders data and so on some times the files have not been extracted propply you will some times see the mod name again just cut and past it to the main mods folder.

4th now in c:\\ubisoft\sh5 run JSME it will show you the mods you have in the MODS folder

Hope that helps

New to modding ,, was actually new to silent hunter just some months ago ,, but i know a good thing ... anyways ,, I just want to say that the community here is impressive ,The modders are amazing ,, the mods are amazing .. Ive found Ailclouds and smoke and such ,, dont think that guy has a bad mod ,, I installed most of them ,, they are much better than stock .. The smoke mod makes the fire look .. just so much better ,, the clouds .. actually begin to sort of (feel ) like clouds ,, where i thought they looked good before ,Now they are quite impressive ,, this has to do with me playing the original first of course and any improvement from there being appreciated .. because i have a baseline ..In any case ,, it is an improvement .. the white interior is a nice improvement .. dark wraiths ui mod is just awesome but i drop directly to desktop when i hit one of the buttons so i dont use it anymore ..mightyfine crew is just the freaking bomb .. Love that mod ,, and i also use the accurate ammo ,and the realistic floatation mod . Loaded the fistful mod but it doesnt work or i have got something wrong ,, why they would only include those ten silly captains emblems is beyond me , glad to at least have a mod that will get me my red devil ,even if i cannot get it to work ,, somehow it is still comforting to know there is a fix ,, and i can come here and get it .. whole new world here ,, just wanna say hello and thanks guys .

AMAZING work by all involved....thank you!! :yeah:

And (sorry if this ticks some of you off) again further proof that those that HAVE the source code could have fixed most of this garbage in a couple days at most. If modders with no source code could do this in such short order there is No excuse for the state SH5 was released in :nope:

they release it unfinished on purpose so that you will buy addon which will fix most probs, way of getting more money for game.the dame thing happened with empire total war.then they brought out napoleon which fixed things.this is why they dont want modders to fix things completely it would spoil there greedy carry ones.
