The U-Boot Bunker is quite neatly done. Are they the same in each Atlantic harbor, or did they model them accurately one by one? I guess having one type is sufficient for a sim.
Can you access more rooms in there and walk around? And how about that gun the guy on the left has... I sense a game in a game... Secret Hunter V -- Return to Bunker Brunsbüttel... ;-)

Nope you are limited to your ship side of the dock. And thats it. You can't even get on your ship.. You have to go to an officer on the side to start your mission.

Its neat though, nice little touch. Fun leaving port too. The ports are very very well done.

Just watch out for the kamakazi ships... LOL>

Sadly it's just that one room. I would've loved an office (or two -- one for you and one for your commanding officer), bar, and other facilities, or even more dock rooms, but sadly, this is all there is. Maybe they can be modded in, or added by patches or x-packs.

When you dock at a harbour, the game goes into a loading screen (far as I remember), and then you're teleported to the inside of the pen, with the boat parked with its bow facing the exit (you don't have to actually dock, just get within range of the pen and hit "End Patrol"). You can talk to one officer to upgrade your boat or choose a custom torpedo loadout, and another to get a briefing, request a mission, and start your patrol. When you do, you're teleported onto the bridge and free to move the boat.

Funny thing is, even while you're walking around inside the pen, your crew will still be on the bridge, binoculars in hand -- sometimes there's even an "talk to me so my morale goes up, please!" thought bubble over the watch officer's head.

Biggest problem right now is the lack of fanfare when leaving/arriving. Heck, there's not even a screen at the end telling you how you performed in terms of objectives achieves, kills, renown gained, etc. Your commander says "Welcome home" when you go talk to him, and that's it.

Still, very nicely done.

Heck a little fanfare or perhaps a little thing when they award you a medal. I've gotten 4 medals awarded to me so far and just found out about it on my last patrol

We have Silent Running that effectively acts as a cloaking device (I was just attacked by DD's who, after reducing my hull integrity to 17%, just flew right past me when I set depth to 20 metres and the engines to "Dead slow ahead"), laser-guided 88mm shells, and the ability to get the German spy satellites to give you the coordinates of every ship in a 2000 kilometres radius... did they make a modern sub game and then decide to convert it to a WWII setting at the very last minute?

The one I remember as a kid had little grey plastic ships moving across the back (like the old fairground duckshoot, yeah?) The "sea" was a crinkled piece of cardboard painted blue. When you looked through a scope and fired a light traveled underneath the cardboard towards the ships. It was brilliant though! :yeah:

i have been reading the threads and loving the humor, 'specially the FFFFFUUUUU character - that is really funny.:yeah:

but when i think about SH3 and all the work that has gone into it - gwx, the mods - all that work all that care to detail, the time put into it! and the game is 5 years old and still brilliant!!.

i wonder how long SH5 will take to get there. and i have got to say that the people who are buying it - i take my hat off to you all - coz even if i had the machine to run SH5 i would not buy it yet - would'nt have the patience to sit through all the problems it seems to be having: its just not right releasing a product in that state.

so keep buying it and let me know when its finished because thats when i will have enough money for a new machine. the water clarity does look gorgeous though (envious moment...:yep:)
