Looking at some of the posts here and of course the DRM fiasco.. Something is really dawning on me here... There is HIGH expectations for World War 2 submarine simulations. So you can idmagine that if SH5 fails to deliver (And it did fail already in my opinion DRM alone did that), There will be many people going back to a modded SH4.

Enough with the 2nd World War. We have fought it over and over and over again. Countless Shooters, Flight Sims and Arcades.. Strategy.

Ever wonder how "World In Conflict" got such great ratings early on even despite the bugs? It was new it took risks and really drove you in with rich story and a conflict highly detailed. Beaten only by Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy.

Ubisoft, SH5 is going to be a flop in my opinion. Yes mainly because of your insane DRM but also because you pretended like walking in the sub is worthy of another 50 bucks (That's simplistic but its the "main" feature) To me its not. Especially when SH4 has such great modifications already.

Ubisoft, It's time to take a risk in my opinion. You already have the rights to the Tom Clancy line. And of course one of his best novels was made as a backstory to a video game. A Silent Hunter game set in that universe would sell very well in my opinion. Being able to slap Tom Clancy on a candy bar would cause it to sell out these days :D

The 688 for the US and for extra difficulty Tango, Kilo, or Foxtrot for the Soviet Union. In my opinion these would be the best classes with of course options for DLC later...

If you have never read "Red Storm Rising" you simply wont understand and will think this topic is just another "Cold War" Request. And it is. And the increasing volume of those requests ought to tell ubisoft something.

Enough World War 2 already!

The problem with WW3 is if it really happened with any degree of realism, everyone would die.

It's almost impossible for everyone to die in a nuclear attack. Nobody is going to aim a nuke at the middle of nowhere and on top of that countless people would be able to survive underground. No not like Fallout type stuff but about the only thing that could kill EVERYONE is a huge asteroid (But then Movie stars would save us :DL )

Now about the subject in the book it didn't turn to nukes (I wont spoil it any further than that if you have not read it) Is it realistic? Debatable which would take about 4 years worth of college courses worth of study.

However it does not matter. The story the conflict was amazingly detailed. You want to talk about perfect material to drag people in. Think about tom clancy games you have played. Such as Endwar. Story galore. Details, books and the works. That beats any "realistic" so called simulation of WW3 any day.

And dont start talking about how SH is WW2 realstic. Tell me was there a captain Zachstar hunting in the pacific with a S-Class? Etc.. Etc.. Enough is enough in my opinion. If SH5 can be recovered with mods. It SH3 and SH4 will cover WW2 just fine for alteast half a decade. Why not give something fresh a try?

Your right in a way, but its more the DRM issue people are going ape sh*t over. Assassins Creed 2 drm, supreme commander 2 drm fans and non fans hyped up over this drm. Over here in one popular gaming site where Silent hunter is never mention, till now since SH 5 has drm oh man the posts are becoming heated with posters that wouldn't touch SH with a 10 foot pole but cause it has DRM theirs a reason to vent. the mods are in full force on this site since SH5 was released.

No one wants this DRM. Can't blame them either. I feel sorry for the dudes that have no internet connection and want to play SH5 or any other SP game that requires a connection.

Even without the DRM the game has to have a COMPLETELY fresh feel in order to do U-boats again.

Anything less causes people to look at it and say "Why? I already have SH4 gold and modded" This is not Modern Warfare 2 where people go nuts because you can shoot UAVs on their decked out SLI 3 way systems with HD TVs for displays. Simmers tend to be more cost conscientious and that is bad news for someone trying to put the same feel into games over and over.

If they did SH6 with Fleet Boats.. Would the game even sell 3/4ths of what SH5 is selling for?

I don't really agree. I find uboats fascinating regardless of how many times it's done.

And I imagine most of America hasn't experienced a war from this perspective, from that matter, leaving plenty of potential customers.

Heck, I didn't even know about this series until less than a year ago. Now I'm hooked. Count me as a living example that it can and does work.

Can't say I'd play a cold war one, no offense.

You say potential customers. Customers that have seen Silent Hunter for years and years and suddenly will get the game.

Will that happen yes? But not nearly enough to warrant the development funds to continue this madness.

And yes many wont play a "RSR" sim. But lets face the facts. Clancy sells. U-Boats and fleet boats have had their time and continuing to do them over and over has led to this fiasco of SH5. Where walking on the sub becomes suddenly its main "Selling" point instead of being fresh in its entire perspective.

For all we know SH5 being clobbered with lack of sales mainly due to staleness and DRM (Sadly I wouldn't buy SH5 right now even if it had a Destroyer Command perspective) Could end the line. Game development is expensive and its going to be REALLY hard to convince the higher ups to fund yet another line.

Now im not saying "It goes Clancy or it goes" Being fresh can be any number of things. Heck if they wanted to go WW2 again atleast do it from a surface perspective. Let us fight with battleships not hacked in perhaps. Or a more broad multiunit perspective. More WW2 TDC isnt a recipe for more sales.
