View Full Version : Does anyone not have the loss of morale on loading a game bug?
Just wondering if this is an across the board problem or if it's related to a specific configuration. Is there anyone who doesn't have their morale reset to nothing when you load a save?
I have read quite a few people experiencing this. Have reloaded my patrol quite a few times today and it has not happened to me.
Seems to be an intermittent thing.
Well, it would be highly bizzare if this was indeed config-related. I will look into it a bit, but my understanding is that everyone has it.
The only thing I can think of that would make SOME sense is that I chose not to store my saves on the server :hmmm:

I've reloaded many times but haven't noticed anything like that.
Okay, let me look into possible relation to commands.cfg. If it is, I will probably be extremely embarassed :damn:

I have not been focusing on this aspect of the game yet. How do I check on my crew's "morale level"?
Go to your "crew management" screen and see if it has any yellow circles to the right of "Morale". If there is 5 of them, morale is at 100%. If there are none, chances are it's reset to 0.
Also talk to crew members and see if you have yellow or grey circles at the top of their dialog box.

Where is that option CCIP?

Same here, I wonder if that's the culprit. This is the only bug that's really bothering me right now. There are of course others but after SH3 and SH4 I can get by with a few bugs.
You can hit the "options" button when Ubi launcher pops up before game start (a little cogwheel thingy at the top of the window next to 'close') and select this.

It was happening to me both before and after I changed commands.cfg, in my OP I meant Hardware/Driver/Etc configuration.
No, I haven't been able to track down any cause for it so far. It's not whether the saves go on the server or are stored locally, it's not the commands config, and it's not anything else that I can see so far (like overwriting old saves for example). As far as I can tell, that's just an issue I consistently have.

mmm...Can it have something to do with the browser of Ubi and your safety settings for the Internet? Like accept no cookies or something? :hmmm:
dont hit me, just "brainstorming"....

I have this bug to. Moral goes 0 when loading a save. U can see it on the dialog boxes.
I'm looking at my locally-saved files, and it's rather strange. (namely, ActiveUserPlayerUnits.upc in each save folder). The saves I do before exiting the game definitely show morale/morale pool for each individual crew member as being non-0 (7 and 5, respectively). Afterwards if I get into the game and save again, the pool goes to 1 and morale to 0. So the problem definitely happens somewhere during the first time you reload a safe game.
I.e. it's not the save files doing it. The save files have morale saved. But for some reason these values are not interpreted correctly when the game loads.
Which tells me it's a hard-code issue, not data. The way in which the game recognizes this data when it loads saves is borked.

Out of all the nonsense in the current version, this zero morale bug is an absolute game killer. :damn:

I wonder if its possible to disable morale degredation altogether? Somewhere, there should be something like "Morale Coef = 0.X". My first guess on where to look would be the UPC files for the individual submarines. Probably in the compartment definitions therein. Assuming that did work, you might have to restart your game in order for it to take effect, or assume a new command. If SH5 is anything like SH4, the game reads info for your sub from the data files ONCE, and then saves a working copy of that in your save game. From there it reads from that working copy, and doesn't look in the data directory again until there's a reason to, like aquiring a new sub. Then it takes that data, and makes a new working copy.
edit:
Morale Coef could also be in the crew configuration files, where ever those are.

Well Ducimus since you so graciously volunteered all this information, perhaps you'd like to take a stab at it? :O:
My guess would be "Sleepcoef" or "EfficiencyDenominator". I'm too tired to test now but I'm sure CCIP will be along soon :03:

First time post, but Id like to report i have this bug as well. Though on both reloads ive done so far, the morale seemed to rebound back to 100% within the first couple minutes of playing. Mostly it was back to 100% before I was half way though the Kiel canal

That's an interesting point. We still don't really know what happens to our files when we synchronize with the central server,
As I noted in earlier post, that is exactly what I tested today. Doesn't make a difference, sadly.

can you see anything in the save game files to suggest it is saved there as it would have to be for it not to start new each time?

Yeah, as I mentioned on the previous page, I've looked. It's under ActiveUserPlayerUnits.upc in each save folder, if you choose to keep games locally. It does save the morale, but not load it correctly.

Even if I choose to not save my games online through the Ubi launcher, I still get the message that they were synchronized with the server when I start the game. And they still come back if I delete them from the folder manually. Who knows what's going on there?

CCIP i thought I noticed something about a console being available when the modding functions were enabled? Maybe we can reset the moral from there within the game by typing in a command? Could be worth a shot.

I just saw this setting that Ducimus was musing about related to the moral coefficient. It seems to be in basic.cfg

There's a section for every crew member. Could be worth to reset to 0 (or 1? I don't know how that value is used) and test with a new campaign and save game or however you've been testing so far.

basic.cfg is leftover from SH3. It didn't do anything in SH4, id assume the same for SH5.
Basic.cfg though, is probably where i remember seeing moralecoef though. Doh! It seems ive run my games together.
Yeah, I'm pretty certain that basic.cfg does nothing in SH5.

Hi guys,
The morale bug should have been fixed after patch 1.0. However if you already saved a game and the morale is now reset to 0, it will not fix this problem unfortunately.
In order to get this fix working you should start a new campaign and all should work well after that.
However i am not sure if the problem is 100% fixed, so if something still goes wrong you should use the Morale mod.
Hope this helps

The morale bug should have been fixed after patch 1.0.
It most definitely isn't as far as I can see. Fresh campaign on a fresh patched install and morale is broken right after the first save.
I have seen morale increase with ship sinkings, but once you get zeroed out by the bug you're screwed pretty much.
R-T-B has released a little mod which disables the morale part of the game.

And it seems to be working like a charm, woohoo!
I haven't run into the problem myself yet of crew refusing to obey orders, but I have run into the 0 morale on reload. However it hasn't been an issue for me so far.
On my way out of Kiel I checked out my crew screen and noted I had 19 promotion points from the tutorial. I invested most of my upgrade points in the cook (increased cap + special meal x 4 each) and bosun (confident officer x 4) the remainder on the sound man (range) and engineer (decreased noise). If my morale is low, or 0 on reload, I just have the cook make a special meal and it's full again; at least on the crew summary screen it is, the dialogue ones maybe/are? bugged or something. Sometimes they're there, sometimes not. The special meal has a cool down but I don't remember how many hours. I also don't know if there is a finite number of them so I'm trying to use it as often as I can to see if it will run out.
My plan is to put more points in other areas later after some successful patrols. My experience with the game so far is rather limited; just wrapping up my first patrol after the tutorial.

On a reload, everybody loses all their experence too.
Also note: That it can get MUCH MUCH worse then just a morale bug on a reload...you can get this wonderful bug...where your crew doesnt exist anymore.....and as you can tell by the efficenty...its impossible to do anything on the boat. This corrupted my recent career completely. All autosaves have it.

I get it all the time. But what does it really effect? All you can't do is do the special abilities anyay. And if you get the cook special meal he can clear it up real quick.
Of course having to do this all the time is totally annoying. SO yeah it better be fixed.

Hmm to be honest I get a loss of morale every time I start the game! -
So much so I'm thinking of buying the latest Stalker - I already have Napoleon Total War which is good as well as Aliens V's Preditor which is entertaining -
None of the above cause the same loss of morale as does Silent Hunter 5 which I've had for three days and already seriously bored with - I know there's some modding activity and some of this looks promising
Guess we will have to wait and see but if you want a lift in morale buys ome other games.
