I could also download the SHV Guide and the SHV soundtrack nicely yesterday.

And I alreday got the game serial to unlock the game when downloaded and installed.

Like dagamecat I would like to know about the GERMANvoice/ENG subtitles possibility and if their installer let us choose the installation path.

Cancelled my Collector`s Edition at Amazon. What is the point pre-ordering two months ago. It was still not shipped...

Also got the manual, serial and soundtrack. Only thing I miss out now is the map.

I normally use Steam, but they still not released SH5 and no Collectors/Gold edition available.

Does it give you the full install, as in the same that should be on the disk, with German voices.

Do you need to run it through any game launcher, like Steam does, or is it simply installed the same way as of the disk?

One can choose to perform the familiar installation to a custom location. It seems that the English/German language option is set at the time of installation, where you are prompted to choose this.

So, I tested it a bit.
I chose installation in german with german language pack and now the whole game is german (as i wanted it to be :D)

Everything looks as it would if you're installing from DVD, no special software is needed.

So from my side i give two thumbs up for gamersgate :yeah:


Oh, and SH5 looks nice, too :D

Oh, and dont let the gamersgate installer delete the temporary files after installation, it's the whole 4.2 GB of the installation files.
If you delete the temp files, you have to download the whole game again if you want to reinstall.

since I'm quite used to steam, I was about to buy it from them (no interest in the collector edition, which price is way off what it adds...).

I have just began downloading at gamersgate :O:

Yesterday, I was connected at steam during the afternoon only to see the game was about to delivered at around 1:50 am during the night of the 3rd in france, with a counter showing a 7h left before release... I was connected again at 1:50, up to 2:30 am only to find the counter had disapeared and the game wasn't available without further delivery date! just a "available march, 2010"!!!
Well, they failed to delivered it on par with their promise and furthermore didn't even give a new precise date... personnaly, I hate being taken for a useless idiot. If you say you'll do something at a given time, do it. Don't give such a precise timer showing even minutes if you're not sure you'll deliver it on exact time. I hate having my patience tried like that with such an arrogant marketing behaviour.

I was then too happy to discover gamersgate which was able to deliver it on time and before steam AND giving me an opportunity to punish steam regarding SH5.

I'm still downloading, cant write anything about the sim itself.

However as Therion_Prime pointed out earlier, it is highly recommended that you do NOT delete the "GamersGate temporary files" directory so you can later re-install the game as many time you want.

I personally recommend burning the dir into DVDR or perhaps RAR/7zip it up for safe keeping in your hard drive.

Gamersgate purchase and download was very fast. But...there is a problem with the Ubisoft installer. I have informed Gamersgate and Ubisoft of the problem. Will keep you updated. I await some tech support.

I have purchased and downloaded Silent Hunter 5 Collector`s edition at Gamersgate.


All was very smooth. But after download I cannot get the installer to work.

I see the install menu, but when I hit install it just does nothing.

To be sure I have re-downloaded again. But alas the same problem. The game wants to install but than stops with this error.

This time I have kept the backup files and when I try to use the installer or launcher I get a Windows error.

My OS is indeed Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

This is clearly a Ubisoft installer problem.


I have reported this problem to Gamersgate, together with all necessary info.

Send my Dxdiag to Gamersgate, together with a picture of the installer error.

Should I mail them also to Ubisoft tech support?

It looks like problem lies within the Ubisoft installer.exe.
