Unfortunately, we are aware of two problems that are still present after the patch. Below you can find their description and a workaround for each one of them:

Problem 1: Sometimes the player can remain stuck between collision boxes and cannot move anymore

Workaround: By pressing SHIFT+U player will be repositioned in the command room of the submarine

Problem 2: In the following situation the player cannot access the UPlay rewards:

- The player has Windows Vista or Windows 7 installed
- Uses a standard user account (no admin rights)
- Silent Hunter 5 is installed in the c:\Program Files\Folder (to prevent this, the game is installed by default in c:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter5 – not in Program Files)
- In Windows Vista and Windows 7, the “Program Files” folder has special restrictions, that leads to this problem

Workaround: Don’t install the game into the “Program Files” directory

Someone please post release notes for those of us less fortunate. :DL

And maybe if people see that important bugs are getting ferreted out and fixed quickly they'll be more inclined to buy!

It's a shame that UbiSoft still hasn't released the game (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/1121062387/m/3521025638) to their digital pre-orderers, but I guess it's nice everyone that bought it from a store gets a patch. :)

It check for an update when you launch,

It finds the update and your able to choose whether to install it or not.

When downloaded you decide whether to patch it or not.

Mu mods are still there and my commands.cfg didn't change.

Did they add a depth under keel command or are we just supposed to guess how deep it is?
sadly I don't know, but when I'm surfaced, i use some wire, with tied-up knots every 10 meters, attached to a metal disc ( 0.5 kilos should be enough ) and just let it go in the water, and see how deep it goes. as far as underwater measuring goes, I'm still trying to figure that one out

If your really smart you can find the command in your old SH4 config and add it to SH5 ;]

So I need to go through my old SH4 config (which has been removed months ago off my HD), and find the command to add it to SH5 when it should have been put in there from the start? :damn:

Are we seriously on the same page here? Just want to make sure. :nope:

Heh... way to go UBI ! :yeah:

I don't know if that is suppose to be a slam or not.. But the way that is worded if you know anythhing about windows Vista or 7 you would realise what they are trying to say.

When you put it into the default directory IE program files.. this directory is a Protected file system in vista and W7. Programs can't right to anything in there unless Admin Access is granted.

It gives problems to all kinds of games, not just this one. Its a common problem.

Highbury

Heh... way to go UBI ! :yeah:

Ubi is far from perfect, but the Vista/Win 7 issues are not on them. No game should be installed into Program Files with these operating systems, especially ones that you expect to mod or patch often. You are just asking for trouble.

That is why most games, SH5 included, no longer default to the Program Files folder when installing. If you re-direct it there.. well I don't think that is Ubi's fault.

There are many worthy things to bash Ubi on lol, but this one is all Microsoft.

No this has not been fixed.

And I still have nobody at my dive planes stations. Is everyone else getting this issue as I don't see many people talking about it? Seems a big issue to me that these are missing and even bigger that they couldn't even fix a simple problem like this in the recent patch!!

that is a strange issue, sometimes they are there, sometimes they aren't and I can't figure out what causes them to appear.

could it be maybe from alt-tabbing ? i know in SH3 and SH4 i had sound/gfx issues if i had alt-tabbed while playing, like i would ALWAYS hear the engines no matter what, the stupid deck-watch crew would still remain even when i would dive, and so on.... (although i guess this has nothing to do with alt-tabbing)

ok seems like they are appearing.

Whenever I go to periscope depth or dive etc.. they appear. But its not instant. It can sometimes be 15-20m before they appear. Just a timing issue I think.

First off I have to say I am a bit confused with the version number, and people saying it is auto-updating. Mine did not update on it's own. I had to run Silent Hunter 5\Support\GameUpdater\gu.exe to update my game. If I had not seen threads here I would not have known through the software alone that there was an update... very odd others auto-updated... I don't see anywhere that I have turned the feature off.

As for version numbers, mine was v1.0.5 as shown on the main screen. The patcher said it was downloading and installing v1.0.1 (which of course looks like a step back). When running the game the main screen now shows v1.1.5 :06: Very confusing.

Or did it do it without your asking?

As I said above, I had to make it patch, obviously others didn't. With mine, after the file was downloaded it asked me if I wanted to execute it right away. Obviously I am not sure if it asked the people who auto-updated.

If so, did you have any mods installed yet?

Command Keys 1.02
Accurate German Flags
No Damn Bubbles, No Damn Halo Mod

If so, where they overwritten?

They were all fine.

yes, they are not there when surfaced. They do not appear right away when you dive, but will appear eventually.

maybe they have to take a bathroom break and go to the Head before they switch station. Since there is only one, there must be a long line up..:salute:

I do not think all those fixes listed made it in, they were not all listed over at the official site nor on patching the client, unfortunately I have no patch readme available to check. I still cannot use the obs/atk scope under certain circumstances, and to answer an earlier question, morale is still being zeroed on loading a save game. Also, I have no idea if this is related to the patch or not, but, in two separate save files now, my hull has taken 23% damage on loading, if I didn't have the habit of keeping incremental saves I would have been pissed.

Ran into a problem post-patch.

Found a merchant, sunk him.. open the captains log and the game freezes (before the log even comes up). Figured it was just bad luck. Thankfully i saved it prior to the engagement.

Reloaded it, sank him, opened the log to see what the tonnage was and game froze. Not bad luck afterall.

Reloaded it again. Opened the log everything working fine. SInk the ship, open log and it freezes.

When i say freeze, the audio seems fine.. but the graphics are frozen and unrespsonsive. Have to CTRL+ALT+DEL and kill the process. Is it just my save thats porking it? I dunno. It was a new mission in my current campaign starting at port after installing the patch. Will probably load up one of the scenarios and see if it's not my save, but it's getting late so no time now.

[EDIT] Apparently it was my save file. I started a new career with the patch, and im not having that problem anymore (yet).

:haha::har::haha::har:

Thats just pure gold, the super-duper new system for revolutionizing our gaming experience and delivering a new level of service to customers, doesn't work on Windows 7 or Vista

Pure gold...

I wonder if those 'special restrictions' have anything to do with spyware, root kits or the likes... :hmmm:

derblaueClaus

It does work under Windows 7 or Vista. But not if you install them in the "Programm Files"-Folder. Wich is logical as there are admin-restrictions from Windows regarding that folder. So as a wise user you shouldn't and blame Microsoft and not UBI this time. ;)

I confirm, hydrophone is buggy in the first patch. Only a blank notebook comes up on the left hand corner, no way to turn the wheel or any info on sounds... there is no button to make it go away, somehow after a few minutes it just dissappeared..

Use the mouse wheel to rotate

I really miss clicking on the dial to rotate. Using the mouse wheel is downright carpel tunnel inducing.

Aye me too, that was my favorite way to do it. I only used the mousewheel to fine tune it.

But.. there are still hotkeys for turning it - Home & End keys.

Well in the 35 page manual, it says left-click on handler to change direction AND use the Volume nob to adjust sound received.

I can't click them, anybody?

I found a good one.

When Impulse downloaded the patch and installed it - the patch installed to

C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5

Which is a rather unfortunate place since the game isn't actually installed anywhere near there...

I would agree with this, except for the fact that THIS HAS BEEN THE CASE SINCE VISTA WAS RELEASED MORE THAN TWO YEARS AGO!

Windows provides easy ways for programs to write per user and per machine data to the right place. The fact that more than two years later newly developed programs still aren't doing this is an epic fail on the part of game developers.

And is it v1.01 or v1.1?

1.15 or 1.1.5 depending on if your developer understands how version notation works or not.

SH5 with patch v1.1

Process:
1. Dived.
2. Surfaced. (CO2 30%)
3. Dead. (CO2 100%)

How could I decrease CO2? :hmmm:
CO2 increased on the surface of the sea.

Situation:
- The hatch on the deck was open.
- The diesel engine was running.
- In storm, no watcher.

Wow! How the hell did it get past QA ? Some of those bugs should easily have been picked up :hmmm:

Oh yeah, I remember, UBI doesn't do QA....it relies on it's paying customers to beta test. :nope:

So glad I haven't bought it...:woot:

Hmmm?
I was sure that 10% of CO2 is deadly toxic...

According to my data: carbon dioxide structures: O=C=O. chemical formula is CO2 whose molecules composed by two oxygen atoms and one of carbon.
Inhalation Produces asphyxia, cause hyperventilation. The long term exhibition is dangerous
Concentration to the 50% in the mortal air.
Not if those of UBI have considered these scientific data.

Frederf

Assuming that the CO2 meter was in "X% of the air is CO2" is a rather rash assumption. The more reasonable assumption is that the CO2 meter is showing the progress between no CO2 and maximum non-fatal CO2, which could easily be between 0% and 30% CO2 in the atmosphere.

The devs have gotten a bum rap from armchair scientists as far back as SH3 who don't consider this point.

What would be cool of course is that crew skill, morale, etc would suffer more at high CO2 levels. Can't exactly be shoving in a torpedo into a tube single handed when you're about to pass out.

C:ubisoft/silenthunter5/ whatever. but my version of the game isnt there
its in steam so its in the steam file. But the patch keeps saying no version of the game is installed on my computer.

I purchased my copy of Silent Hunter 5 with real money. I didn't pirate it or download it in part or wholly. So far, every time I have played it, I have been connected to the internet for the entire time. The first time I installed the game, then connected to the internet, it spent probably 20 minutes getting "upgrades" before finally firing up the intro movie.

My question is this...Do I need to download a patch to fix up Ubisoft's "errors" (read bug fix) or are they automatically detected and installed each time I connect to the internet to play? I don't mean downloading the work of some hard working modder who has added special effects, or increased or enhanced the sim by giving it extra gauges, easier interface etc. I mean Ubisoft's attempts to repair what gamers have perceived as "bugs" or errors.

I got the d2d release of this game and it says its version 1.0.5. Ive downloaded the patch from ubi and it says I dont have the right version of the game.
So I did some browsing and people said it should auto update which it doesnt. Ive even run the gameupdater in the main directory and all that does is bring up the screen that looks like its gonna update then the game just loads as usual and its still 1.0.5?
Ive turned off my firewall and vscan still with no success.
Im out of ideas at this point. The only thing I can think is I gotta wait for d2d to release their patch til then im just smashing my face into my desk lol.

This is strange. The game should patch properly with the next patch anyway. Shouldn't be long. In the meantime, just mod away like the rest of us.
