I was looking at SH5 on Steam and D2D. On Steam is says it will be available in a little over 24 hours, putting it at close to 7:00 PM EST. Is this for everywhere? If I get the Gold Version on Direct 2 Drive, can I start the download at midnight?
Thanks
Chris

The release dates are different per region, as far as I know the 'official' release date for US is 2nd March and for Europe is either 4th or 5th March. But it seems it's been available in the shops since 28th in Canada.
27th even (called the store that day and it was there, but didn't manage to get out and grab it till next morning).
This really varies. I've seen it go up and down. From my experience with Steam sales back during the holidays, the usually have their system rollover at 12pm (that is noon) Eastern US time. Ubi seems to follow something different and I've usually seen their stuff pop up anywhere between morning and evening on the same day (that's how I got SHIV).
But yeah, tomorrow is the North American release day, officially.
I'm planning to start the download on Tuesday morning.
Same here. It basically comes down to whatever digital download company has it available to start downloading before I leave for work gets my $$.
Hopefully one of D2D, Steam or Ubi wants my money before I leave for work so I can play when I get home.
If so their countdown is way off, shows 7PM EST for me too.

most releases take place at midnight PST on steam.
Sounds like if you ordered direct from Ubisoft you'll get it after pretty much everyone else in the world. That makes sense. :hmmm:

Guess I'll stay up until midnight CST (GMT -6) and see who, if anyone, has it.

There's this, for what it's worth. No idea if it corresponds to any actual release times for the D/L .

I'm sure their Amazon link is there to make them money on the affiliate program.

Since all the games are listed as xx days 1 hour 11 minutes 50 seconds I think it's just the next day. I doubt that site is getting the secret exact release time to every game.

Yay! I just checked my local gamestop in the US and since they have a midnight opening/event for Bad Company 2, they say just come tonight to pick up a copy. So I will definately have Silent Hunter 5 by exactly 12:01am, March 2nd...which is technically the release date.
Dude, the gamestops in my area have an extremely tiny little rack for computer games.. and they are mostly OLD gamaes. I hate going there. It's like a console orgy. No chance of them ever getting a game like Silent Hunter on the day of release unless you put down money for them to get it for you.
Best Buy & Wal-Mart are the only places with a decent selection around here.
I remember about 10-15 years ago, EB was wall to wall with PC games (And a tiny little rack with Mac games).
It's quite sad actually.

Yah, I know what you mean...I usually go to Best Buy for my PC Gaming needs, but tonight is an exception(since Best Buy isnt open till midnight). And LOL...it is usually a console orgy these days...and I too remember back in the day when PC Gaming had walls devoted to new releases...instead of like one side of a small rack. Plus, a Gamestop employee told me know that now Game Companies only send like 1-2 retail versions to the shop...and the rest have to be preordered; in order for them to have them in stock.

Me too.
I'm looking anxiously for a post that tells when someone has successfully started to download it. But I won't be trying it myself though, I really need to hear some forum member comments first, that the download really works etc.
So please guys, who is the first to initiate digital download? :)

Well, if it does start letting people download then, they have my money, Steam is saying we have to wait another 8 hours.

you dont have to register via a proxy only reason you use a proxy is to purchase the game from direct2drive, all your doing is tricking direct2drive in thinking your purchasing from a United states ip thus getting the cheaper price and earlier release date. Once a game is purchased on your account you can download anywhere in the world automatically ive done this with about 3or 4 games now its a lifesaver sometimes.
And yes i will post immediately if i can download and such, i bought both sh5 and battlefield bad company 2 this way by the way.

Update to what i just said above as i was writing that i was preordering bad company 2 at the same time and i am now downloading it as it has a preload unlike sh5 so yes this technique works no problem at all. Let your know in about half an hour if sh5 is unlocked yet:rock:
