Plastic water, that would be realistic.

yea, Silent hunter has had a water problem...

To be honest, I think sh3s water looked better than SH4s

No way, SH4 was much better. :O:

In your opinion... Sh4s water looked like schrunched up tin foil to me...

That's what I thought too, then I took that tin foil and put it round my head and thus the alien mind control device was thwarted. :shucks:.

Only joking.

You mean the glare off of it with the angles of the waves, etc? I think SH5 will prove to be the same. To my eye after the enviroment was worked on looks quite realistic to me.

I thought SH4's water looked much more real; absolutely real with some of the environment mods.

Until it turned to jello, of course.

That's true, sadly. But one the other hand it had a more believable movement of the waves that seemed to go more in a general direction rather than just be a mess of random bumps and valleys like in SH3. SH4's water textures where also nicer.

I think when it became transparant in SH4, made all the difference.

That wasn't enough to compensate for the ugly jelly effect of the waves, IMHO.
Bump mapping or whatever just made it look so artificial, but also allowed the light and sun effects to work real nice, only thing that it has over SH3 I think.

That was, untill W_clear came along!:D

W_Clear is talking about SH5's water. The water will be different than SH3/SH4. It's only relevant if anyone thinks that SH3 or SH4's water was better than SH5's. Does anyone? :DL

Most of the water I[ve seen on the trailers is better than SH3 & SH4. That is what I find most atractive. I want to see what the water looks like on a clear day around the Azores.

...itīs not about the textures, its about the movement. SH4īs water looks sometimes like wobbly jelly, especially if moving slow.

3..2..1.. we're back in the room... so how about that SH5 water then?

Looks pretty nice to me from screenshots and videos, tho I want to see it first hand.. Of course all SH games had much better environments after modders started learning the tricks.

Yep, hopefully this time, there is scope for different bodies of water, e.g. setting for the med and settings for the atlantic and perhaps the pacific.

The developers learned some new tricks with the SH4 water and a few mods around here. I suspect the water will great. As far as the jelly effect I do not see it now nor ever witnessed it to any degree. At any rate, the mods from W_Clear, Leovampire and I believe Sober really took the water to another level.

Early works:

First attempt by W_Clear here. It was this shot that I notice W_Clear has a great idea of how it works and how it should look. It was from the picture on I watched W_Clear work his magic!
