Hi,
I searched on the forum first but I didn't find the information...
I would like to have more details / videos / screens about the sub base.
I read somewhere that we'll be able to leave the uboot and walk on the dock. A speak with engineers...
That is true ?
Thanks in advance

There was one of the dev videos that showed you walking up to the engineer in the sub pen and using that as your upgrade interface.

I suspect initially you won't be able to walk around anywhere other than the sub pen. In several months or a year, that could very well be different. Opens up whole new lines of thought tho. :hmmm:

After a big and long search, I found this :

So, it look that we can "walk" ... That could be great to do that, to check the sub and the men before a patrol. :)

:nope::nope: the sub and the men will be the same in every patrol:stare: the idea of the game is to go and hunt for the enemy, after you have done that once you will spend you time looking at a nav map or looking through a periscope, whats the excitment:hmmm: unless you do not want to take your new boat out,and scratch it:haha:
Didnt Neal adress this in a small way? I thought he said something like "the interface at the base is restricted, you get to choose weapons etc - like the old days". No real improvment here.
Is it possible to upgrade the first officer with a glas eye?

Why would the player be restricted to only the u-boat pen. We were free to explore the whole harbour in sh-3 right? I mean why go through so much trouble making complete harbours if the player cant explore it.

Where you can or cannot walk around is all conjecture, of course, but, it's unlikely they had the development resources to devote to areas too far away from the sub.

Well i mean only the harbour itself offcourse. I surely dont expect to go visit the eifel tower or anything.

the harbours itself are still empty. no life on the pier...no cars, no men, no life. but maybe this is just a preview mistake.

Right, but they could be added by slightly neurotic people to too much time on their hands. :yeah:
...perhaps for the strange feeling of being on dry land again? :O:

Immersion and roleplaying in a simulation.

Because it's a submarine simulator, not a harbor simulator.

Well it could be like WoW, you walk around showing off your medals. :haha:

So sh-3 and sh-4 was a harbour simulation then? It had a rich and alive harbour.

Yes, but it was just a place to leave and come back to. The only way to view the harbor was from the boat, or with the free camera.
I'd rather see them focus on the submarine part of the simulation, not the walking around before I leave part. If they made it so you could walk around the harbor, and do everything a captain did, why leave out the preparing a patrol report part? Or filing paper work? Or every little detail that doesn't really affect the driving and fighting the sub part of it?
Yeah, the harbour was very much alive! The folks were immune to machingun- and cannonfire.

do not forget the marching bands or whatever that could play 24/7 through rain, sleet or snow!!!.
but in all honesty I would not want to go much further than the sub pen either. as far as my office if that's even included in SH5.
Who knows what modders could come up with , at least its there in the first place .

I can almost garentee that some moder will come up with a whorehouse.

That's a long walk, several miles at least. Probably better to drive.:D

Nah, it'll end up right across the street. But we can make vroom vroom noises and pretend we drove there.

I'd prefer to actually drive. Imagine walking through the "fireboat drill"!

After I checked out some of the nurses in GWX's harbors I looked for a bar. Seriously I spent a game night just setting out in real time. Had a great time looking at the ships in home port, seeing a Battle Cruiser at anchor and see it slowly fade into the distance was just damn cool.

And don't forget the practice dives to see how efficient your crew is.
