View Full Version : Contents of the boxed UK editions

There was a Ubisoft link that said what the contents were, but it seems different to the contents stated on the Amazon UK webiste. For example, the collector's edition picture shows a soundtrack on CD and also the game, but the Ubi contents said it would have a documentary included. Two discs only would seem to imply that the documentary isn't included in the UK version? So what else is different?

Does anyone know for sure what the different versions for UK will contain? The online websites either don't list the contents o don't list a full contents, or perhaps they do and the UK version is missing stuff?

And yes, I know both editions will contain DRM, so I don't need to be told ;-).

I think the UK "limited edition" version has the soundtrack, the official guide, the 7 ship/sub skins, the map, the manual & the tin box also remember the UK version is physical ie on disc with printed manuals while the US Gokl edition is a download with pdf manuals etc. The game requires 10-15GB HDD space so it probably will need the 2 DVDs all to itself.

The UK Deluxe edition also seems to be exclusive to Amazon UK. It recently went down in price from £40.99 to £30.99 so it's quite a good buy now. Remember you can order Amazon UK stuff through the Subsim store (http://www.subsim.com/store_uk.html) & a little commision feeds back to Neal to help keep Subsim running.

Why are there so many Versions ?

SH4 all over again. :nope:

There should be a Regular version and a Limited Edition available EVERYWHERE.

I don't know. So far we have:

Silent Hunter V (Boxed)
Silent Hunter V (Boxed) (US Version)
Silent Hunter V Limited Edition (Boxed)
Silent Hunter V Collector's Edition (Boxed)
Silent Hunter V (Download)
Silent Hunter V Gold Edition (Download)

It's getting a bit difficult to know for sure what I'm actually buying.

Maybe the documentary is only available in the US version, as it's about a US Submarine. The US ubi site is just awful.

Well, sorry to say I only care about the Game DVD itself, IMO the rest of the package is just fluff. :D

How will UBI prevent people from extracting the "exclusive" sub-skins? After all, this was easy with 3/4 and 5 is supposed to be easier still to mod.

Silent Hunter V (Download)

Just checked the ubi digital store, the download versions are only for US and Canada?? A credit card and internet is all that's needed so whats the restriction about?

Maybe they have encryped the *.DDS files with something so that if the OSP detects them in a non-gold edition install, your IP is Perma-banned from the OSP servers :O: :D
Heheh - though that wouldnt work as you can just screen grab and paste a texture file to a new document and save with the same name & format.

I'm glad I have the one from AOD. It was a copy of a real Kriegsmarine map.

I don't know... what restriction are you talking about? You mean people outside of the US can't buy a download version? Isn't there a D2D version for Europe?

Or, perhaps more to the point, will the integration of these "limited edition" units affect moddability? That is, will modders with the limited edition have to always remember to remove references to the exclusive units before they release their mods, considering that most players will just have the standard edition?

Will modders without the limited edition units effectively mute them because mods they release won't consider, or include, the limited edition units?

Will releasing mods based on the limited edition crash for players without the limited edition because they don't have the units installed?

Will someone inadvertently release the limited edition units to everyone in a mod, thus making their exclusivity only temporary, and thus expensive?

By restrictions I mean, it says this product is only sold in US and Canada.
There are 2 versions at UBI digital store, one a regular Download and the other the Gold Edition Download. Both have them say only for US/Can.

I might be missing something, because this doesn't sound logical, a download version should be available to purchase from anywhere in the world. Let me check again.

There's different laws covering different parts of the world. You can't have the Nazi flag in an 'entertainment product' unless it is a historical documentary in Europe. In the US you can, so their ships will have the Nazi flag on them and the Europe version won't. There's also the other reason of charging $40 for one region, €40 for another, £40 for a third and AUS $80 for a fourth region.

Right, I forgot about the Nazi stuff.
Hmm, so it looks like no download option for Europe.. If anybody comes across this, please post.

Hang on a second, there is no law in the UK that says you can't have a swastika included with entertainment products. So we can't say for sure that every other country in Europe, unlike the UK, has laws saying you can't either.

From my knowledge it is Germany where this is most prevelant and I'm sure in other european countries, but the UK is a part of Europe where I am certain there is no law saying we can't have swastikas in games.

In saying this, I'm going to be really annoyed if I buy my UK edition and find out that the swastika has been removed out of political correctness.

Political correctness = historical innaccuracy.

UK doesn't have a ban, but other countries in the EU do, as you say. Modern games tend to be be packaged for markets, like US/Canada, Europe and AsiaPac and have the same content - e.g. manuals (or leaflets) in multiple languages, so they can ship them anywhere within that market. It helps to reduce cost, as you don't need to produce as many versions. I may be wrong, but I think SH5 in the UK, will not have a swastika in it. The UK version of SH3 didn't have it - the Bismark had just a red strip with a white circle, sort of made it look like an inverse japanese flag. There were mods made to re-introduce them.

Sigh, now have to pretend the nazis didn't exist and instead we were fighting the 'Inverted Japanese Alliance'. :yeah:

Did any of Silent Hunter 3, Silent Hunter 4, or the U-Boat missions expansions have swastikas, in any edition? Not that I recall, as a matter of fact I'm using a swastika mod in my current US version SH4/Op Monsun installation right now.
