Hi
Further to the link posted on the main subsim page about the Gold Edition i have a couple of questions.
1) Why does it show a release date of 31/3???
2) Can we get the SH5 pdf guide anywhere else?
Thanx

Not available in Europe. Grrr! Looks like the hard copy of the guide is in the Collector's Edition - not available in North America and the PDF version is in the digital download Gold Edition - available only in North America. Personally, I think you guys got the better end of the deal. :-?

If you wait till march 31th, and if UBI has their way you just may NOT want SHV in the first place. Unless you like being dictated how and when to play your game?
Choice is yours.

I wonder what they mean by "famous allied ships" or "famous non-playable subs", Surely they are the same 3d model of their class of ship, what can be the difference other than, when you look at the map, they are named "specially"...
There really are a some fascinating marketing geniuses at Ubi. :haha:
Additional Gold Edition Features:
Includes three famous non-playable historical U-Boats:
U-99 (type VIIB) – submarine of U-boat ace Otto Kretschmer
U-30 (type VIIA) – submarine of U-boat ace Fritz Lemp
U-552 (type VIIC) – submarine of U-boat ace Erich Topp
Includes four famous Allied ships:
HMS Duke of York (King George V battleship class) – the ship responsible for sinking the German battlecruiser Scharnhorst and carrying Churchill to America in one occasion.
HMS Walker (V&W destroyer class) – ship commanded by Donald Macintyre during the battle for convoy HX112 which led to the capture of top U-boat ace Otto Krestschmer (U-99) and death of U-boat ace Joachim Shepke (U-100)
HMS Stork (Black Swan sloop class) –flagship of the famous commander Walker, leading the 2nd Support Group flotilla assigned to U-boat hunting
HMS Suffolk (Kent cruiser class) –famous British cruiser involved in the battle of Norway and the sinking of the German battleship Bismarck

110-page pdf guide detailing the crew, submarines, ships, and weapons of Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic.

Not if you don't read it.

I was wondering about this too. A skin is a skin is a skin....I'm sure people will be making new skins starting day one. Why would I pay $10 more just to get something that I'll probably have for free very soon after release? Unless these units act differently in-game or something, I don't see the point.

Well it just can't be a simple skin. It might somehow be connected to various events in the campaign.. But if so, why is it only in the edition called GOLD. Plus why would Topp's or Lemp's boat have their own skin, their own special paintjob..
All these interesting questions shall find answers soon I guess..

They'll signify Elite rated crews. I hope you don't mean you'll be getting the skins supplied with the collector's / gold edition for free :DL, but other skins.

That's exactly what I meant. :yep: I'm sure someone will come up with an even better looking U-552 skin anyways.

They're the same 7 that are in the Collector's Edition - if you look at the Collector's Edition screenshots (posted elsewhere on this forum) they are of the same U-boats/ships (in case it's not visually obvious, just have a look at the file properties as the ship names are part of the file names).
Undoubtedly just skins for existing models, marketed as something more than what they really are. It's possible that the skins come with adjusted "special hit point levels" and in game behaviour and scripting, but certainly nothing that modders won't be able to do for free (remembering how moddable the game is claimed to be)...
