I've seen some pictures around here with lifeboats in them.

Did someone make a lifeboat mod?

The one I know of is called Lifeboats & Debris IIRC.

Probably if you just search Downloads for "lifeboats" you'll find what you're looking for.

OK thanks I found the lifeboats&debris v4. Is that the latest version of it? I can't wait to have lifeboats in my game!

This works with GWX, right?

Right. But it's bugged a bit. I mean, lifeboats in v4.0 have some velocity, and because of that, they "jump" unnaturaly on high waves.

I would like to recommend v3B. Only difference, comparing with 4.0 is these lifeboats are not moving, and acting normaly even at stormy weather.

Ultimately, it's Your choice. :)

I think I'd rather them float right and not move. They are in shock and not yet rowing. :)

Have you sailed close to them yet to hear them shouting for help? Always quite satisfying....

There is an addon to the mod with rowers for the lifeboats.

Here's a nice shot of a 10,000 tonner I sunk in the strait of Dover near the start of my patrol today. You can see one of the lifeboats and the detail in it quite well. JSGME reports it as Lifeboats&Debris_v4

I also notice that there is something called:

"Webster's Real Lifeboats Fix for v1.4 and v1.5 (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=487): Webster's Real Lifeboats Fix for v1.4 and v1.5"

Is this meant to go with V4 or V3?

Webster's Lifeboat Fix is for SH4 only. It doesn't affect the lifeboats in SH3, and might actually cause problems. Lifeboats came stock with SH4, but they row way too fast. That's what Webster's Fix fixes.

According to Rubini's readme, Version 3 also has the 'floating' problem:

Technical problems?

1.The floating objects do not behave perfectly when in big waves (sh3 engine limitation), nothing we can do.

A new version was being worked on a long time ago, I think by Privateer. It would have had the actual boats in it, as well as rafts.

Lifeboats And Debris for SH3 can be found here:

LOL, it would be fun to have them curse at you. :)

Should V4 be installed when in harbour or can it be enabled anytime during a patrol? Also, I noticed that there is a folder called "GWX-buoyancy and draught" in the Optional folder, any idea what this does?

There should be a readme in the zip file that explains everything

The range to a ship relies upon the height of the ship's mast above the waterline; this mod is ment to correct errors in the mast height.

I see, has this issue been fixed with GWX 3.0? I assumed this mod was meant for GWX 2.x.

I don't use the optional mod, and I've had no problems, except for the sea rising through the bottom of the rafts, which, let's be honest, is less of a problem than the sea coming right over your head when your on the bridge, but you can still see the watch crew glued to there binocs.

Apparently, there are still some problems with 3.0 in this regard, altholugh I may be wrong about this.
I don't think this was fixed in GWX3.0.
In any event, the error is very small and probably of no significance, except for very long shots.
If you attack under 1,000 meters, the error of range is so small as to make little or no difference, and I have not had a problem at 100% realism with unexplained misses.
