On patrol in the Irish Sea in Oct. 1940.
A small two ship convoy comes into view, U 73 submerged and stalked.
Turns out the first ship is a American small merchat lit up with flag flying-Ok.
The next ship in line is an unlit Granville freighter flying an American flag.
Like Empire freighters I assumed that the Granville was always a Brit ship.
Was this a ruse or are there actually American Granvilles?
I did not torp the Granville, but let it pass.
I use GWX 3.0.
Thanks for any info.

I imagine that for the game whatever the flag says is what it is.

I know the US was providing war materials for the Brits under the Lend Lease act. Perhaps that was reciperacal and some of the British equipment was sent over to the Americans? A form of colatoral? Or, perhaps, the ships were handed over to better facilitate the rapid transit of men and material.

It is also not outside the relm of posibility that an American shiping company needed more ships and so perchased an English ship for a return trip. I could see that hapening and sence the ship is now owned by an American shiping company it would have to be flaged as an American vesil as per maritime law.

I guess you could always chance a hit to your renown and sink one. :arrgh!:
If it's a neutral it will show up in your patrol stats as such.

In-game ships are not absolutely nation-specific. Any type of ship can appear flying any type of flag, if it is included in that nation's 'Roster' folder.

If you look in the Data/Roster/Sea/American folder (or any other), you will see a list of all the ships used by that nation in the game.
