There have been two games I have previewed, that I can use the word "stunned" to describe how I felt about them. One of them, is about to debut.

5 years ago at Gamers Developers Conference I had the opportunity to put my hands on a forthcoming release. The mechanics of the game was soon impressive, I ended up doing an interview and a feature on the game.

And now, it has a release date.:woot:

Alan Wake, billed as a psychological thriller, is to finally make a worldwide release this May. At one time a multi platform project, it is now only planned for release on XBox 360.

This game was so impressive, I'll probably buy an XBox just for this game.

But for now, I already have the tshirt...unworn from 5 years ago.

awww, shame it's only 360, wasn't it originally going to be PS3 exclusive? Or was that something else?

Anyway I'm eagerly awaiting delivery of Heavy Rain :D

Ah well. A shame, that. I remember seeing something about this years ago and it looked interesting.

This is the second reason I got a 360. Although I hope I can finish it. I tend to creep myself out of certain games. :haha:

it was originally PC exclusive, to show the power of DirectX 10 cards and QuadCore CPU's ;)

My brother rented it yesterday, just started today while I waited to go to the dentist. Looks interesting so far :hmmm:

So is it worth the 60?

I personally don't think it's worth buying. Don't get me wrong, I liked it, but it's short and I'm not sure how much replayability it has :hmmm: Definitely worth renting though.

I guess I'll keep an eye on the DLC that comes out. If it's all free( like the first one is) I'll pick it up. If not I'll wait until it's cheaper.

Well, I just picked up Alan Wake, after canceling my Mafia 2 collectors edition.

Going to play later tonight. :yeah:

There we go:
Alan Wake PC: Really Real, Early 2012 (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/12/14/alan-wake-pc-really-real/)

The PC version will include both The Signal and The Writer downloadable content. As for why Rememdy changed their mind about the PC edition of the game, here’s their explanation: “We weren’t going to release a PC version… then we took***65279; an arrow to the knee.” Can’t argue with that.

haha that's about right for a '360 exclusive'

The game was pretty good. The gameplay mechanics are pretty solid, and the enemies can be difficult. The whole light thing to make enemies vulnerable is an interesting mechanic.

In terms of scares, there are a few good ones(I don't think there are any pop up scares that I remember). It's mostly environmental horror, and the fear of the enemies(if you're out of ammo or light it's one of those OMG OMG OMG I need to get away moments).

One of the better scares is when you enter a log cabin, and you turn around and leave and something zooms by the door. :dead:

One of the neat features is that there is a TV show that mimics The Twilight zone that gave me creeps(probably because I was watching them in Dark rooms mostly :haha:)

All in all it's a pretty good game, the atmosphere matches that of Max Payne(the first one).

P.S. there is a pretty good rock band in the game, I can't remember if they made music just for the game, or if they found a small band. I'll have to look into it.

Are the controls as horrible as they are in any other console-to-pc port made during this generation?

Just started playing this morning so about an hr into the game not as scary as I expected it to be maybe its to early in the game. Story wise its turning out to be a masterpiece :D
Controls are fine, default keys - WSAD to move round, E use, R reload, shift run etc., You can key bind in the options menu and an option to use a controller. Slight annoying thing for me is the character to the right (or left) of the screen like mass effect.

Oh the DLC comes with the pc version (episodes) Signal and The Writer, I decided to try out one of them before and not only did it tell part of the main story ending from the original game :damn: but it overwrites my saved point from the original game :damn::damn: So I had to start from an earlier save point which was way back. Pressing esc doesn't cancel when the story is audio in your face explaining what happened at the end of the original story, no I didn't even think to turn down the volume & look away I just kinda blankly stared at the screen thinking OMG Alan Wake has just trolled me good! lol

Just a warning don't try out the DLC till after the main game is completed. :88)

Yes, DLC usually should be played after the main story.

Silly you. :O:

Story is incoherent really, but the game is perfectly serviceable and, more importantly, enjoyable. Even with the recap after the first chapter I was left a bit confused. Not a feeling of wonder fueled by curiosity, just a bit confused.

Reviewer is rather critical, but there's one key thing to take away from it:

It is good to see it on PC, it is worth experiencing and with its raft of new graphical options, adjustable FOV and everything, it’s certainly a conversion that’s done the work.

I think if you go into it with an open mind you'll enjoy it. If you go into it with the 2 year old hype in the back of your mind you'll probably be disapointed.

The frights all I can do is laugh while shooting the taken, out of ammo and having to run to the nearest light should cause me to freak out a bit oh and the dark scary houses ive been in. Nothing. I think for me the 3rd person killed it. Alan Wake is no Amnesia dark descent I don't know about anyone else but that game truly scare the hell out of me, took me ages to finish it:har:

Alan Wake is a Max Payne thriller with a cool story played out like a tv series and don't forget to watch the Night Springs!
