Will we get a daily poll in 7 days time: "With 7 days to go..."? :hmmm:

HundertzehnGustav
02-19-10, 07:07 PM
and thats just what it is all about.

lock the 3 week poll, here comes the 2 week poll.

it goes for 7 days.

then we do the last week poll.

on day of release, we compare the evolution.

on an nice excel sheet.

I thought this was the old poll :O:

Whether opinions change, we shall see. Mine has changed, from the info I've found I can say DRM/OSP/Uplay (notice how the Ubies been changing names in a short period of time?) Suxxxx with more EXXXs as we discover more.

I don't think that ever in the history of marketing has a business tried to launch product features into such an antaqgonistic market.

Has Ubi never heard the golden rule that the customer is always right?

Where's the 1am poll? Will it be posted soon, or should we just vote twice in the 2am poll? This is important.

Still not going to purchase it, I'll avoid purchasing anything that has UBISOFT on the product in the future. Sorry but I will not support game publishers that goes to such extremes. Even if they revert to what they previously used on their products, I'll still be wary of purchasing.

A part of me is hoping that the gaming industry in it's current state dies a slow agonizing death.

The gaming industry should go back to its roots.

so you propose someone elses thread be closed so yours can take its place?

i can follow the reasoning but you are awful presumptuos to take it upon yourself to decide someone elses thread is no longer relevent.

by the same reasoning i should close this thread for being redundent and pointless.

so whats next, is someone going to do a daily poll and tell me i can close this one then someone else can do an hourly poll until the release.

This Poll makes the mistake of giving us TWO question types to which we can only answer one.

It doesn`t make sense.

Oh wait- I just noticed I can make more than one answer- ok then!

Webster...

i have nothing against Brags other, first, poll. i dont care should it be open or closed.

But he started to gather info, 3 weeks before.
To check the evolution of the Opinions, people should be able to post their opinion once a week, every week in a different one.

In the politics area we see the same!

3 weeks before the elections people are asked for their opinion.
-you want bush or you want obama?

2 weeks before the elections:
-you want bush or you want obama?

1 week before the elections, again the same question:
-bush or obama?

But in order to get the data and the results right, the stacks of forms have to be on their respective piles: 3,2,1, weeks before the elections.

The best and most effective way to prevent multiple voting in the polls, is to lock the old Thread, and only keep the newest one active.

OR - if you find a way to lock the old POLL, but keep the THREAD open for discussion, that would be perfect. But i doubt the Boards tools allow that to be done.

- maybe there is a misunderstanding at this exact level? me requesting his Thread shut? Not really - i would like the Poll to be shut, but i said THREAD, because i doubt you have a way to close only the Poll.
I lack knowledge of Admin tools.:06:

His old poll is relevant, to show the opinions 3 weeks before Day X.
This poll reunites the Opinions 2 weeks before day X.
A third poll will reunite Opinions 1 week before day X.

Proper results demand that only the current poll be open for Voting.:hmmm:

----------------------------------------------------------------

Its not about MY thread vs Brags Thread. Me being more important than him. The egotrip thing. Not at all!:nope:

Its about closing one poll (to prevent continued votes) and uniting the current opinions in a current poll.

This Thread, as you have seen, is the continuation of Brags poll, wich i find fantastic, and would like to keep his project going.:ping:

It does not matter wether Brag does it or I do it. (maybe i started this poll only minutes before he would have started it? Maybe he is offline today and CAN not start this poll? who knows?)

You might put his name right behind the title, or edit the first post, i wouldnt mind. As a matter of Fact, all i did was copypaste his own words; *I* didnt do any thinking at all.
Its HIS Project if you ask me.
I just take care of it because i am interested in the results.:|\\

-----------------------------------------------------------

And no - "3 weeks before", "2 weeks before", "1 week before" is all i can think of that would get any useful votes at all and allow drawing any conclusions.

:salute:

A gentleman just pointed out a Mistake of mine...

With all the bad things said about SHV, DRM, online only. I fear that this could be the beginning Of the end, will Ubisoft make a Subsim again? I cannot see how sales world wide Will be that good. And all the polls on subsim does not look that good for the out come of the game.

Nordmann
02-20-10, 09:50 PM
My intentions are the same as before, until this online requirement is scrapped, I will stick with SH4 + UBM + Mods. However you try to dress it up, this DRM is an affront to PC gamers and the sub-simmer community as a whole.

Schultzy
02-21-10, 01:24 AM
I really want to like this game, and while I have a few worries about what this game is really going to play like, they would not have stopped me from trying it and maybe even liking it. However, the DRM prevents me from being able to buy it in the first place.

So intentions remain the same: I won't be purchasing it and the game will remain one I wish I could have tried.

Kaleun Klink
02-21-10, 02:47 AM
I'm in the same boat as Schultzy: the always-on Internet connection DRM won't work for me, so adios, SHV -- that's another lost sale, Ubisoft!

Vikinger
02-21-10, 04:12 AM
I dont care about that DRM. I use to play online games most of the times and are used to it.
I also have broadband connection that let me stay online 24h.

So i look forward to a new release of SH.

If it was just Ubi's console ports I could live without them. I'm sure Assassin's Creed 2 and newest Splinter Cell will be good games, but I could manage to boycott them. I did it with Modern Warfare 2 afterall. The problem is that Ubi is releasing Silent Hunter and Settlers 7 in march and they own Heroes of Might and magic and Anno IPs. Those are some of my favorite franchises of all time, not to mention that they also own Massive Entertainmet, one of best strategy genre developers around. As much as I hate the new DRM scheme I just could imagine missing out an all those games. I've played around with early SH5 versions for previews I was writing and yes, the system was annoying, but more on principles alone, than actual downraged user experience.
So I will just grind my teeth and live with it.

jwilliams
02-21-10, 04:41 AM
Im starting to lean towards buying SH5. If Neal's review is favorable, then i will give Ubi and thier OSP the benefit of the doubt.

IF the OSP proves to be troublesome then Ubi will lose my custom until OSP is no longer used. BUT if it works then Ubi will have my surport.

Im sure SH5 is not perfect and it was never going to please everyone. But during the last week, the more I see (thanks for the vids Neal.), the more I read (thx everyone for your info) and with the promise from the devs that this is gonna be easier to mod than previous Silent Hunters, Then i think SH5 will be bought and played by me.

My opinion hasn't changed really, if I can play it without the DRM/OSP (don't care how) I will purchase it!:yep:

The more I read about DRM/OSP/Uplay, the worse this bothersome system appears to me. Ubi is not getting any money from me unless they get rid of this infection.

02-21-10, 02:08 PM
UbiSoft has passed crush depth. Clearly the people making decisions there would be seriously challenged in a game of "Find Your Foot". I'm not buying anything they publish so long as this idiotic DRM requirement is forced on the customers. This applies to any other publisher trying to pull this stunt off as well (such as Take Two).

The Enigma
02-21-10, 02:48 PM
I haven't changed my mind.
Without the OSP/U-P(L)ay I would buy the game asap.
So let's sit and play SH3 while waiting for the big SH5 patch :88)

I hate DRM. I believe DRM only punishes the buyer, not the pirate. It always has been the case. The same with DVD movies with all the darn previews, trailers and warnings which are pointless because only the legitimate buyer sees them.

However, the issue is that I want to play these DRM games, so I am forced to suffer DRM or not play these great games.

The Pirates almost always bring out their DRM-Free games before the game stores bring out the legitimate versions, and I'd be surprised if this new DRM changes that. So again, the legitimate buyers will suffer later release dates, and pay for DRM that makes the game experience less enjoyable, while the Pirates simply enjoy the game.

Doesnt make a lot of sense to me and seems more like encouragement to Pirate.
