Am I doing something wrong, because when my sub gets a small leak, nobody doesn't want to fix it, and soon my sub is full of water. And then we are at bottom of the sea.

So, is the game just realistic, because my damage control team's priority is the room where teh leak is, but still my sub always gets full of clear, nonalcoholic liquid. Can you help me? I'm tired of getting sank all the time...

Btw, I am using Operation Monsoon, but I have the same problem without any mods.

Takes time to repair the bulkhead and then pump water out.You can fight sinking by using speed. If flooding is forward and you have a down angle by the bow, go to back emergency speed and hit A key to level off at depth, should keep you from sinking while repairs are going on. Realistic Repair time is an option in the options menu, things are easier repaired if it is enabled.

If your headed for the bottom.

Don't forget you can blow those tanks. In the game you can stop yourself from surfacing when blowing the tanks. Just be careful not to surface, get about 150ft, you have to hit the dive planes or cut speed to stop from surfacing. Course you'll head for the bottom again and have to repeat. I only do this when nothing else works.

Still, do what bubble said first to see if you can hold. I usually try to stay even depth in this order, speed, changing from ahead to reverse depending on angle of the sub, blowing tanks...Also in SH4 using the periscope depth button will often bring you up when just trying to manually change depth won't...Using those or a combination of all is sometimes needed. We call it the old "Pacific Two Step". I've held my depth before with my sub almost vertical in the water. If your badly damaged, you may be able to buy enough time to get things fixed.

Worse case, I just blow tanks and surface. I may try to shoot the charge racks off then go back down and try again...Nothings worse than having several escorts on you and your sub won't hold depth, but you can survive.

Silly question but do you have any personell in the damage control slots?

On my boats I have to shuffle sailors around from one slot .. say fwd torpedo room to the damage control stations as usually they are unoccupied.

Yes, I have repair guys working. But when they are working, their priority is the compartment itself, not bulkhead. Should the bulkhead be repaired first? Repairing the entire room takes alot of time, and when the time compression isnt available when near bottom etc.

Grap the bulkhead and move it to the top of the list, it will have priority.

You can see all the compartments as they flood with water as the flood levels raise, if you put the mouse arrow on the compartment it will tell you how long to repair and how long it will take for it to flood. Obvious if it's flooding faster that you can repair it that compartment will flood totally out, so check each one that has damaged and repair them in the order starting with the worse one. Next important is the trim pump and hydraulics, anything to do with pumping water and keeping your boat in trim.

Don't forget to fill the Damge Control with a good leader and good repairmen, really makes a time difference.

is it some kind of cruel joke from the SH4 developers that when I have damage that the fricking ice-cream machine is always high on the priority list?:damn:

I found that the subs in SHIV lost 100% integrity for compartments far far far more often than the SHIII subs (no idea wich is more realistic)

But it means those back from the grave moments are rarer in SHIV.

I sat for 24 hours on the bottom racing against the clock to beat flooding and then finally getting engine repairs done so we could get off the deck in SHIII it was a real "Das Boot" moment.

I find however that hitting a subnet at 1knot in SHIV causes 100% damage, and if your not on the surface your dead, its just a matter of waiting for the inevitable.

So far the only real fun moment I had in SHIV with damage was when a Blenheim caught me and destroyed a rear compartment on my 7B.
At flank speed I managed to stay afloat although my back end stayed under water, and was making my way home.

Unfortunatly it was daylight and some 30 fighter attacks later I went down and never came back up.

But that was rare, ussually its "plonk" ooops sorry captain I dropped my pen and destroyed the hull.

then we sink and never ever come back up. I wonder if the hull is too weak, or the flooding too rapid ?

Or perhaps it is more realistic.. who knows.

Some mods have addressed the Battle Ship sturdiness of the stock subs in SH4.

Thats not what I meant, specifically flooding seems to cause death in ways not dreamt of in SHIII.

As for the super strong subs of stock :) the operation monsun mod fixed that lol, just surfaced not realising they had a gun on the back of the freighter.

lost the entire command crew instantly.
