View Full Version : Can someone please divert me to the following mods? (sorry if in wrong section)

Greetings again.

First, apologies if this is in the wrong section but as I know some of you fairly well in this section I thought it better to post this here,if it needs to go in the mods section then please re divert it accordingly.
As I am moments away from starting my new campaign in GWX3 I feel I need a good flags and UBoat emblems mod.I cant remember if GWX3 includes this as default but either way a good (preferably the most current) set of mods dealing with this would be great. The main concern is with the deck insignia for the Bismarck for example,as in the stock game the swastika is clearly censored. This should not be the case naturally. And also some of the ship flags look somewhat blurred and not of a high quality like some of the mods are.

I would also like to get hold of a good mod that removes the metal rim from around the scopes just leaving a black space instead.

Also, the torpedo damage mod too would be great.

The main reason I am asking is because recently I suffered a major data loss on one of my external hard drives erasing all my mods, not just for this game but for many others :dead:
I am in the process of trying to get all those files back again.

If you can help me comrades it would be greatly appreciated.
:salute:

might be an inside-joke in Britain?

I still dont see the significance between Sheffield and me posting a valid question about Silent Hunter III.I have lived in Sheffield all my life and I never considered it to appear amusing, its a place in northern England,is this the joke?.Nope, dont get it,sorry.
Let me just say Sheffield is a magnificent place, much like the north of england in general, and would sooner live up here than anywhere down south, the people are friendlier and more down to earth, with a proud history also.

I seriously dislike people trying to appear clever and think they know it all by making random wisecracks.
Sorry if this appears extreme, but yes,i'm quite offended.I asked a simple question because I want to get some of my old mods back after losing all my data a while ago, ideally I wanted links to the mods ,not some smart arse trying to bring 'Sheffield' into the equation?
Someone PLEASE enlighten me on this VERY confusing situation!

I think it could be a rivalry, like college football in America (Ohio State and University of Michigan is one of the biggest rivalrys). I go for U of M, and we hate anyone for Ohio State. That could be it.

Well if this is a joke i'd seriously start buying some decent 'how to tell good jokes' books because this has to be the worst ive EVER heard.
Its pretty clear Mr Wolf you dislike people from the north of England, and let me say the feeling would be mutual regarding people south of the border (dont get me started on this!) ,not all but most

In the meantime, thanks for the help on my original question :down:
Sorry to the rest who may have wanted to help.

I have used subsim for a while now and had some interesting moments in here, but this has to be the first time i've got caught up in heated debate about Sheffield. You ought to pay a visit sometime, the scenery is fantastic, you can find a decent boozer almost anywhere, and we do the finest knuckle sandwich in the land for those looking for one :|\\ (no,I dont smoke)

(end of rant...hopefully)

Look, just tell me,because this is pissing me off big time now, what is funny about Sheffield? :stare: i'm serious now pal,no joke.
If it wasnt for Sheffield you could have kissed your arses down south because there would have been hardly any steel to carry the war on!,you ever heard of 'steel city'?,did it ever occur to you why Sheffield was called that?
In my opinion I would have let the Germans sieze the southern ports,no skin off my nose :haha:

Oh there is a rivalry alright,I just didnt want to get into that sort of thing in a forum that is supposed to discuss UBoat warfare (odd)

@Paul...keep a cool head matey, one can only presume there is a rational reason for the reference to your home city.

My nearest city is Newcastle and we've been the butt of many a joke over the years.

I notice your protaganist has gone in a timely/convenient fashion.

Beware of what could be behind the curtain....or monitor on this occasion :DL

@ Paul Riley: Since it was Grey Wolf 3 who pointed you to the Downloads section in the first time, and you did say "Hmm,would never have thought of looking there.", which I thought was rather funny because I love self-deprecating humor, maybe he thought it was an invitation to poke fun at you.

Perhaps you could take it in a lighter vein?

@ Grey Wolf 3: Since Mr. Riley is obviously not amused, perhaps it's time to apologize rather than antagonize.

To be fair, if you go to the downloads section there's a message bar at the top of the page that says

Disabled: SUBSIM Downloads is undergoing routine maintenance, check back later.

so it's not unthinkable that someone would see that and, uh, come back here asking about specific mods that they thought were currently unavailable to download from Subsim (but for which there might be other links at, say, FileFront or some such).

Altho I just tried to download something from there and it seemed to work okay - at least I was able to click all the way through until I got the popup dialog box with download/open/save options or whatever it is. I wonder if that message is a relic from the recent server switch or other issues?

In an effort to get this thread back on topic:

@ Paul: Once the SH3 downloads section is back online (which should be soon), there is a graphics mods section. Anything that you want that Subsim has is there.

Edit: Actually, it is back up right now.

I tell you what,in all fairness and honesty,i'm too long in the tooth to be bothered about such trivial things now,i'm almost bloody 36!,and this behaviour reminds me of the school playground. My only gripe and frustration was with the reference to Sheffield,it was confusing and actually quite antagonistic :-?
This then,is the end of my retaliation, and I just want to get back to UBoat warfare discussion.
Thanks for the help towards the end of the post.

Before I go though, what IS wrong with Sheffield,i'm still at a loss.I think Yorkshire has some cracking places to visit.

Paul I've just thought...I'm passing through your area tomorrow before I start a 3 day work committment in Manchester.

Q: Do you know of a decent model shop in your city that stocks 1/700 IJN warship models manufactured by the likes of Tamiya, Aoshima, Fujimi and Hasegawa...by any chance?

Oh and as a small point of interest....Corus steelworks on Teesside closed down Friday gone, ending a 170 year history of steelmaking in the area. It is estimated over 4000 people will eventually lose their jobs as a result :nope:

Well Jim,

I am afraid I dont know any of the model shops you are asking about, the closest I would have said would have been 'Beaties' if ever you have heard of that brand, but I dont think they operate anymore, they used to sell all manner of modelling kits especially for tabletop wargames, including paints, modelling equipment.Your best bet would be to do all that online, there will be a specialist shop SOMEWHERE catering for that,or you could pay a visit to York instead?,because they still have functioning armouries that make custom swords, armour etc etc,for local Viking battle displays, there may be a shop that sells model ships and stuff.York is fantastic for finding unique gifts etc.
As for the steel issue its a bloody shame,we used to have tons of steelworks in Sheffield, but as you can imagine as the market is changing they are all disappearing resulting in more miserable people without work.My dad used to be a welder that made steel plating for ships ironically, and was made redundant about 20yrs or so ago, when Maggie was in power.

No prob Paul, I'm catching up on the weather in the area and wondering if I'll drive now....might catch a train :hmmm:

I spent a 3 year stint living in Sheffield, well Mosborough which is on the outskirts. I remember my first few days there with random strangers saying morning, afternoon and evening, being from London it was all quite alien to me, lol. I really enjoyed my time there and met some nice genuine people and going down to West Street and East Street (the two roads that run parallel?) for a night out at the bars was cool. We used to start at the City Hall end and make our way along, don't think I ever stayed sober enough to visit the bars at the other end....

My girlfriend worked at the Hallamshire hospital and although I've now returned to London, I'd happily live there again amongst it's friendlier, down to earth people but you'd have to remove my now ex-girlfriend first as she was the reason I both moved to and moved away from there, seeing as she was a psycho b*tch. And I did almost get run over by a tram on more than one occasion...

Careful mate ,we got hammered with the snow again so driving may be treacherous depending where you are coming from,M1 may be clear though.Good luck pal!

@Damo
Hey thats great that you know Sheffield city centre,my house is about 20mins walk from West Street. That place is crawling with pubs and bars, and yes,the tram is a bloody nightmare!

See...Sheffield is a great place folks! :woot:

Got back 7pm last night having decided to take a chance with the prevailing weather conditions and deciding not to chance my luck too much by travelling direct to Manchester.

Not too much snow going but lots of fog on the M62 returning.

On the plus side I found a ModelZone shop on Deansgate and purchased a nice IJN aircraft carrier Akagi.

Oh, and the trams in Manchester can be a menace too.
