SH4 has me raging

Just as the title says, the game has me simply pissed off to no end :mad: I've installed the game just fine on Windows 7, and some mods like OM on top of it. Everything was done as per recommendations on these forums. Started my career and everything was going well. For the last couple of days I've been able to play without any problems whatsoever. Then today, for some reason, the game simply refuses to load any saved games. I have four saves going while I'm out on patrol, plus there are several saves that the game creates automatically whenever you return or about to leave your home port.

So I try to load one of my latest saves, which was while I was out on patrol. The game CTD. So I try the next one down, another CTD. I go through all the saves I've created during my patrol, and all are CTD. Now I try to load one of the saves just before I left the port on that same patrol. It finally loads, thank god, but wait a minute, something is very wrong. When I go to look at my crew, they are all missing. There's not a single crewman on board, and I can't add any either. I try starting the patrol anyway, however, my boat is still without any crew whatsoever and of course I can't give out commands because there's no one there to carry them out.

This is just incredible. I mean what the hell happened to my game? I've been playing it just fine for two days. Everything ran fine, the saves were loading without problems, and now this :damn:

PS - can some please tell me how to make a screen shot in SH4?

So just randomly all your save games broke at once? You didn't do anything different over the past few days?

That's correct. I have not done anything to the saved games. I've been playing just fine for the last 2 days but today they all simply went haywire. None of them work.

Hmm, well I can't help too much yet as my Win 7 build is still on its way, but this is something I'll look out for.:hmmm:

This is what it shows me when I load up the save while still in port. I go to the subsystems to look at my crew and give them promotions, or upgrade the ship, but this is what I get. As you can see the entire roster is empty and even if I wanted to add any crew member, I could only add them to the rear torpedo launchers.

Hmm almost looks like a mod conflict, what mods are you running?

I'm running Operation Monsoon (OM), OMEGU, and Admiral Scheer add-on to OM. They are all compatible, I made sure of that before using them.

If it's a mod conflict issue, then I don't understand how I could have been able to play without any of these problems for two days.

I just discovered something. That screen shot I posted above was after I got back from my second patrol. However, I was able to load a save which was right after my first patrol (while still in port) and it seems to work fine. The boat is fully manned (unlike in the screen shot).

This is all very strange. Did my other saves get corrupted or something? All 7 of them?

Hope this doesn't happen to you once you switch over to Windows 7. Keep an eye out on this.

Yes, I happened to have 4 backups successive corrupt.
In the meantime, I had many MODs installed. It is believed they are all compatible but nothing is never sure.

Now only TMO.

Those playable BB's .....Sure you can run it with the other mods...Did you go over 100,000 in renown, some in the past CTD as it had no way to read it.

As the renown counter reads 99,999 that might be the issue good catch.

I had no idea that the renown could be the problem. My game is still crashing like crazy whenever I try to load a save. Sometimes it crashes outright and other times it will start loading, then I'll get the "Pleast Wait" screen and then a CTD.

So is there any way to fix this issue with the renown? I've had to restart my career three times already and it's looking like I might have to restart it for the forth time.

And in regards to the ship in my pic. It's the Admiral Scheer pocket battleship. I'm playing using the OM mod, and the BB is a compatible add-on for it. The reason for so much renown is quite simple really, I've been sinking many, many ships. I can decimate an entire 30 or 40 ship convoy with a ship like this unlike a uboat, so the renown accumulates very quickly. I've sunk almost 1.5 million tons in just two patrols.

I would appreciate any help in getting the renown issue fixed.

EDIT - I did search on these forums for renown crashes but didn't find anything, however, I found some threads about people asking how to edit their renown in already started careers. I found the file CareerTrack.upc and opened it. Apparently I have just over 173,000 renown up to this point. Should I simply put this back down to 0 and continue playing? Would this be a good way to get around this issue?

You need to ask the mod maker, I just know it was a problem with some previous playable ships, but few patrol around sinking that many... which is fine for you, would be boring as hell to me.

Your saves are corrupt, so start over and dock before you fill up with points and see what it doe's.

Yeah it's a different way of playing certainly. I enjoy being able to shoot it out with some of the capital ships in the game instead of constantly hiding from destroyers or whatnot.

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to say there. If I dock before filling up the renown, then that's not really a fix of any kind, because it will just get filled up on the following patrol. Or are you saying to dock before filling it up and then edit the CareerTrack.upc file so that it reads a very small amount of renown? Can you elaborate a bit on this?
