View Full Version : The Wardroom Discussion [Merged]

Hello!
After watching the TDC video I discovered that there seems to be no officers wardroom in the boat. Where it should be there are only bunks (when the commander walks towards the torpedo room, on the left side after the commanders bunk)!
If there is really no wardroom I'd be disappointed. It would have been a nice "gathering place" to sit down and listen to the grammophone. Also it's a bit incorrect to not have a wardroom.
cheers

Well, the link ends up at a picture of a dog. Anway, did the subs have a wardroom? Fleets did.

no wardroom would be a pretty big deal.True no function when attacking etc BUT since one of the selling points is being able to walk about the sub, see different parts etc, expecting an ACCURATE model.Really dont give a crap about crew interaction. No wardroom, hope its not true.

I noticed that when viewing the video,s neal put up there is no wardroom/officers dining place. I mean why did they leave this out? I doesnt servee any gameplay function but it was there in the trailer and it played such an important roll in das boot! I mean if the intereur is so realistic how come they left this out? I cant think of a reason why they would leave it out but it seems like they did. So forget an ACCURATE intereur model. I guess the captain just had to in eat his bunk as far as the dev team is concierned.

As I posted in the other thread about this, I think the 'wardroom' on a Type VII u-boat consisted of a table set in floor sockets in front of the LI's bunk. They set it up when needed, but most of the time there should only be his bed there.
Complaining about it is fine, but "forget ACCURATE model"? "big FAUXPAS"?
That's just a little extreme.

How on earth could they oversee this? I mean the wardroom does have a special place in my heart if when will play sh-5. After all its the only place one could really relax (aside from the bed) and listen to records. Either it will not be implemented or they still have to do so in the final version. I mean the detail is so high in the intereur but they forget the wardroom? WTF? I hope this is corrected in the final version. Maybe Neal could shed some light on this?

Nope the table was there permanently in real life. It server not only as a dining table but many other things So the sh-5 model should have it as well.

Wardroom should be next to the galley. We know the galley's there cause of our promenetly featured level 2 soup wizard. Have we seen vids of this area?

Looking at that Screenshot and other videos , compared to the cramp conditions of Das Boot, there is vast amount of space with hardly a body about.

That was the first thing i noticed in the video. It's true that the LI's bed was used as the wardroom, as a table was located in that space. But SH5 shows that there is a two bunk alcove where the wardroom would be, which is inaccurate if I recall (there should only be one bed there).
At the same time, we're seeing Silent Hunter III with mods that add the petty officers, galley, and diesel rooms in detail far better than what we're seeing of Silent Hunter V. If SH5 is truly as open for modding as the devs say, then it's merely a matter of time before a talented modder injects a little more reality into the sim.

Hello!
Sorry for the WRONG LINK! :)
If the picture (with the arrows) is meant to show a wardroom, it's wrong. The Wardroom would be on the port side (left) and there would be only ONE bunk with a (detachable) table in front. Usually the Chief engineer would sleep there, but when he doesn't it would be the wardroom!
Cheers
Marc
PS.: I go to visit U 995 in Laboe every year and I KNOW where the wardroom should be!

Not according to the blueprints which show 2 tables + sets for movies like das boot and (sorry) u-571 show 2 tables and 2 seating areas. Although only 1 table should be a fold out one and the other should be static.

As it can be seen in DAS BOOT the officers eat at the location I described (where the broadcasting radio and the little puppet is - the puppet Lt. Werner touches and says "ohh!"). There might be another table, where a commander would not sit down.

How can you notice things about a cutting board and miss that an entire section of the boat isn't there? I don't see how if true this could be an accident. Just more rust holes filled with Bondo.

So basicly they should just remove the top bunk in sh-5. Still i would like to have the ability to sit there as well. Hey maybe u just watch das boot a litte to much dont you think?

big faux pas? NO
If they left the wardroom out that takes accuracy away from the sub model big time, but they managed to put some annoying cook in asking you to sample his soup :haha:.I mean come one, they give us ONE sub in SH 5 and don't bother to include the wardroom? Not extreme, just the truth.

If they left the wardroom out that takes accuracy away from the sub model big time,
SH3 was the first subsim to have a 3D crew, and for many it was nothing more than an opportunity to complain about the way they looked.
SH5 gives the gamers what they wanted - a complete walk-through. So now there are complaints about...well, just about everything. I agree that I would rather have it be more to my liking, but it's supposed to be very easy to mod these things. You're right - complaining about it isn't extreme. But you're acting like this is a game-killer, and that is extreme. It's just a stupid graphic.

If i were to cite supporting references, i think id use pictures of the only surviving type 7 uboat in existance instead of a mock set constructed for a movie about a novel.

I did not want to start another thread so I will just gladly hijack this one... kinda as this is a serious question.
In SH5, what do the thought balloons with the ellipsis mean (...)
That they are available for orders?
That they are busy carrying out orders?
That they have orders but are waiting to carry out the order?

In SH5, what do the thought balloons with the ellipsis mean (...)
I think they mean different things in various situations.
1) You give a command, they acknowledge, or respond
2) You don't give a command but they are talking amongst themselves, like the chief giving orders to planesmen..
My opinion is some of the speech files were not ready for the preview/beta version, that's why they have the balloons. They might be replaced by speech files and/or subtitles that show at the bottom.

In this walkthrough video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HscHJooBflc&hd=1 It is crearly seen that they simpley did not model a wardroom. I dont understand how the dev,s could make a mistake like this if they visited the real thing in laboe germany. I mean its just plain stupid really.

Maybe it is not visible because it is a preview version.
I can't imagine SH5 without the simulation of all officers having dinner together. Though you wont sit there and stare like they eat but it would be a nice addition to sim feeling.
Or just sit there and drink a beer or make a cigaret :smug:

I'm confused, is the supposed compartment missing or is the space there but not configured correctly? Is it something like the boat interior is 50m and the interior in SH5 is 45m?
