Someone here (I don't recall whom right offhand) some time ago mentioned in the "Happy Birthday, Subsim!" thread that I would become addicted... and they hit the nail right on the head. Not only am I addicted to SUBSIM, I am also now trying to correct my nautical terminology and knowledge for the campaign journals I keep. I am a naval sim n00blet, but I'd sure feel bad if I let anyone down over proper writing skillage in this area.

Now I just need to save up for a copy of Das Boot, which I have never seen. Maybe next month? We shall see. Thanks, y'all. SUBSIM rocks.

Now I just need to save up for a copy of Das Boot,

Everyone here will tell you to make sure you get the uncut 5 hour
version. Not the director's cut or any other trimmed down edition.

Also; can you still buy iy through the subsim store? That gives Subsim a few pennies.

OMG A DAS BOOT VIRGIN!

You have to have to have to see it!

My advice would be to see the director's cut first and then find a copy of the uncut (miniseries) version, which you will probably have to buy.

If you have Netflix or any decent kind of video rental nearby, you should be able to rent a copy of the director's cut.

Or just don't waste the money on the rental and put it towards a purchase. I'm pretty sure I got the DC from Amazon pretty cheap. The extended version is more expensive but Amazon does have it - only drawback to getting only that one, IMO, is that there's no commentary track and I really enjoy listening to those after I've seen a movie a coupla times.

Honestly I'd lend you one of my copies except they don't leave my home unless they do it in my possession. :O:

So when can you come over?

Just kidding, of course. I've had the Uncut version for at least five years, and the DC since...well, I don't remember when. I bought the theatrical release (dubbed :dead:) on VHS sometime around 1988.

Thanks! :salute: I blame Jimbuna.

Now Jim is paid handsomely for his efforts. Jim has always expressed his contracted payment plan to add and retain SS members. Fine job Jim! :yeah:

I think the real reason for returning participating members is the fact that there is a bit of normal conversation and discussion like we have sense for the most part. I have seen some forums that are just nuts!

Das Boot is just one of many submarine movies to have in the collection. BTW, my wife got me a 5 DVD set up of Hell in the Pacific. Mostly colored footage of the war in the Pacific. Nothing shows love like war footage on Valentines Day!

I'll just add to this, you need to watch the DC with surround sound and turn it up really loud suring the depth charge scenes (minimum standard, need to be able to rattle pictures on the wall:yeah:)

I don't have surround sound... yet.

But I do have an okay sound system with subwoofer on the desktop machine. And it's right next to an adjoining wall. Hrm... :hmmm: Mwhahaha! :D

I have the director's cut too.

But it is obvious that it is a German-made military-themed movie and boy they are paranoid about not being label promoting militarism you are continuously put down in a few scenes such as a mate telling "That's a fine way to waste fuel" when the U-boats started to give surface chase. I found those kind of lines a little disturbing.
