:yep: Oh, this is one of my favorites. Bioshock had more neat things to see and the tone was so eerie, it was very good.

Hmm... I hate to say I never quite understood the fuzz about Bioshock. I found the first one extremely boring. :hmmm:

Me neither. I never liked it too much too. But I didn't like Prey either so maybe I'm just not so much into FPS anymore.... :hmm2:

Many people, different opinions ;). As for my the game gave me as much as i expected it to be. Same style, no more annoying hacking system (having fun with turrent bots and big sisters). Like the minigun also :|\\

I got the demo and played through it a couple of times. Seems like a fun game though I'm not rushing out to get it.

The first Bioshock was amazing, a really great single player experience. So, anybody here got their hands on the sequel? Is it just new "maps" and different guns?

Its a cool game and if you like the first one you will like this one as well.

I hate to bring up the dirty word but Bioshock 2 is suffering from the same DRM scheme that SH5 has been collared with. Granted it's only an FPS with lots of eye candy but the principle is the same. It sucks...and the more people who buy into this new DRM approach, the more restrictive the software will be for everyone regardless of what type of game they enjoy playing.

I'm not buying any game no matter how much I want to play them so long as the game has this crap included. This is the only way to resist the trend and bring about change people. Vote with your wallet.

I always felt that way about half-life. Never quite understood what all the fuss was about, I got rather bored with it very quickly and ended up trading it with a friend.

Prey was pretty blah, just some cute tricks to it and otherwise a pretty uninspired shooter.

Having watched my friend play bioshock 2 I was dissapointed to learn he isn't a very powerful big daddy, I had wanted to terrorize the splicers with my near invulnerability as a big daddy.. ah well.

All I know is that opening video is a bit twisted! :o

You know a movie is in the works? Supposed to be out this year but that's iffy.

Hmm... Wounder if they will do good. Not screw it up like most books in the transfer...

It strikes me than an awful lot of games that get made into films started out with a heavy dose of b-movie style movies as inspiration anyway which tends to result in, imo, even more dilute c or d list films once all the video game gubbins have been dealt with. they are mostly awkward, blinking things that have been through the ideas chewer several times until all the goodness has been digested and we are left with the unsavoury gristle. Diminishing returns I think we call it.

Literary translations suffer, again imo, from directors, screen writers and even the original authors being far too respectful of the source material. I've just read a great essay by Salman Rushdie where he discusses the problems of bringing 'Midnight's Children' to the screen and it's obvious that the real difficulties he had did not begin to get resolved until he ditched the novelistic framework that came over from the book and started thinking in a very different way. Of course, by the time that script was done other issue were on their way to sinking the project.

Sorry. Anyways, Bioshock. Never understood the attraction of the first one. Seemed a fairly generic shooter with a couple of nice touches thrown in. Is the new one that much different?

I don't know everyone's age so I'll just say I'm probably older than many here. When I played Bioshock the first thing I caught was strong similarity between Andrew Ryan and John Galt (the main character in Ayn Rands' book, "Atlas Shrugged"). Andrew Ryan and John Galt place a lot of importance on people pulling their own weight which was the basis of Ayn Rand's philosophy of Objectivism. Also note the use of the name "Atlas" and how he was supposed to be a hero to the people of Rapture.

I also liked the heavy emphasis on the 1940's culture (I was born in the 50's). I think the game would make a pretty good movie if they can transfer these elements into the screen story. It would be almost other worldly to people today with all the high tech culture we live with.

Yeaahaww! I hated GFWL with a fervent passion!
I was just thinking about this game having finished Bioshock infinite yesterday. Now, i have just reinstalled this game. I can confirm, it is free of that irritating GFWL. I'm looking forward to playing it again.

Just bought the first BioShock the other day. I love it.

I keep wondering how I missed it all these years. I'm loving it....but playing as a Big Daddy in BioShock 2?

Sounds fun...but not at the same time.

How does the gameplay of Infinite match up with the first two anyway?

I'm still not seeing how they can go from dark, creepy Rapture to this....bright happy floating city of Colombia.
