And when we get tired of the damn hair, we end up like this:

I saw that happen a lot back in High School. For a few years, guys would leave their hair grow, like if we were in the 60's again, have the hair like that for some time, and then cut it again, as if it was some sort of stage we had to pass. Weird...
Has this happened to someone else?:rotfl2:

It happened to me in the days before digital cameras, so I would have to find the pics in a box somewhere and scan them lol, but definitely.
Although I knew years in advance that my first stop after School would be a recruiter, so I took the opportunity to grow it. :arrgh!:

Meh, the longer my hair gets the harder it is for me to get it looking decent. Also, I once saw a picture of my dad in high school with shoulder length hair...
Unfortunately, I have my mom's straight hair and my dad's cowlick which looks really funny when you put them together ;)

I still take the liberty to grow it out, along with the vanishing-then-reappearing beard/goatee/cheek-stubble affair. I can get away with it most days, especially in winter. Summertime brings too much humidity to effectively "rock the mullet". Humidity here makes it look more like a drowned muskrat.
Please bear in mind that I try to keep the hair length consistent. It's a throwback to my sk8r heydays, when Tony Hawk was skating alongside Steve Cabalerro, and Kurt Cobain wasn't so much a known heroin addict.
Ah, youth. Believe it or not, I had to wear a motorcycle helmet for a few weeks back then, after my grandparents learned that I had taken up skating. It was a Christmas present. How were they to know? *shrug*
I would add a current photo to this post, but I'd rather remain anonymous for now.

What's really funny is when you look at your long-ish hair from behind in the mirror, and you notice that your cowlick is thinning out in a big way.
I'm growing my hair long right now... I look better with it and I have it on female authority that longer hair is better. ;)

Depends on the "female authority", but hey, if it works, take that ball and run with it. :DL
@martes86
Were you one of those upper-echelon (high school) guys rocking out to the Iron Maiden whilst I, the lowly krashkart, was still in grade school fearing that Red Dawn was a potential reality? :O:

Me, more than once.
But then I grew up in the '60s, so what do I know?

I never grew it long in the back. I did however go with the whole bangs coverin one side of my face while shredding. Now - and I don't forsee it changing - bald is beautiful! I shave my head constantly - though occasionally will let it grow out into a high and tight as my girl likes me with a little hair. I much prefer totally bald with my mustache and goatee (which have been constants for 15+ years).

Bald with a Goatee eh? sounds hot.

And I was thinking you were an "old salt" from looking at your avatar. You gave away your age by describing your dad. :ahoy:

Haha, sorry to disappoint :p2: I've still got about 50 years to go til I can claim old salt status...

Maybe people grow their hair long to prove to following generations that they did once have hair??:hmmm:

I was kind of a punk rocker so my hair went through a LOT of odd and multicolored stages. The longest I ever grew it was down to almost my waist. The reason I cut my hair was because it was REALLY hot that summer and long hair made the back of my neck sweat and it annoyed the hell out of me. It was also always getting in my eyes.
