I NEED help!

about 6 months ago I was trying desperately to get SH3 to work with Vista, I couldnt do it. So rather than give up, I installed XP again on my brand new pc! :yeah:

Off I went to university and all is going well, I recently bought a laptop with windows 7! you can see where this is going...

I have SH3 installed and it opens ok, but just when it should open up the first menu it CTD's! I have tried the DXfix that some people say works and that made it totally FUBAR!

When I have 4 hours of Meteorology lectures I really need to be playing SH3 on my really nice, new, HD lappy!

Are you running it in compatability mode for one of the XP service packs? That is useualy a given but easy to forget. The next thing you might try if that is how you are runing it is changing your desktop resolution to 1024x700ish. This will should let the game long enuf for you to set the game to windowd mode and it should then work just fine. At least that is how I got it to work for me, though my problem with windows 7 was the game was crashing at start up.

1. Remove sf from previous installation with the official removal tool.
2. Re-install sh3 but do not run it yet.
3. patch it to 1.4b (run as administrator otherwise it won't work)
4. My version of sh3 came with sf, so I ran the crack, as posted above in this thread.
5. Change the desktop resolution to 1024 x 768.
6. run sh3 without the Cd in the tray.
7. go to options and de-select full screen so it will run sh3 in its own window. Exit sh3
8. Change desktop back to my original resolution.
9. Install Grey Wolves.

If you have a nvidia gfx card then make sure you disable the AA or set it to Application Controlled in the nvidia Control Panel.

Also check what your screen refresh rate is. I have to manually set a custom refresh resolution to get SH3 to play in Win7 so that the refresh rate was actually 60Mhz and not the 59Mhz that Win7 insisted was better for my monitor.:down:

OK, quick up date:
1) Running as admin, in compatability mode for XP SP2
2) changed AA settings to app controled and then turened off completely!
3) DX9 fix ruins the thing totally!
4) I followed the install procedure as above!
5) It STILL dosen't bloody work!

I remember in the post I made before someone saying they were given a file to make the game run with vista, but it was supposed to be for seven! does anyone know what I'm on about or am I just losing my sanity!

at least now I can still play it on my PC!
