I have read many of the threads here about the long awaited SH5 and have found only 1 thread that somewhat alludes to the multi-player aspect of the game and I have to assume that there is indeed a small percentage that actually play MP.

Most of you from what I gather play campaign or single missions and that's fine, whatever floats your boat. I can well imagine that there are some who have tried to play as a wolf pack with others online but got quickly discouraged with connection issues, CTD, ping problems, ego trips, cheat mods, insufficient RAM or my all time favorite....the host killing the game when he gets ripped by a depth charge. Most of these problems can be eliminated by having Teampeak, Ventrillo, etc. to be able to communicate to the others in the map and come to a mutual agreement on game play. And more importantly to be able to resolve issues.

As of right now I am on the fence on buying the game or not because I do not know what (if any) improvements have been done to the MP side of the house. When SH4 came out UBI took a couple of steps backwards from what they had in SH3 ie; in SH4 using the windows button will get you disconnected from the game, not SH3. When logging into the server in SH4 you have to populate UID and PW each time you load up, not in SH3. A much higher rate of CTD in SH4 than SH3 and yes we all had the same mods. The server for SH4 is pathetic with error messages galore! Will we be able to text to the poor sailor who is trying to host a map with no ping and he does not have a clue why no one joins him? Will there be an adversarial mode ( human controlled DD against other sub players)? If so I sure hope they have a much better interface than what they threw together in SH4! Hopefully they have addressed these issues and have not taken another step backwards.

I truly hope that SH5 will blow players out of the water with game play, graphics and surprises. I wish them every success now and in the future. There will always be those that you can not please, its the nature of the beast. You can please some of the players all the time, all of the players some of the time, but you damn sure can not please all of the players all of the time!

Bad news to you, bad news to me (I love multiplayer mode too):

Will there be an option in multiplayer to take command of a Battleship, Destroyer, frigate etc... and fight against other players commanding the submarines and eventually some other KM ships supported by Submarines?

No, you won’t be able to take control of a surface ship in multiplayer but the new interface (TAI) can be used to achieve better synchronization between players in 3D, making online coop much more interesting.Muliplayer mode in SH4 was not to so bad...
It have perfect random mission generator, have adversarial mode...
I know that is was very bugged but... it was too small step in right side.
Please remember that whole game was highly bugged - multi too.

It was example how to destroy the great game with many great ideas...
Developer could make a delay with selling game for half a year and sell it for the Christmas. But... this is "great politics" - sell the unfinished game on time and destroy the reputation.

So, about SH5 - last question:
What it is: "better synchronization between players in 3D, making online coop much more interesting"?
I hope that isn't a UBI marketing...

the biggest lack of substance in most threads is because very little is known about the game.

UBI has decided to say little to nothing about anything players view as important and instead on mention "eye candy" details and stuff.

i would assume they think less info will increase interest in the game.

There are many players that play online in wolf packs or sub vs sub, I play also .

Well, the focus is on other features for SP, so the MP part gets usually forgotten. We at the 24th Flotilla have been asking for a long time for a reliable adversarial mode, like what was archieved in SH2/DC, but for the moment, only coop mode is being done (though we don't give up on the thought that a future addon or new sim might add this kind of functionality).
Since we the MP tournaments are a very important part of our community that we want to be able to keep alive, we're struggling to offer our members new ways to have fun, but it's really hard to play stock SH3 (SH4 never really took off for us) after 5 years and not get any boredom in the process. In our case, when people stops playing, it's because they're bored of the game (coop is so fun until you get bored of playing the same stuff, and sinking the same ships all the time in the exact same way) or because they don't have any spare time. They may play at times, but they're no longer regulars like they were at first.

Since we love realism in our MP, we don't allow any voice programs (they're not needed actually, and I don't think it's the solution, it tends to get noisy, we even disallowed the chat msgs in SH2 for submerged subs) unless it's an MP training mission, since we have our own Naval Academy to teach new captains how to have fun online, and do stuff the historically right way.

Cheers

Don't stop ask!
Something interesting must be in add-on, right?
:D

I'm waiting too for ADV mode. Unfrortunatelly Akella doesn't allow the use of Battleships...
