I have read many of the threads here about the long awaited SH5 and have found only 1 thread that somewhat alludes to the multi-player aspect of the game and I have to assume that there is indeed a small percentage that actually play MP.
Most of you from what I gather play campaign or single missions and that's fine, whatever floats your boat. I can well imagine that there are some who have tried to play as a wolf pack with others online but got quickly discouraged with connection issues, CTD, ping problems, ego trips, cheat mods, insufficient RAM or my all time favorite....the host killing the game when he gets ripped by a depth charge. Most of these problems can be eliminated by having Teampeak, Ventrillo, etc. to be able to communicate to the others in the map and come to a mutual agreement on game play. And more importantly to be able to resolve issues.
As of right now I am on the fence on buying the game or not because I do not know what (if any) improvements have been done to the MP side of the house. When SH4 came out UBI took a couple of steps backwards from what they had in SH3 ie; in SH4 using the windows button will get you disconnected from the game, not SH3. When logging into the server in SH4 you have to populate UID and PW each time you load up, not in SH3. A much higher rate of CTD in SH4 than SH3 and yes we all had the same mods. The server for SH4 is pathetic with error messages galore! Will we be able to text to the poor sailor who is trying to host a map with no ping and he does not have a clue why no one joins him? Will there be an adversarial mode ( human controlled DD against other sub players)? If so I sure hope they have a much better interface than what they threw together in SH4! Hopefully they have addressed these issues and have not taken another step backwards.
I truly hope that SH5 will blow players out of the water with game play, graphics and surprises. I wish them every success now and in the future. There will always be those that you can not please, its the nature of the beast. You can please some of the players all the time, all of the players some of the time, but you damn sure can not please all of the players all of the time!
