The tester sounds like a newbie to sub-sims.
The look and feel in SH4 was so realistic that your forget that you´re in front of a screen?
Oh and all is so well arranged and easy accessible. And don´t forget the fancy graphics! Clickclick BOOM and two cruisers are history... :nope:
rough summary:
Very light and simple interface, outstanding graphics and hey... hardcore simmers have the chance to set the torpedos depth and such things!
The atmosphere in the boat is very good according to the tester. Walk around, see the crew, hear the bulkheads creaking...
Most of the switches are not functional... :damn: Move around as you want but don´t touch anything???

yeah, there is bad weather. but there are no real rough seas so far. in the german forum one fellow mentioned, the calculation of rough seas was to be so hard, they cancelled it. therefore there are now the sternwakes calculated in real time...this also was the reason for not adding really rough seas...

Thank god my Yoda translator cleared it up:
If guaranteed submarine simulations are famous for anything not, probably tough for action or a fast-paced game, is it. Editor fabian siegismund to the following conclusion, already in the previous test for silent hunter 4-star game was: "The simulation feels so real that we may forget flat, their home pc sitting on." Similarly, us with the preview version of silent hunter 5, it is. Among other things, now run freely through the u-boat, we can. Unlike the predecessor, where we showed up by pressing a button on the bridge, now take the legs in his hand and hurried walk out, we must.
From left and right, take two enemy cruisers in the deficiency. Your submarine bullets raining down some amount on. No choice, you have, of scarce air from dive in spite. Deep. Very deep. Rising, the pressure is. Of water the exterior walls creak on the floor forms a carpet.
That last part was almost poetic :har:
Review: worthless.

DING< DING< DING. Two u-boats in the same picture.
I've seen other boats in SH3. Granted it was with mods. This is the first time the game out of the box has had other boats. That is a plus.
I'll be more impressed once we see what these other boats actually do, how they act. We've been told they'll be there, and we've been told they'll attack. It's kind of hard to tell what the in-game implementation of them is really like, though. I think the disappointment people have felt at what has been revealed so far probably keeps a lot of people from getting too hopeful.
For example, I can't tell if they have a crew on watch.

Its a ( / the? Dont know the market shares ...) major German PC games magazine and I assume they refer to the old review version that had only some single missions in it. Not giving it to them would kind of leave a big dent in advertizing SH5 in Germany. Especially among the new, young target group! :-?
But I agree, the stuff they wrote is crap. Last time I checked they simply had noone left that was responsible for simulations so I assume they put someone on it that simply has no idea what the difference between a battleship and a destroyer is.

Uh, there are actually news in there (if they are reliable)!
Rough translation:
Meanwhile, the allies adjust their reactions to the player, send support or withdraw task forces. You can not win the war, but you influence the events to a certain degree. Your performance in the battle of Malta has a major influence on the war in africa, for example.I assume they actually asked and got an answer and are not just guessing.
Oh, and one other thing:
Im fünften Teil dreht sich alles um den am häufigsten zum Einsatz gekommenen und versenkten Typ VII der deutschen Reichsmarine. Andere Modelle finden nicht statt, da sie im Zeitfenster des Spiels (1939-43) keine tragende Rolle spielten. In the fifth part they concentrate on the most frequently used and sunk submarine, the Type VII of the German Reichmarine. Other modells are not included, as they played no major role between '39 and 43'Yeah, right. Operation drumbeat and the closing of the Saint Lawrence River for international shipping? Nah, no biggies. But I assume they were not allowed to write "other types are not included because UBI ran out of time and would rather ship the game that way". :shifty:

On the observation scope - its always up because on the surface because on the surface it can see farther than your watch crew. Ok ... .not really - its up because they have Bernard spinning it in circles in the control room while everyone else is trying to live thru the war.
No?
Ok fine - then chalk it up to the reviewer/tester having little knowledge of how submarines actually work, so he/she forgot to lower the thing.

Hell yeah, TypeII !
So there are other types of subs roaming and doing their thing in the campaign. It's just that we can't select them for our career.
Not for long though, wait till all this is modded. Hopefully the programming language will open the whole game up. (It was Python I think?)
There is a chance to import interiors from older SH games and get into other Uboat types, then use the new mod tools to put in interactive crew.. Hmm..

the real conning tower on type VIIC, VIIC/41 has the edge of tower finish twisted on outside.......these uboats on SH5 gave the tower edge sharp & straight finished

Well, the VIIC is not the only boat in SH5. Probably the tower in that pic is from a VIIA. Now, I'm not 100% sure, but there were lots of differences between tower versions, maybe that detail is one of those differences.

Now, I'm not 100% sure, but there were lots of differences between tower versions, maybe that detail is one of those differences.
Germany had about 20 Uboot shipyards and almost every one of them has built Type VII boats in all variants. There was this indeed a basic construction design for a particular variant but almost all of these shipyards built the towers with different designs and details for experimental purposes.

Well, long periscopes could be more a bad design than a bug. the 3d modeller perhaps think that it was the real size of the scopes in a II type.

The thing that caught my eye in picture number 2 is that the horseshoe is hung upside down.
While the graphics are better, I find that almost all the shots have that oil painting look. Maybe that is the evolution of graphics. Before we get photo realistic, we first have to go through the the final stage, which is oil on canvas.

I didn't found a photo of a real boat in the hurry, but this model has it to and that's the way the life buoy was mounted to the tower.
