so far we have been talking about the big changes that schould be made to the current SH5 as we think it will come into the shelves.
i have some hopes that i would like to see in SH5 that disturbed me in the previous SH's,maybe they will be community made mods afterwards.
-smoke and fire;in SH4 when you hit a ship it started to burn and you saw uit alot of smoke.but when looking at pictures of real schips on fire i miss the thickness and blackness of the smoke.further the fires went out within seconds after a ship disapeers under water,in reality(and at least by oilers) the fire and smoke schould be there for a longer time(this could be a block of the line off sight for both you to target other ships and to the allied to be able to make visual contact with the sub).
-bilgewater:the water that was pumped out of the american subs in SH4 looked as semi-transparent snowballs instead of a steady flow of water...

anybody something else?

anybody something else?

Yeah, something that have always annoyed me is the level water agitation in ports and pens.

In real footage we can see that U-boats in ports are in calm waters and are completely stable. However, in SH3 and in the last SH5 video, U-boats are way too much agitated in those areas.

I really hope this will be corrected.:timeout:

One minor correction:

It's not bilge water and it's not being pumped out. The outer hull is hollow, so water can flow freely between it and the pressure hull. When the boat rises out of a trough and over the crest of a wave, all that water flows back out to the sea through the limber holes.

But I agree - Rubini's adaptation for SH3 looks much better than the SH4 original.

And I agree with Méo. I've said many times that harbors are chosen for their calmness and safety. From the SH5 video it's obvious that the waters are rough even inside the sub pens. Not good.

For big waves by docks and pens, remember SH2 docking after you were told mission was completed? :har::har::har:

I remember the weather being so bad at Wilhelmshaven that I ran aground a couple of times - out in the middle of the bay! Hit bottom!

I also agree that it doesn't look right, but when you think about why it looks that way in game is because it is the same water that is in the open areas of the harbour and open ocean. Which even when calm is still moving about quite a bit.

I think it would be a bit boring if the water were always glass calm when you kick off a patrol because it would be tied to the weather not to the location.

Not glass calm, except inside enlosed spaces, but not 10-foot waves either. Or even 5 feet.

Not more than heavy ripples, really, maybe 1 foot.

On the light side (SH3 with GWX) I was mucking about Narvik, thinking it was under British control. The weather was awful with low vis and rain.Trying to find something to sink I heard the band playing. Went into the dock and got a medal. :D

Not to mention a lot of the challenge of real life port raiding is tides. The shoreline of Norway gets crazy in the tides for one. While we are at it river flows into the sea would rock as well.

I'd have thought waves within the harbour area would be 1 foot, 2 at most during inclement weather but always flat as glass in enclosed areas such as ship basins and pens.

Wouldn't want to be accused of being a rivet counter either :DL

The smallest thing I can think of: torpedo textures. They were already ugly in 2005 with SH3, and they're still ugly in 2010! (look at the SH5 cover on amazon.co.uk).

Oh and the engine sound in the videos sounds very similar to good old stock SH3 (dull).

No, SONAR, which stands for SOund NAvigation and Ranging. And the medal was for finding such a new and unique use for it.

Bring back local time and base time from SH3, that feature I missed in SH4.

:yep:

SH4 really lost it with that one. Local time is a must. Base time is a must. GMT is interesting, but when do I really ever need to know the time in London?

You're right Steve.
Admittedly I occasionally need to know that.
But I live there, so I can just look out the window :DL
