I am ordering SH5 through this site tomorrow and I have been looking through the different threads and so far have not found any opinion of yours on what you think of the sim or future of SH5. I would value what you think of the game before I buy it.

I think it's a great game. 1944 is overrated anyway. I think you should preorder two copies - one to play and another spare just in case. You won't regret it.

Unlike previous SH releases I don't believe Neal has been given an advance copy to review but he has publicly committed to carrying out said task after release.

Don't say that - Neal will never get a copy...:rotfl2:

They just might rename UBISOFT Titanic II as it may hit a bigger iceberg ( Like thousands of ex customers ) than the first one did in 1912 and Neal is building his own lifeboat just in case. :D

Unlike SH2 and SH3, Ubisoft has decided not allow me or other websites a chance to preview the game. I'm afraid that is usually a very bad sign. This was the method they used for SH4, no previews, just demos, and as you know, SH4, while a decent game, was very buggy and unfinished upon release. Most of the problems were addressed in patches later, but there is no assurance that Ubisoft will support SH5 the same way, unless it sells like crazy, and unfinished games usually don't sell very well.

thanks!
Neal

Its always a good idea to ask neal what he thinks, because I might be playing some crappy FPS instead of an awesome game like SH3

I am assuming Ubisoft expect to continue profiting from this title with DLC, this will probably include some of the bug fixes much the same as Uboat missions in SH4.

What I find curious, where is the beta testing?
Ubi has been beta testing Settlers. I'm I deaf, blind? Havent seen a peep about beta testing SH5.

No further comment, your honour. :shifty:

Going to play the H3LL out of it and post either thrilling AARs here or ranting maniacal editorials on the absolute lunacy of it all. Probably a little of each.

And if you know where to look and you look hard enough, you will find ACTUAL COMMENTS FROM PLAYERS NOW EXPERIENCED WITH UBISOFT'S DRM. Some of it quite funny. One reason why I don't post much here about DRM amongst all the speculation - I can get firsthand feedback from real users.

So, all people which pre-ordered game will be final testers for us...

If SH5 will be a catastrophe you can:
* wait for add-on or fan mods to SH5
* develop and play Danger of the Deep
* play with modded SH4
* play with modded SH3

But at this moment wait for SH5 - maybe this game will be not so bad or be playable after modding? I'm worried too that UBI have not published some information about game yet (for example manual TDC).
Experience with UBI shows: no info = bad info.

Now game is or is very close to production / releasing process and I expect a big, final announcement of SH5. If not...
Well... I do not have to have SH5 as the first - will wait for colleagues opinions on this forum.

In honor of the imminent release of SH5 I've just reinstalled Silent Hunter 3 - trying to get a handle of the new and recently released mods as I’ve been away from the SH3 forum for a while -

Too bad about SH5 but then I always thought it was odd for a major games publisher to continue with a series that’s clearly only ever going to cater to a niche audience, surprised it made it to SH4 - not a criticism of the game or the publisher - just an acknowledgement of standard publishing practice these days -

Some great new SH3 mods are on the way or just updated - I’ve seen enough of SH5 to know its does not represent an improvement on SH3 - IN MY OPINION, even without the DRM.

By the way - For Australian members - EB Games is running a petition to get an R rating set up for games following the recent debacle with Aliens V's Predator. On the subject EB will be selling Aliens V's Predator without any dumbing down in Aust

Apparently because the Aliens blood is green - not Red they were able to get it past the idiot censorship board in South Aust - The petition is worth signing -

Though possibly a bit late if games publishers continue to dumb down games for 'wider appeal' - in the end they're going to be so childish you might as well read a good book or buy a pet hamster

Interestingly the release of Aliens V's Predator roughly coincides with the release of SH5 - so you do have a choice - That is of course unless Aliens has a DRC or similar plastered all over it

Regards to all

Rascal

Well, at the german amazon page SH5 is at rank #217 in category "Games" (that includes console titles). It's on #50 in PC games. I think, it would be a good seller in germany. But that wont change Ubisoft's behaviour not to release a demo version. Maybe the already aquired customers will change their mind after try outs with a demo and cancel their pre-orders...

Neal is right, all this is very suspicious. No Demo, no previews, "no comment" about DRM and protection until a few days ago, we can not resell the game...and so on.

It's bad.:nope:

I fear they (ubi) know they're throwing us garbage. That's why they don't give us a real preview. I guess they already KNOW a lot of us will be really disappointed in many ways.:hmmm:
But, of course, this would damage sales and revenue...so better let them (buyers) discover when it's too late.

or they just dont have the servers up and running yet so there is nothing they CAN show us yet

Yes, it is possible. But very unlikely in my modest opinion. Ubisoft is a great company after all, if they don't have servers up and running to show their products one month before release, I suspect they simply have no "great" products to show.

Of course I hope I'm totally wrong..

well think about it for asecond, they need servers dedicated for all their new games now and not just for sh5 and i hear the servers have been going down at UBI a lot lately so its very possible they are in construction or a new large server system to handle all this new traffic and data storage with is quite a big deal so its not just putting servers in a room and plugging them in.

but like you said we could both be wrong and they just arent saying anything because its no that great.
