View Full Version : Star Force hindering me!

Went on to install SHIII on new laptop. Made the usual things, installed outside of the program folders and patched the game. However, when tried to test run the game before GWX installation, got "internal error" message concerning... STAR FORCE PROTECTION SYSTEM! :damn:

Checked the updates for drivers and got message: "Latest protection drivers already installed in your system, no update is need." :damn:

Made a second test run... same thing again. :damn:

Don't know, what I should do the next, but one thing is sure:

This is absolutely ridiculous! You pay for something you can't use!!!:damn::damn::damn:

So, congrats to UBI, Star Force, Microsoft and others! I'm starting to understand, why people are looking for "other ways" to play! Can't even imagine, what this will be with DRM.

Greetings,

I've been the owner of a Star Force free SH3 disk that I bought for a mere nine bucks at an office supply store for well over a year now.

PM?

I have to admit as someone who doesn't own SH3 I'm not up on it. If the answer is a PM, I can only assume there is some sort of hack involved to defeat SF? I seem to remember reading that this was some sort of unspoken thing.

Presumably the same will be true of whatever OSP hack exists, everyone will utilize it, and no one will talk about it.

I realize even saying this will likely lock the thread, but if such a thing is true, it's an important model going forward. People can hardly sit on a high-horse WRT exe cracks if they use them.

I use one for il-2, for example (no cd), but I've also paid for Il-2, and all the add-ons (plus an extra recent edition with everything on it I got for someone as a gift).

<shrug>

Better to produce easy to use products. I have to say I just got empire total war, and Steam was a major PITA. Had I been less savvy in terms of forum searches, etc, I'd have been pissed when it kept giving install errors.

Yep, I'm aware there is version without SF. I still think I should be able to use the older version, or all three of them, to be precise. :damn:

Yeah, everything DRM is now related to SH5 :O: I see your point, mate, but let's allow SH5 issues to have their own place.:salute:

No one is on a high horse, it's pretty simple and has been repeated about 69000 times: do what you want in the privacy of your den, don't bring it up in the forums. Sort of like masturbation, we don't wanna know :arrgh!:

Hello, Tater!

A question: What is PM?

And yes, I have "heard rumours" about the hack also. Really haven't ever use those, not even to save disc. And OT, I'm too palying IL-2 + expansions, and I like them very much.

Well,

super sticky or not, I got SF problem solved. However, now I can't install GWX. Every time I try, I got error message suggesting I already have MODS installed. No luck after couple clean installations. :damn:

I thought I might just point out that under windows7, you don't need the starforce removal tool, using the start menu go to start up>advanced startup>drivers then delete the 3 starforce entries.

You could do that, but depends on which windows 7, I think. I first did that, but when i tried to run the game at 1024X762 or whichever that res is, it would crash because of starforce. So I had to use the removal tool. You can do what you did, but I think you'd rather play it safe and just use the website.

Cool, I didn't have that problem, just an annoying starforce pop up...
