View Full Version : Dowly's missing token
Anyone else getting this error message after today's downtime? :o
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/huh-1.jpg
I cant say for sure if it's the forum that is acting up or that I updated my firefox to 3.6. :hmmm: Anywho, gotten this three times already (once posting, once polling and once when trying to PM Neal about it ).

Had it on occasion mate but it usually clears itself.
On the subject of the forum downtime, it always seems to be the same time each day. I usually loose it around 9/10am (GMT).
Have the servers got automatic updates enabled which require reboots? Had this problem before on private servers. ;)
Aye, have noticed that it's quite often down around that time. :hmmm:

Yes, and it's been going on for several days now, such a compromised uptime is not good for a site such as this, and it totally beats the purpose of a website being in a dedicated server.

I know, but I am having ZERO luck finding an SQL technician to hire. :damn:

Ohh, can't really help there.
I suspect your technicians have already suggested the following but it's worth saying it.
As the crashes are (nearly) daily and at the same time, it has to be a scheduled task. Either a Db backup job or a Log Flush, which incidentally has caused similar problems with many SQL Db in the past.
I'm not sure of the platform OS this is all running on but if we assume that the crashes occur @ 10am GMT, that should be 3am US. That is the normal time for OS automatic updates.
I know next to nothing about SQL coding etc but I do know that 'experts' will always look for the hardest and most in depth issues possible, as if trying to prove their e-manliness. :haha: They never check the obvious.

Yes, my thinking too:
We checked the logs, and found that the logs are missing between 7.00 AM and 7.50AM. But the cron set for running mysql backup seems to have got completed long before that. This indicates that the root cause of the server down was not backup, but something else.
Daily backups are good idea for MySQL databases. Especially if they are being updated constantly. The backup run at 4:00am CST, have you experienced any slow response times from the server around this time? If not, they are not stressing the server and you can leave it as it is.
I have modified the backups to occur weekly, so we shall see if the problem continues on the backup day.

Haha! Yeah, or maybe the demander needs to get smarter about finding the supply :haha:
Let's hope it helps! :salute: (Tho, the security token thingy still remains.)

Describe the security token thing, please. When do you get it? Which browser, any other details will be great, thanks.:shucks:

I posted screenshot of the message to the other thread (Click! (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1255733&postcount=6)).
It seems completely random, I've had it appear when posting, editing, changing my sig and PM'ing. It's no biggie, it goes away when I hit the back button in my browser and submit again.

Ok, thanks, checking into it now. How often do you get this, would you say? I think maybe your sig has something to do with (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?335318-Your-submission-could-not-be-processed-because-a-security-token-was-missing.&highlight=token)it, would you mind removing it and trying without a sig for a while? You're the only person with a 400K sig ;) Try it without sig, let me know if it comes up again.
Edit: You are using the SmartDark style, right?
Danlissa, you are seeing this too? Using SmartDark style? Anyone else get this?

Yaadiyaa!! :stare:
@Neal
I was having the issue before I changed to this sig and yes, using smartdark.
I get it maybe every third-fourth post or so. Tried cleaning my cookies, but that didnt help. But like I said, it's no biggie. Only problem it causes is if I am editing a post and then get the error and press the back button on my browser, the edited stuff is reseted so I have to edit my post again.
Most interesting thing is that I started to get this after I changed to firefox 3.6, never had this before. I'll make a test thread to spam to with IE to see if I get the problem with that too.
Right, I spammed like an idiot with both IE and FF in my highly scientific test.
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=161468
I'll keep using IE in normal browsin for a few hours and see if I get the error.

I'm using ff 3.6 too.
I don't think that ff is causing the problem, however it is possible that
some kind of ff plug-in is causing this.
Perhaps you should also test with all ff plug-ins disabled.:06:

Good deal, thanks, Let me know about the non-sig tests. If the sig isn't it, I have some other ideas but I definitely want to be sure it's not just your sig before I go crazy with the templates and send the forum back to the Stone Ages. :)
It is not the sig. Like I said earlier, I've had the problem BEFORE I changed the sig. :hmmm:

Test it. Test it!
:haha:

Fine! But the sig comes back unless you ask me to remove it due to it's size and even then I point you to the numerous screenshot thread we have and say "see, most of them are over 300kbs too!". :O:

Ok, fair enough. Now next test, look down at the bottom of the forum page, left side. There's a style dropdown. Switch the Ferret style and do some posting in your test thread. Not just edits, either. New posts and some edits. And not too fast, give it a few second or a minute between posts, ok? We will figure this out.

Only been here since November and posted my butt off constructively while trying to attain the rank of "Admiral." I won't live long enough.
Woodchuck Dowly with over 12,300 posts has only attained the rank of a "VARMIT".........I conceed and declare that "the ferret" owes Mr. Stevens a whole lot of money to compensate his or her bandwidth usage........

Hmm... this is really curious. I cannot imagine wth is going on, but in vBulletin, they strongly suggested that it would be some changes made to the non-stock templates. They say to make a default style and give it a name which I did, naming it Ferret style. With that style, there should not be any token issues...yet you say you got one? :hmmm:
...and no one else is getting this, or they are not mentioning it. Dalissa said he has seen it a couple times...anyone else?
Back to the drawing board...
I'm starting to lean towards FF3.6 messing something. Still havent gotten the error with IE. And like I've said before a few times, it's no biggie. I can live with that. Think of it as a punishment for all the times I've been naughty here. :haha:
EDIT: Gah! Got it again! It's getting worse! :wah:

Dowly, Truly a great study.........thanks for devoting your time toward significant constructive means.
Right, tell you what Neal. I'll revert back to earlier version of FF and see if I still got the errors. (I started to get the errors hour or so after I updated my FF :hmmm:)
Neal, take a look at this. It would seem this is indeed a problem with FF3.6. :hmmm:
