maybe you are suposed to talk to the floating head on the scope and tell him stuff like... target spead, AOB and distance so that he can play with the knobs on the TDC?
that could be good.

Modeling the "sight taker--map plotter--TDC data entry" chain would be the most awesome. Even better if it worked with voice recognition. Of course this level of thinking is beyond the developer's talents or wishes.
I would have loved in SH3/SH4 to have simply shouted out a series of "range X-X-X-X, mark!" and then come back to the map and seen that my friendly AI crew member had placed map marks (with time!) for each one of those sightings. He even was so good as to fit a least-squares fit to the data and have calculated an average speed and course.

now that's something to look forward 5 years from now :rotfl2:
if that was released i'd pee and cry right in my game chair and wet my bed for the following week.
it would be awesome without voice recognition too of course.

The funny part is how absolutely straightforward that it is programmatically (the AI-assisted plotting, not the voice-activation). AI tactics, AI sensor usage, weather algorithms... these are all much harder for a programmer to make work.

I would venture to guess it is in there. The current videos show the nice yellow triangle for auto. Both SH3/4 had manual torp settings. No reason to drop that part of the game.

No TDC - game not to SH fans.

The new TDC screen ... fully auto or randomly hit ratio depending of the realism options or "powers" ( i hate this new word)
For the new market target it needs to be easy and quick . With the new philosophy i guess that battle stations in the submarine are a secondary thing and it rely all to the crew

So? I have hundreds of hours of research and modeling work that didn't make it into the product release I'm working on that should ship end of this month.
Beside which Septermber is late in the cycle to be looking at this. The MTDC is pretty core functionality. This is the kind of work that should be done at the start of the development cycle before the first lines of code are cut.
While absence of evidence is not evidence of absence it sure as heck isn't looking good right now.

There wasn’t much reason to drop many other aspects of the game, not least as it was easy to see what the most popular aspect or features of the Silent Hunter series might be - But guess what - they just went ahead and dropped just about the lot – S
So I really wouldn’t be surprised if there is no Manual targeting - don’t forget the new game is directed for mass appeal, not for accuracy or realism so why would they leave one of the more complex or challenging aspects of the other game in the next installment
I have not seen anything to even hint it might be in there so I for one doubt its in

Maybe not... if you think about SH4 your right. But SH3?
I've played 100% real and 1944+ was big problem to attack a convoy and be survive. But maybe developer want to earn more money to sell add-on with last year? We will see in March.

yes, but the new game is oriented to 3d interaction with the crew and the role of captain. also they have special skills ( gunner, weapons officer ,torpedo officer).
i won´t be surprised if there isn´t any manual targeting and use the crew members

Except the captain was a big part of generating the solution in real life. He didn't just tell his crew "figure it out" and go back to bed.

I would have to say, despite my trying to be hopeful and have an open mind for when the game comes out, if it does not have manual targeting, it would be a deal breaker for me.
For me, without manual targeting, how could this game be fun?

Come on! You'll have laser guided DG sights, a little red, green or yellow triangle in your periscope reticle. What more could you want.:har:

You even have a marking on the ships weakest part to break it's keel, so you know where to aim during manual targeting :O:
The data targeting computer have been in since SH3 at least....theres no reason for them to take it out.

Unless the reason is that the game is marketed to a different customer base than SH3.
We have a little posse of gamers at work. I am the only one who has the slightest interest in Subsims. The closest that group gets is flight sims.
I think it is time we admit that as hardcore submarine simulator players, we are in a very small minority when it comes to game customer bases. :yep:
The tiny sliver around the dark cloud might be that if Ubi can get more people interested in arcade type sub games, perhaps some of them would become more interested in the more realistic sub simulators and that would grow our customer base.
Trying to be optimistic here..... but not doing a very good job. :nope:

I'm sure it comes down to some such decision:
Developer meeting with Project Manager over a beer:
Dev: "We have to add 120 hours to timeline/developement/testing to retain manual TCD option for players. Regression testing to make sure it doesn't break something else, etc."
Project Manger: "We better go ahead and do it. Otherwise we'll lose the heart and soul of the game, not to mention we'll all be marked men by nearly every user at subsim.com"
Dev: "We'll get right on it."
Developer meeting with Project Manager over a beer: (at 100% realism)
Dev:We don`t include manual tdc for player character, just because normal casual guy, don`t like his brain tired when he wish just to play a game for relax.Besides... it will work with new model interracttion crew and tdc is job for WO.
Project Manager: Agreed! I wanted talk with you about this earlier, but i see that issue is already solve,we must focus on new market needs.
Dev: But what about sumbsim community? They will be very disappointed.
Project Manager: Who cares?

I think we all know that. The thing is that we still grow as a community, and that we continue to buy our subsims, develop mods, and, more importantly, fight for our subsims. That, IMO, makes us mighty. :DL

Project Manger: "Too much time and no money in the budget for this game and subsim users are not our target now, we have new type of players, forget TDC and use the weapons officer script "
Dev: "We'll get right on it."

Which, if true, indicates the UBI marketing is utterly clueless and needs to be tarred, feathered and run out of the company on a post.
Screenshots of things like this are exactly what is needed to counter much at least some of the negative vives about the game.
But still no shots of the TDC in the article. I mean, do you think you could sell a flight simulator without and screenshots of the flight deck.
Gotta say though, I'm still skeptical that it's really there.
