New in game footage:

Edit: The SH V footage comes after Assasins Creed 2 (~5 mins)

Edit2: KapitanLeutnant put it on youtube (Thank you!):

It's fascinating to finally see that you can walk around the dock in first person, but too little too late for this consumer.

Another misleading thread :nope:In what way? This is new footage as far as I can see.

edit: Just watched it all. The in-boat stuff doesn't look good. There are missing animations and clipping everywhere. The sonar-guy went from sitting to standing with no animation, and when standing he was clipping through the chair that he had been sat on before. This is really lazy work.

edit 2: Also note how the sonar guy is performing an animationg of turning the wheel of the hydrohpone, despite being sat quite far away from it. I also like how the commander was talking to the damn cook while the boat was being pinged. Like he doesn't have anything better to do.

I posted that after sitting through 5 minutes of assasins creed :-? oops...

Your right about the 'snap to standing animations'.

On the other hand assasins creed looks pretty good is it going to have osp as well?

He says that Silent Hunter has a large fan community and that he knows that he has to watch what he says. ... A little late for that, isn't it? :nope:

Nah, at least some gameplay footage and some insight in crew management (soup as well! :shifty:) and the attack periscope. Could be fun ... once they patch the shackles out of course.

walking around the sub:down: you will do that when you load the game. for the first time.

Then you spend the rest of the time staring at a nav map waiting for a contact when you find one your looking through a periscope that is how people play the game.

Yeah that looks great, I can't wait... 29 days to go!

You know, people banged on about Das Boot so much, the devs have given you Das Boot the game. The scene in the sub pen shows that. I like the idea of promoting your crew by walking up to them, in SH4, they were just blobs to me, now I can get a connection with them.

Can't wait!

No dynamic shadows at people in submarine base. OK. I can live with that.
But what about TDC ??? This is manual targeting???
:o

It is the worst SH5 movie I have seen. I dont understand - this movie was to encourage or discourage people from buying this game? The whole UBI marketing department should be fired.
:nope:

Soundman level 2 ?
Please, tell me that it means "obermatrose" - german marine second degree...

Only two good info from game: there are dynamic shadows on deck gun and good bouncing of ships.

+1 Will I be called a sell out and ostracized from subsim if I do end up buying this ?
With all the nay saying I've been doing lately, I feel dirty, for the thought of getting it, but on the other hand...it does look to have potential after a few years of modding.

Having been in VIIC/41 I can tell you, you are definitely right. However, noticed the problem already when the very first trailer came, so really not surprised. Thought they'll fix that, but... :shifty:

Yes i dont understand this either. I can hardly imagine that the casual player would have a hard time understanding dials and guages. However i feel that this is one of the things that gets modded first after release.

I've been intrigued by SHV since it was announced, and the vid only fuels that. Yes, the soundman alignment is a slip-up, but is there any indication how old the video is? Perhaps this is something that has been addressed since it was originally taken.

On the plus side, ship mechanics look impressive, with the destroyer and corvette bobbing believably in the swell. Hopefully this applies to one's sub as well. Shadows look good. Moving around the sub pen to handle port business looks very interesting too.

On the down side, I find the interface a bit strange. The clean "HUD" seems nice, since it's out of the way, but the periscope screen is quite bland. Also, the FPS crosshair is distracting and would seem to be unnecessary, since we're not running around port with a Luger looking to plug enemy soldiers. (Right?) But these things are probably easily modded, so they may not be much concern in the long run.

Now if we could just do something about that OSP..... :arrgh!:

ok seen it great stuff but ubi made the movie way to short. I would like a gameplay movie with one of the devs showing the good stuff such as.

* are there other u-boats in the pens/harbour or are we yet agian the only u-boat in base.
* are we the only boat in the game that doesnt have crew walking/ standing on the deck when leaving/ entering port
* Hardcore tdc
* much more intereur footage , maybe like a tour in das boot from back to front.
* underwater footage
* biggest storm footage
* submerge footage from inside the control room (maybe crash-dive)
* Maybe some AI u-boat footage
* more crew voices (allthough they seem much more improved)
* how does the player get from the pens onto the u-boat.
* what happens when the player stands next to the deckgun for example , can you see yourself in external view.
Feel free to add stuff you would like to see.

Hmm... I wonder if more stuff can be modded to the base. Let's assume there is only the pen atm. I hope it would be possible for modders to add their own 3D interiors and make bar for example. Also, transferring people and making custom dialogue for them would be nice, so you could go to some other Kaleu sitting in the bar and have a chat with him like, for example, SH3Cmdr does, but now in 3D. Would be nice. :yep:

Well, I got to watch it by switching to Firefox.

Animated the water is even worse. Looks good, but also looks like a force 6 gale is blowing through the bunker.

At 5:30 there is a shot of two guys in front of the monitor, and here it looks like the periscope view is much bigger.

I noticed that the periscope-view map is scaleable. I assume it can be scaled right out of existence.

And just like the screenshot I see it confirmed that the Crew Designations wander from German to English and back again. Sound Guy, Funker, Gunner.

Still, overall it looks very good.

One of the first things they should fix is, that the Ships crash into each other like in the Video. In the Scene where the Torpedo is fired, it looks like the AI is a bit messed up.

I also don't like it that the Cook adresses the Kaleun with "Hallo, großer Junge" (Hello, Big Boy). Well, maybe I missed the part of the Crew Bios where the Kaleun and the Cook are described as the best of friends. Normally, you would only greet a good friend "Hello, Big Boy" over here.

I know exactly what you mean. German is my native language but I also read the text twice.

So we have the Torpedoman who likes to stick his fist into things, a cook who talks like a hooker and a Bosun who'd rather be a Lumberjack.... err... Poet like his great Grandfather Heinrich Heine (who never had Children, btw.)

Either this is a WW2-Remake of "Queer as Folk" or it's a case of WUI (writing under influence).

Well, besides all of the other stuff mentioned in this thread, did anyone notice that he was sitting at periscope depth, taking his sweet time to line up a shot on one of two DD's that were a cable length away and pinging him!!!??? I sure the hell hope that was on the lowest difficulty setting possible.

Pinging means hide, run if you can silently, however you do it, get away now! It does NOT and should NEVER mean pop up and have a peek for a shot!

That’s about the breadth of my observation of this otherwise fairly innocuous video, nothing new to see, no new opinions to be formed. It’s nice to see the nuts and bolts brigade arguing about angles of lighting or the size of the rivets or the correct shade of grey use on the hull ….etc

But for the rest of us there's little or nothing to excite any one with even the slightest interest in game-play, realistic portrayal of the period or historical accuracy - though admittedly lots to satisfy the more visually inclined

And - As usual - no public mention - or discussion of the DRM at least not in connection with the game- the single thing that’s liable to make or break this game as a commercial success. And as usual our Johnny on the spot, Mr. Microphone himself, despite his boyish charm and copious application of hair gel, he fails to mention it.

Does he ever ask any useful questions? Perhaps he's so generic the publishers wouldn’t want to trouble his pretty head with an idea or concept larger than his microphone.

RPG fans will love it, those with reasonably stable internet will probably be able to play it..... most of the time - As for those who've followed the series since the first, or those of us with a real interest in things submerged and Naval as usual it’s ‘Up Yo_ r's’ …..Perhaps I’m a little hasty lets just say - we'll have to wait and see.

One thing that always amazes me, Ubisoft are absolutely aware of SubSim and its members therein -

So why is it the one single thing that's missing, the big fat, steaming, sweating Elephant in the room here…..Why is it that not one person from SubSim has ever been given an opportunity to pose any questions, or make any comment on any of these videos - and all this despite SubSim being the single largest group of potential customers

It’s astounding

Hello Im New Here. However im not new to the series,
been playing the game since the 2nd, Im glad to see that SH series is still alive to see that UBI is actually trying to keep it going. I do understand the reasoning for giving a game a more RPG style, so it will be more acceptable to a general puplic who never even had a thought before of a submarine game before. But im afraid it is going to kill the series, Just like it seems to have happened with IL2 series and its not even on PC anymore.
On a sidenote i think that water looks a bit too fake i live right by the water and it don't behave such way. In the game the water seems a bit too light like it is not even being pulled by gravity.
PS; i hate this tought with this DRM idea, it seem that UBI is trying to do a good thing (slow Piracy:arrgh!:) in a realy bad way (Killing the ganre so there is nothing left to pirate :damn:). Why cant they have lets say 12 hours of Accumilated gameplay with this DRM BS, and then the dame is fully activated and no more need to stay online 24/7 think that many will do that, and get the game, and it still prevents Piracy. and this savegame with UBI will not be needed, on averege on terabite server costs 150 K USD, how many will they need if you have 10 mil people saving 2 savegames?

IL-2 as not died. Birds of Prey is not the true successor of IL-2. The original team is working on Storm of War shich WILL blow your mind :yeah:. Due next year I think.

Ubi will use OSP for all games, SH5 was just unlucky enough to be caught by it. For Ubi the stakes are much higher than this niche game. It's possible that they might be willing to sacrifice it just to see how much OSP will affect sales. That thought makes you wanna give a beer to the devs which have no blame in this :nope:

But if we stand firm, with our wallets tightly shut, they will reach the right conclusion.

UBI TV is located in the Ubi offices. They got all the access to the team/game engine and people to get permissions to record these.

Then what do they do, show us 3 minutes of cheesy gameplay, with lots of bugs apparent. It's incredible how unprofessional these guys are, I mean I have modded for other sims and did showcases to those, and never tried to show the shortcomings of the engine. It's like they especially show this stuff. :stare:

I've criticized you in the past for the way I think you say some things, but in this case I'll stand with you. Attacks on the DRM won't stop, because we believe it's wrong, but people don't need to attack you every time you speak up.

Except for that one item, I'm excited about the game too. I'm hopeful about the modability, which if true means that most of the complaints are about things which will be easy to change. My biggest worry is about problems in former versions that never got fixed, and can't be fixed by modders.

I think it's time to leave Trenken alone - at least until he runs me down again.:D

I appreciate that Steve, but just as those can express their hatred towards DRM, I guess I can express why I dont mind it. Does that make me a bad guy? I dont think it does, but since they have a different opinion on it, im the bad guy. Its not my fault that I dont have a problem with it.

At this point the game is close to being released, I'm exicted for it, I do feel bad for those that wont be able to play it, but what can I do about that? Nothing. So I come here to talk about my excitement for the game, and every time I say something positive, or see any thread with any positivity to it, someone comes it complaining about DRM, and it spirals out of control.

Im sure there's mods on this site. At some point they need to just reel this in and restore order around here. Believe me, if they dont come into every thread posting crap about DRM, I wont go into theirs and defend it. Thats the best thing but its not happening right now.

At this point everyone has made mistakes, myself included, things get out of hand in the heat of the moment, but I think enough time has passed with this thing that now we just have to get this board back to the way it used to be. Discipline people if need be. If ive done something wrong, slap a ban on me and ill take it. Anything to get this place better than its been. DRM is one issue of many, it shouldnt be flooding the entire board.

I do agree that going crazy about removing DRM will not help the problem, since UBI will most likely not remove it at the release.

That is why i am not even going to bother to complain about it, instead my suggestion is that it can have a timed limit, like have a 12 hours of accumulated game-play being connected to UBI DRM and after the 12 hour period a player can be off the hook, and is able to play in offline mod.:salute:

I think, that such approach will make the community happier and will not require a huge amount of programming.

Just a suggestion though, I'm still going to get the game with DRM or not. I have good Internet and Downtime will not kill me. :yeah:

We are three weeks away from announced date of release. So far, the website and the Ubi TV footage have only increased the doubts about SHV.

If in reality it turns out that the game has been adapted to fit two completely different markets (Kiddie bang bang and serious subsimmers) this by itself could be a disaster. Add DRM to the mix and it could be a catastrophe.

I worry about the periscope view, did I hear the American ahooga klaxon as the diving signal?
I can't imagine the devs doing this, but they also have to take orders from the suits who wouldn't know a submarine from a river boat.

So far, all indications are that the Ubi team is in great dissaray. This doesn't bode well for the game.

Of course, if they insist on DRMifying the game, who cares as we all are going to take refuge in SH3 or SH4 for the fans of the ahooga klaxon.

Couldn't agree more. I want a simulation, not an RPG. Still no footage of a TDC, which is pretty indicative that it isn't there since so many folks actually want to see it. That periscope screen is awful.

The graphics are nice, but good graphics do not replace gameplay. Heck, I still play doom with the doomsday engine because the gameplay is good.

With the fact that UBI has classified the game as action/adventure and with everything we have seen in screenshots and interviews I can only conclue this is a departure from the SH series and it is going in a new direction, away from true simulation.

No doubt that will continue to appeal to some here, and all well and good for you.

For me, I'm not interested until it has been modded up to at least the GWX/OLC gui level. By then it will probably be DRM free and cost about $9.99

Till then I'll stick with SH III.

DRM can't be too big of a problem unless you have a bad connection. My internet connection isn't great but I don't think it will be that big of a problem. Before you make an opinion, think about if it will really affect you.

The way I see the possible outcomes of the DRM crap is(in order from best to worst):
1.Ubisoft rushes to rid the game of DRM before March due to all the hatred on this forum.:D
2.They can't take out DRM in time but don't want to delay the release so they make a patch in the near future.:DL
3.Ubisoft can't take out DRM before the deadline so they delay the release.:)
4. They don't adress the problem at all.:nope:

Early screenshots don't tell much, they're meant to look cinematic not realistic.

I don't think they are going to show full realism for fear of scaring people off. Did they show full manual TDC for SH3 before release? I don't remember. I'm sure it's in there. Anyways if this game has the RPG element in it, or it kind of sucks in any other way, im pretty sure this is a half-fabrika compared to the SH5 in the future when the modders have done something with it. Just like SH3 became 10 times more realistic and better after GWX came around. (Thanks GWX Crew!)

But still, walking around the sub is pretty neat. :D
