its so sad to read the depth charging that U-5 is getting. the negativity is somewhat draining to read. i wonder how those SH5 Devs feel about it, its their baby.

i have the problem first of all that my machine is not powerful enough to play sh5, so thats a bummer to begin with:yawn: because i adore SH3+GWX et al...
it is obviously stiring up some heated thoughts and opinions, about where the game should go and how to access it before we even get to play it.

but would it not be absolutley jaw dropping if U-5 was amazing, the effects, the campaign level, the single level, crew managment etc etc - all of it. ok-ok, it ends in '43, but how many of us seriously get to the end - you will get flattened by the Allies: May 1943:dead:

can you imagine the arctic convoys in bad weather, the snow and ice the mountainous seas. i mean, i have read alot of the history and still do, seems like a new book or dvd trots out now and again with new history to enjoy and appreciate at my own leasure.
( where else, in todays games, do we get the chance to play 'the enemy.' can you imagine a new Call of Duty from the German perspective..( it was one of the reasons why i started to play SH3..how innovative was that - we get to play the Germans - WOW!, THEY LOST!!). it always seems to be the americans fighting 'the enemy.')

so i am wondering what everybody wants: a repeat of SH3 or something with a new perspective a different challenge.

i just wanted to see the faces of young men, as i have said, pale, lean boys going off to fight what became a hopeless cause - then, i would have had some excitement about this. i didnt want to see those prison bullies square-jawing the camera: but so it is.

so its a shame U-5 is getting flatened before it leaves port. remember U-96 (Das Boot)....
there is an irony here somewhere. but at the moment it is lost to me, yet i feel it will become apparent as the months roll into years.

i am trying to make sense of my own thoughts here - maybe not too clearly though. after all it is only a game, but i feel there is an undercurrent moving along slowly beneath gaming in general.

it's like that old saying about TV: 'if you dont like whats on telly, you can always turn it off.' so there is a choice, it may just be a difficult one.

i whish U-5 all the best and hope it is saved from the worst

hey ho! :)

. remember U-96 (Das Boot) coming home after a very eventful voyage and getting sunk in port and most of her crew get killed by an attack...

Um... well, there's a sailor who strips down to a makeshift hula skirt and fake boobies made from oranges and paints his face and dances for the boys in the bugraum. I mean, if that works for you.

But seriously, if you have truly not seen Das Boot, get off this forum NOW and go watch it. You will not be sorry. :D

Sounds like a strange film.

To get back on topic. No offence flag4 but nobody's holding a gun to your head to read others opinions that don't agree with your's.

Usally the title gives the thread away as to topic.

Nope, just another attempted play on "great movie spoilers" of the 20th century.

If you've let what you've read sink in it's about what we DON'T want for the game.

because we then refer to it as a "phisical entity" and can drop depth charges on it. But i agree with you, we should call it U-571 :rotfl2:

it's ubisoft's 5th silent hunter title - thought it had a nice sardonic feel to it, considering the end of most u-boats and the slating silent hunter 5 is getting.

Hee. One of my favorite memories of my dad is when he was in a convalescent home recovering from a stroke - my mom and sister and I went to see "Titanic" one weekend and then drove over to visit him afterwards. When he asked what we'd been up to I told him we'd been to see the movie "Titanic" and he looked at me with a twinkle in his eye and said, "Really? How does it end?"

If Titanic was a UBISoft game it would end just as they sight the iceberg.

Thanks. He passed in 1998. He was 80 years old and due to some chronic health problems had been unable to get up and around for a couple years or more. He was always an active man and I know how much he hated being confined - but he never lost his sense of humor. :DL

I do feel for the devs as it's the publisher that decides what type of DRM (if any) is used in a product. But it's the Publishers Draconian DRM thats stopping me buying this on release nothing else. I can even live, grudgingly with the 1943 termination and the single U-Boat type.

Even if SH5 was the bees knees in subsims with Manual targeting, working heads (that really flush), Wolfpacks and accurate to the nth degree I still would not buy it with it's present DRM.

I refuse to pay for a game that I cannot use when I want too, that is dependant on a remote security system that may or may not deem me worthy of playing and that I have to stay connected to teh internets during play.

So I will vote with my wallet and wait to see if the DRM is removed in future and in truth will probably wait a few years on the Gold Edition.

So if the devs are going without food etc, blame Ubisoft. I dont think its fair to guilt trip a customer into buying a product with this type of DRM just to keep this particular franchise alive. It sends the wrong message to Ubisoft who will see the sales as an acceptance of their DRM policy and is to me at least a tad shortsighted.

Just my 2p worth

Cheers

Garion
