View Full Version : "Target ships" near Königsberg...

When starting a patrol from Königsberg in August 1939, you are "ordered" to sink some designated target ships. I did so, all six. Only thing is that when I got back I had received over 500 negative renown for sinking "neutral" ships. Is this really how it should be? Seems funny that the target ships are clearly marked on the map and that the order is given in the first place if this is the case. :hmmm:

yep... I found that out the hard way also.:rotfl2:

my poor little duck... sinking targets... to be greeted by guns when back at base.

Ja, I started two brief careers with a first patrol out of Konigsberg. Notice if you will that orders do not just refer to going after "target" ships but also a "2 ship convoy."

The only 2 ship convoy I ever found in that damn bay was flying German flags.

:hmmm:

:shifty:

Made me feel bad sinking them, but orders is orders... altho the boys back at Pillau didn't seem to feel that way!

Since at that time, the game considers any foreign flag as neutrauls. One can sink them, and them edit the file to have posite renown insted the negative one. As a well training exercice!:D

IIRC GWX credits you with extra renown if you start in the 7th Flotilla so the renown you 'lose' for sinking the neutrals puts you back at the same value as starting in other flotillas.

Can someone confirm (or tell me I'm wrong!)?

Hmm.. I don't know what the starting value is for other flotillas but IIRC when I started in the 7th at Konigsberg, I started out with 2000 in renown. That would include whatever extra I may have gotten for going through the Naval Academy thingamajiggies.

I think I lost ~500 of that after my day of wanton destruction in the bay.

Yes, you start with 2000 renown. If you sink the six target ships and the two "convoy" ships, the negative renown is upwards to 600 though (if not more...don't remember exactly).

Yeah you do start with extra renown
You can blame me for the target ships
:rotfl2:

Dont recall it saying you are ordered to sink them tho
And the 2 ship convoy should be used for simulated attacks - as they did in RL tho with a Ge convoy not a enemy one
The only 2 ship convoy in that lil water basin is British
Looking at it now in mission ed

Am planning a lil update to the schlues xtra units mod real soon - will up the renoun in the 7th a lil more

Yes, it actually says "ordered to", but I guess that should be taken as seriously as being ordered to patrol this or that grid... ;)

Your supposed to press Esc and teleport back.

In August 38 every ship in the SH3 world is categorised as a netral therefore firing on one means every neutral will consider you as an adversary for the followinf 24 hours.

What's really funny is that in all the excitement of finishing a patrol without dying in the process I kinda forgot about the whole Esc-Exit Patrol-Return to Base thing.

So I very conscientiously (after the German Navy stopped trying to kill me) took my boat all the way back through the harbor and maneuvered her very carefully back into the spot she started out in.

And sat there. And waited. Because I forgot that's not how you actually "Return to Base" in terms of the game acknowledging the end of a patrol.

Tick tock, tick tock. Hey, game, I'm back at base. Patrol over, boat docked, shouldn't something be happening? Tick tock, tick tock. Hello, I'm ready to exit, jeez, what's taking so long...

:hmmm:

*clicks Esc*

If your patrol had lasted 4 days you would have received a message instructing yiu to return.

I always try to finish my designated patrols and return all the way to port, it just feels "right". :woot:
